Adventure Vesta 4.0

When your objective consists of a remote summit miles from the nearest aid station, then you can rely on the Ultimate Direction Adventure Vesta 4.0 to get you there and back with everything you need to adapt to the unexpected. Ultimate Direction took what worked with its original Adventure Vesta—front water bottle pocket, burrito pocket, and a large storage area in the back for additional layers and safety gear—and added its Comfort Cinch system to give the vest a secure, comfortable fit that can be adjusted on-the-fly while you're running or resting. In addition to the vest's adjustable fit system and myriad pockets, the Adventure Vesta also includes a rear bungee strap and trekking pole loops to keep your hands free when you're scrambling up a steep ridge en route to your objective.

Best Pack I?ve Tried So Far

Familiarity:
I've used it several times
Size Bought:
M/L
Height:
5' 8"
Weight:
140

I originally ordered a small after reviewing the sizing chart. I had to return it for the M/L. I tested out numerous other running packs and vests before finding this one. It is comfortable, light weight, nice looking, adorned with a multitude of pockets, and can hold a lot or a little gear equally comfortably. I really like the water in the front. Yes, it?s a little difficult to smash into the pocket, but it is convenient for shorter outings to not have to deal with a whole reservoir and hose and still be able to get a quick drink with the bottle in place. I also like that this vest has a pocket large enough for my phone on the front. It securely holds it but allows easy access. You can tell a lot of thought has gone into every detail of this vest. From the custom clip that holds the bungee cord to the pack itself on the back, to the little sleeve for the emergency whistle. (My emergency whistle did not work when I got the vest, so I ended up putting a different one on there?not a deal breaker for me.) My only concern is how well the vest will hold up. I?ve done quite a few miles with it so far, but worry that the same material that makes it so featherlight will also make it easy to damage. Time will tell. But I?m overall very excited about this vest and would recommend trying it out for all of your adventures!

Best product I have ever owned

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer
Size Bought:
XS/S
Height:
5' 5"
Weight:
130

This pack is the best-designed, optimized piece of gear I've ever had in my life. I have used this pack for all sorts of adventures: trail running, mountain scrambling, free-soloing, mountain biking, the list goes on. This pack has an incredibly effective fit adjustment system with the sternum straps and the rear harness adjustment. I like the semi-elastic sternum straps for allowing deep, full breaths - I never ever fell restricted by it. There are an OBSCENELY wonderful amount of pockets. It is overwhelming and great. There are zippered pockets galore, non-zippered stuff pockets, a water bottle burrito pocket, long/skinny energy gel pockets, a phone pocket, a key attachment pocket, a stuff-your-rain-layer pocket, a hydration bladder pocket. It has a whistle (love!). And minimalist, quick, and secure trekking pole attachments. One of my favorite features is the additional fastening points on the side of the packet to better secure your load while running. The pack is also decently waterproof (thanks nylon!). I've been soaked while wearing this pack and the contents stayed dry. I cannot recommend this pack enough, home run UD!

Fantastic

Familiarity:

I purchased this pack last month to start using when trail running and hiking, and I love it. I compared it against a lot of other options, and chose this one because it had the best reviews (by women on various running sites) for fit and comfort especially across the chest area. It has a ton of different pockets which are handy for keys, phone, snacks, tissues etc. It's also super-light which feels comfortable on hot days, but keep in mind the main hydration bladder compartment is not insulated and only has a thin mesh layer separating the bladder from your back (bladder not included). The only slightly disappointing thing is that the body bottle (included) is a little hard to get back in its sleeve on the chest strap once you're wearing the vest, but it just takes a little bit of jiggling to fix that. Not a show stopper for me at least.
