Let's not forget that as mountain bikers, we're often hurtling downhill like a two-wheeled wrecking ball, flying over jarring roots and rocks on a skinny strip of dirt. As disastrous as this ordeal sounds for non-riders, the sensation of speed is just part of the fun. For these blistering downhill runs and technical descents where falling isn't pretty, it pays to be wearing the bomber durability and longer coverage of the Troy Lee Designs Men's Sprint Short.

This gravity short falls beneath the knees with its relaxed cut, allowing you to properly suit up with pads before plunging downhill. Rugged 600D polyester withstands the rigors of scrapes and spills on the trail without ripping or fraying prematurely. Strategic mesh vents prevent overheating, especially when you're riding in the midst of summer heatwaves. And because it's a bit baggier, the Sprint's adjustable waist tabs prevent it from slipping or sagging as you ride.

Probably great for DH, not so much Trail

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: 32
    • Height: 5'8"
    • Weight: 155lbs

I bought these looking for a more durable pair of trail shorts, and they certainly felt plenty burly, with a good amount of venting considering. The right leg pocket fit my Nexus 5X great. The problem is they're just not cut for any decent amount of pedaling. The crotch hangs low when the short is at your natural waist and causes the legs to bind up pedaling - I had to twice stop on the climb to pull them up and cinch down the waist. I also noticed the leg openings don't slide easily over my knee guards, and rubbed the back of my knee when the guards were pushed down. I think part of the problem to the range of motion issues was that while many parts of the shell are stretchy, the inner mesh liner is not. I was surprised at how poorly they fit me considering I have 2 pairs of 32 TLD Ruckus shorts that fit and pedal great.

    Great DH Shorts

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 36
    • Height: 6'3"
    • Weight: 220lbs

I Really dig these shorts so far. They make alot of noise for pedaling but thats fine. My only complaint like other people, is the pockets are absolutely terrible. If you have multiple keys on one keychain they won't fit in the left pocket cause it's very shallow. The right pocket is barely big enough to hold my phone, which is fine but the location of is kind of annoying when pedaling since I'm almost sitting on my phone.

Awesome Shorts for all Around MTB

The Troy Lee Designs Sprint shorts are sweet. They are a good mid weight layer, but also have mesh and stretch panels so they do great on the climbs. These are made to be durable and because of the heavy-duty design, I do not wear them on crazy hot days. They vent great and work for everything else. These shorts fit true to size and have adjustable hip straps.

    Bike park shorts

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 32
    • Height: 5'9"
    • Weight: 170lbs

These are great for lift service riding, they are not too great at up hill stuff cause they are a bit tight and longer than their other pairs. Very durable and they let plenty of air in so you're not burning up.

    Breathable and durable

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 32
    • Height: 5'10"

These are a nice fit between the moto shorts and the ruckus shorts. They have a little stretch to them and breath better than the moto shorts. Also a little more durable especially in the butt than the ruckus shorts.
