excellent as a daily commute

I've put it through the wringer

Design of the top to front is five (5) total storage location. - Top is the main with a laptop compartment inside. This is nicely designed as the back support is a bit stiff preventing bend to the laptop or other items. - Front top has an easy accessible pouch for pencils and keys. - The next is a secret opening by velcro and has also expandable space by dropping the side zippers. This compartment is great for hiding items as it is not as noticeable by design. - The front bottom compartment hold a set up inside with netted pouches. - The last pocket is the front side accessible by pulling the zipper. There is also a secret side pocket on the side. This can probably fit a small wallet. Pro: This bag feels very durable as it is made from carduro Cons: - The front of the bag can get easily stained. Requires wiping every once in a while to keep the bag clean - Bag is not great to run with on warm days. The material causes chafing around the neck area as it hugs around it. Might be better after the straps is worn in a bit. - The secret opening velcro gets worn easily. Will not be surprised after prolong use that it will be noticeable.

It really grew on me

I've put it through the wringer

I have to say that I was skeptical after the first couple of rides. However, as time went on it really grew on me and now I couldn't be happier. I've found that the size is really perfect for me. I use it for holding some basic bike gear (lock, etc), laptop, coffee thermos, and an extra pair of shoes. Everything fits, but the shoes make it a little tight. I've not been in a downpour yet, but the rain I've been in was no problem. The only flaw is the location of the thermos holder and the fact that the holder cannot tighten. After a couple of rides I feel that it is fully broken in and is quite comfortable for my daily ride.

Portland Rain Proof and it looks rad!

I've put it through the wringer

My husband has this bag and we both love it! I would steal it from him if it fit my frame better. He's a big guy, 6'5" and 215lbs, this bag is a great fit for him and it's perfect for lugging a laptop to the office on a bike. The pocket for helmet storage is awesome, you can tell the company really understands the life of urban commuters. The padded system on the back panel is extremely comfortable, even in the warm summer months, the panels have been designed to vent your body heat. This backpack is bomb-proof, it's the swiss-army knife of backpacks and it's definitely up to the challenge that the rain in the PNW provides. I freaking love this bag! The only note that I'll make is :: If you're a petite human like myself (sub 5'3"), you may want to try out the Robin instead of this one.

My favorite backpack to date.

I've put it through the wringer

My line of work generally has me carrying two laptops everyday. This bag comfortably fits both, while having lots of pockets for the rest of my gear. It is a very comfortable pack to wear, the two vertical pads along the spine allow for good airflow. As we get a little bit of rain here in Portland, OR the weatherproofing is so valuable so me.

Super practical pack!

I've put it through the wringer

I bought this pack a few months ago and it is, by far, the best laptop backpack I've ever had. The mesh vents to a great job letting air flow through on your back. Lots of compartments that can hold a ton of stuff, in addition to a laptop. It gets the job done and looks sleek doing it!

I doubt it's waterproof

I returned this product before using it

I return the bag because I doubt it's waterproof. I am talking about the zipper. Backcountry says it's waterproof but the Timbuk2 website says it's water resistant. I will be living in a tropical island so heavy rain is expected. Saw a picture where water come inside the bags, it terrifies me. I'll go with a rolltopp

Excellent Laptop Backpack For Commuting

I've used it several times

I purchased this bag specifically for commuting. My commute is not excessively long, and we don't typically get lots of rain. I just figured that a $1500 laptop deserves a good quality bag. This bag does the job superbly, it's got quality construction, water proofing, and attention to detail (such as the small key pouch on the side, and velcro to keep the straps from flapping in the wind). I have also found it to function well just for hauling my gear around when I'm not on my bike. The padding on the back and shoulders breaths VERY well, reducing back sweat. Plenty of storage for all of your junk, boat loads of pouches, and reflective panels make it excellent for my commute. Very happy with product, and of course Competitive Cyclist for quick shipping. I haven't been through rain with it yet, so can't speak to its water proofing, but if I had to guess based on construction, it should perform just fine.
