    You'll forget you're wearing it.

You'd consider yourself a minimalist when it comes to spending time on the trails, and it's taken more than a few good crashes and several lasting scars to convince you that wearing padding when you ride could be in your best interests. Troy Lee Designs created the Speed Knee Sleeve for people like you.

Lightweight, breathable, and flexible, the sleeve provides 4mm of D3O foam cushioning to shield your knees and shins without inhibiting your ability to spin the pedals quickly. The entire sleeve is constructed free of seaming to eliminate the likelihood of chafing or irritation, and it features reflective logos to keep you visible in case you have to ride a few miles on the roads to get to the trailhead. The abrasion-resistant cover will save you from scrapes and scratches against trail furniture, while the silicone gripper band keeps the whole piece in place so you can focus on your ride.

    Perfect for trail riding!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These knee pads are flexible, durable, they stay in place, and provide a bit of compression. These are great if you're looking for a low profile knee pad thats easy and comfy to pedal in.

    So close.

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I bought these knee pads but had to return them because the rubber grip that holds them on above my knee was slightly irritating against my skin. Otherwise, they seem like an awesome, lightweight knee pad. The sock-like material is super comfortable to slip on and they're minimalist enough to be able to pedal easily.

    Not Just For biking

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I picked up this item for skiing. During long days in the deep snow my knees get cold and stiff. I picked up this pad to protect my knees while skiing through trees and to keep my joints warm. I am 5'5" 150 lbs on a good day and this sleeve fits me perfectly. The padding is pretty minimal so it wont protect against strong direct strikes like other pads but its great for everything else. What drew me to this sleeve over other ones I tried was that this felt like the least intrusive one of the bunch. It has enough warmth and protection without limiting my movement at all. I will update my review after about a season of use to report the wear.

The other reviews on this page are great and they really helped me decide on this item over others so check out the other reviews as well.

An Armored Sweater for Your Knees

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Construction of sleeve is somewhere between a heavy duty stretchy sock and a sweater with the padding in a pocket on the outside of the sleeve. Packs flat.

The thickness of the sleeve itself would provide more abrasion resistance than just some lycra that other guards in this category use. Probably breathes better than the neoprene competitors, but this thing soaks up the sweat, particularly at the back of the knee where it can bunch a little.

Stayed in place pedaling even on longish climb, but my recommendation is to slide the pad down to your ankle in this situation. You can pull up the pads in place with one hand.

For comparison, the fit is better than the Alpinestars Paragon for a skinnier leg/knee. Paragon might provide more protection with a thicker pre-shaped pad, but I will be more likely to actually wear these because they seem to fit so well.

Padding/Armor is flat w/a notch cutout each side to aid in flexing so it could be more comfortable w/pre-curved kneed area, but since the weird hardens-on-impact foam is quite flexible it isn't a very big deal.

    Great light weight knee pad!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

The first sentence of the description is spot on! I rode for years without knee pads and as my riding got more progressive so did my wounds when it went wrong. I ride everywhere, on every kind of terrain, hot or cold. So when I finally decided to get some knee pads I didn't want anything bulky, interfered with my pedaling, had to breathe well in the hot weather, but provided me some protection. I've owned them for a little over a month now and I've used them on about 15 different rides ranging from XC, to good ole all mountain riding, to some gnarly downhill and they have done everything I was looking for a knee pad to do for me. They're light weight so they stay in place all day and do not to interfere with my pedaling, they breath well as not to be ridiculously hot, and best of all they protect you knee in the event of an unfortunate dismount. If you're looking for a good knee pad to wear wherever you ride, this is your pad!

For sizing reference since it wasn't an option in the pull-down menu of the review, I'm 6'4" 205lbs and I got the XL/XXL

I will state that I did not but these knee pads from backcountry as because of the aforementioned reasons I wanted to try on several different items and put them through the paces before deciding on a product. However, I purchase a ridiculous amount of product from backcountry and I value the reviews of those who use the gear when considering purchasing a product so here's my two cents on these knee pads.

    Sweet Lightweight Pad

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is a great pad if you want some extra protection while spending hours in the saddle. The padding is very minimal but gives great protection while trail riding. These are super comfortable and a great choice for a lightweight pad.

    Great pedaling knee pad!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: M/L
    • Height: 6'1"
    • Weight: 185lbs

If you like the climb as much as the descent, then this knee pad fits the bill. I find my pedaling to be unhindered by these pads, without any discomfort. I’ve had no problems keeping them in place. The gripper band works flawlessly. Both the face fabric on the knee, as well as the sleeve material, have held up well. My only complaint, and the reason for the 4 stars, is that there could be more padding extending from the shin to the side. I’ve washed out in a turn once with these on, and the only place that got scratched up were on the side of my calves.
