    Built for the rugged

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: 11.5
    • Height: 6'0"
    • Weight: 200lbs

These shoes are great for people looking for a little extra support out their midweight hiker. They do great with wide feet although I did find that they ran a little large. I usually wear an 11.5 but an 11 would have been perfect. GTX does the job do and keeps your feet dry. Great fall or late spring hiking boot for going up into the alpine.

    Best Boots ever

I bought these about 10 years ago at Kittery Trading Post for a Death Valley hiking trip.

    1. I have wide feet and they felt awesome from moment one. I did not experience any breaking in period. Good to go from the beginning,

    2. They wore extremely well. I oiled and sealed them every year. Finally had the sole separate.

    3. Never had my feet get wet until I dropped pruners on them and put a hole in the side.

    4. There is enough room for thicker socks if I need them.

    5. They could use more defined tread and they are less stable on rocks and wet leaves because of that. It is not enough of an issue for me not to be looking for another pair.

    6. Probably not the best choice for narrow footed hikers. Great for us with duck feet.

    Hiking boots for rainy season

I've been hiking a lot lately, and kept thinking it would be nice to stop worrying about mud in trails, soaked tall grass, and getting my ancles hurt when going down hill.

So I decided to purchase some hiking boots!

First, they didn't require much break in time and were comfy enough to go walking on the first day. Relatively light, not hot, and very sturdy so I feel I can walk on any surface with them.

Where I live we have two main seasons. Dry, and rainy. These are perfect to go hiking during the rainy season. I disagree with some other reviews that state these boots are not water proof. From my first week wearing them almost every day on pretty wet weather, I haven't seen any water pass through them.

I have yet to try wearing these for extended period of times, and see if they will get me blisters or anything. So far doesn't seem like it!

All time favorite still the best

I bought these for my husband, and he loves them! A Timberland lover for years, this pair comes through again with proven Timberland quality! True to size and very comfortable fit.

Awesome shoe for work and play

I bought these shoes for my husband for his birthday. They are a two for one deal because you can use them for work or to play. They are lightweight and they keep your feet dry, especially if your feet tend to sweat. They keep your feet comfortable during long hard workdays. Great for hiking with the good traction on the out sole. You can match them up with just about anything you wear. Excellent choice for a shoe for you or as a gift for someone.

    Awesome boots

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

Even though these are mens, I got them in my size, and they are awesome boots. Comfortable, waterproof, tough. These kept my feet dry even when plunging accidentally knee-deep into the mud, and they're stiff-soled enough to handle some serious hikes. Nice one from Timberland.

    No traction at all

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I think these boots are assembled using cheap materials especially the soles, yet they are not cheap. If you do not want to fall down on icy or slippery conditions, look elsewhere.

Agreed with the no traction assessment. The soles on these boot s wore out faster than any I've ever owned. Busted my ass in snow this winter, and then almost fell off the roof, because of no tread, before I learned my lesson and deep-sixed them.

    Not waterproof.

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

I've worn these for a few years, from New England slushy trails to open cornfields of the Midwest, and while comfortable, they are completely and totally not waterproof.

My feet were soaked after a brief walk through some dew soaked high grass, socks squishing, nasty wet feet in boots kind of feeling.

I don't know if I got a bum pair or that's how these are. Either way I opted for a different brand with my next boots and cannot recommend these in any way.

    7 Years and going strong!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I absolutely love these boots. I have owned them for 7 years and they are just starting to wear out. I have hiked all over new england in them and wear them almost every day in the winter fall and mud season in NH.

    Great boots!

I have owned a half dozen hiking boots and these are by far the best. Purchased them last winter. Overall comfort is amazing. I get excited when I have an opportunity to wear these boots. Very warm for a hiking boot and GTX lining will keep you bone dry. You can wear these in any season.

      Awesome Boots!!

I Love these boots. I have them in the womens version. They are incredible all year long. They are totally water proof and light enough to wear in the summer. I hike every weekend 6 or more miles and walk every night for about 2 miles and these are the only boots that havent given me blisters. My boots have gone through small creeks about 3 1/2 deep and my feet have remained bone dry. I have also worn these hiking in snow. Not a problem. I do recommend wearing summer wool socks. I have a big toe that I broke at the base of my foot 16 yrs ago that aches in some shoes and doesnt bend well and in these boots I have no problems whatsoever. So trust me when I say these boots are awesome they are AWESOME

        Best boots...

Other than my 10 year old boots that are finally wearing out. These boots are the best I've had. Very comfortable, and have tons of grip on dirt and pavement. Great to wear to casual occasions or out on the trail.

          Extra foot room

These boots will only be good to wear in the winter season when 2 pair of socks are needed to be worn. There is enough space in these boots for that.
I do not recommend them for summer wear.

            Fantastic Boot

I have put my pair through the ringer, and they still work great. I used them for winter boots through a heavy winter living on a mountain and no problems. Fit was true to size, and had enough room for my long toes. Would buy again.

              Dry & Light

I've worn these boots all over the country, and I must say that they have held up well. The leather will dry out and begin to show wear around the flex point at the toe, but a little leather treatment does the trick. The sole is a little thin for my taste, this would probably a 5 star review if they were vibram. The foot tends to twist and flex a little too much in boulders and roots, but that's just me. The GTX membrane is greatly welcomed as an accompaniment to the leather bottoms and has held up in many stream crossings. I have high arches and I find that I need to add an insole in order to get the proper support. As for the width, It hugs the foot nicely, and not too tight or loose. Shorter laces would be nice too.

I've had these boots (or an essentially identical older model) for 4 years and only now are they starting to go. They've been great - sturdy & the proofing held up for a long time before I had to put a waterproofer on.
I'm probably happier than I should be about boots that I just found them again. I expect to be getting another pair in 2014.

                  Great Boot!

This boot handled a four day backpacking trip incredibly well. Four days on wet trails and my feet stayed comfortable and dry the entire time. They even handled a four hour slosh in wet spring mud when I returned to my car to find it stuck and had to get it out. Can't comment on the durability of these boots though they fail to show few, if any, signs of normal wear-and-tear after the couple of times they've been used. Great boot!

are these shoes good for girls? my size...

are these shoes good for girls? my size is 8.5 if I buy it should I get a lower size? or it doesn't matter?

                    Hey Fernanda,

Men's shoes and women's shoes are not constructed the same because men and women have different foot shapes. If you can't find a women's specific shoe that you like you can always make a men's shoe work but it isn't going to be ideal. If you need a womens size 8.5 then you would want to go with a mens size 7 or 7.5 but there isn't a direct relation so you would have to choose to either go small or large based on those two choices. Another issue you will face is that men's shoes are wider than women's shoes so you could face some issues with the shoe feeling to large based on that as well.
