Nice 2 person roof tent well made! Attachment??

We just finished week long trip to hot weather in Iowa. Ventilation was quite decent given the steamy weather. Quality tent good materials. Main needed improvement: attachment to the roof bars, tightening 8 bolts in an awkward uncomfortable position as tent seats on the roof takes too much time in todays world, modern smart attachment that comes standard is very much needed!

Perfect for on the go camping

Starting out with the Thule Tepui Explorer Ayer as being my first Rooftop Tent, my first impressions have been very positive. For someone being 6'1 at 210lbs, there is a lot of space for myself and a second person. Overall make and quality of this tent. 5 out of 5. Stong base, good design, the material used for the tent itself is very strong and durable, excellent for all season types. Being my size and weight I can roll around without rocking my vehicle around and you never feel like it is unstable. Comfort and ease of use. Set up is as easy as it gets if you dont mind maneuvering around your set up. I have mine on the Thule low pro truck bed rack, and being my height I am always in a comfortable position for set up and take down, taking it down is sometimes an issue if you dont properly tuck and secure all your zippers and tie downs, but putting on the cover is very straight forward. The telescopic ladder, once you get the hang of it it's fairly simple to set up. Getting in and out of the tent is very easy, and it always feels sturdy going in and out. The bed is probably the only "concern" for anyone, but after sleeping in it for a week with a single roll out bed mat to keep it clean and add a bit of extra padding, ive had excellent sleep. Protection from the elements. Excellent airflow, great screen doors, no bugs are getting in unless you let them in, the actual rain tarp keeps you dry, you might wake up during some heavy rain, but overall it does great through rain storms. I dont think ive had issues with wind as of yet. Try not to set up under trees or risk your tent getting very dirty, and yes some bugs might find a hiding spot around your tent so be mindful when your are taking your tent down. So overall I have had more positive experiences with this tent and I am excited to take it out for more adventures, Thule is definitely a great brand for these types of rooftop style tents.

Overall great tent

Quick to set up, only real complaint is the ladder doesn't seem to want to lock in place easily, takes me multiple tries to get the ladder to stay secured , otherwise no issues

Great Tent

First, understand that this is a small soft roof top tent. It is not your bed at home, your old RV, or your last hotel room. That said, this is a great small soft roof top tent! I've had it for about 3 years and used it on several overland trips of 2-4 nights. Setup is simple and straightforward. My first setup of the season usually takes me about 5 minutes, and my last usually takes me about 3. Take down is about as tedious as taking down a ground tent - but it's not covered with mud and twigs, like my ground tents were. It takes about as long to close it up as it does to open it - around 5-7 minutes. I've left bedding in the tent and closed it. That's not ideal; but it is possible. Pillows would not fit, but a couple of blankets are okay - especially if you don't have the rain fly with you. Your best bet would be to have a box or a duffel bag with your bedding in it and just let it ride in the back seat until you've set up camp. The mattress is pretty good. I put a 1" memory foam topper on and it gives me just enough extra to be really comfortable. I like a firm bed, though. The Ayer "2" would indicate it's a 2-person tent, but I think you'd really need to like the second person. My son and I are both 6' tall. He's about 160 lbs. and I'm about 210. We shared the tent on one trip and, while we had plenty of room to sleep, we did bump into each other every now and then. I usually use it as a 1-person tent and it's plenty spacious for me. The canvas tent body isn't as noisy in the wind as a nylon tent, and I like that. The tent - like any other tent - keeps its occupants pretty warm when it's buttoned up, so a sleeping bag or nice comforter and a wool cap have been comfortable even in temps dipping into the 20s. I live in the high desert/Great Basin region, so condensation hasn't been a problem in my spring/summer/fall camping. I do leave my windows and vents open unless it's really windy, though. The stargazing windows are nice when the rain fly isn't needed, and you can open them all the way and stand up to get dressed, take photos of the sunrise, etc. I like it a lot and am happy to have it. Nice job on the tent.

Wingbar Evo and Tepui Ayer 2 person tent

Assembling and installation were strait forward, but definitely requires two sets of hands to get the bars in the appropriate position. Haven’t had a chance to sleep in the tent, but have tested out opening and closing to see how long it would be if travelling alone. Straight forward and super spacious inside the tent.

Nice Small Roof Top Tent

I bought the Tepui Ayer 2 because I wanted a quality roof top tent that was as small as possible. Most of my trips will be solo and I did not need a lot of room. In addition, I wanted the tent to be as close to the height of my truck cab roof as possible to reduce drag and the resultant loss of fuel mileage. I think most buy this tent for use on a smaller crossover SUV or car, but I mounted mine on a full size F150 pickup. One small negative about the tent was the instructions. Thule has good videos that show you how to assemble the tent, but the written instructions are primarily cartoons and diagrams that are sometimes obtuse and hard to figure out. There is a serious lack of detail in some areas. For example: Should the rain fly support poles be left in their pockets in the tent when folding it up? Nothing in the videos or manual give even a small hint of an answer to this question? The tent is constructed well, has great venting and a very well thought out rain fly system. With the rain fly on, it is also quite dark inside even when lights are nearby. The telescoping ladder is far superior to sliding or folding ladders. It is very sturdy and has large feet to stabilize the ladder in all sorts of ground conditions. The cover is very thick rubbery material that has a very good zipper closure and looks like it will last many years. One other more significant negative is the mattress. It is about 2.5" thick, but it is probably the most uncomfortable mattress I have ever slept on. Anyone who likes a very firm mattress might love it, however. With a more comfortable mattress, perhaps as an upgrade option, I would have rated this tent at 5 stars.

So far, amazing

I've used the Thule Tepui Ayer 2 tent once so far, and it's fantastic. Construction, comfort, size... everything's high quality. Installation onto a car takes a little while, and I wish there was a quicker attachment method -- but otherwise I have no complaints. It's easy to use, super convenient, and makes for a great time.

Happy about it

This tent is exactly what I expected, fits my Subaru and doesn’t add too much mpg nor noise. Easy and quick to open/close. Had a nice road trip across the country sleeping in it every night, I was in a comfy safe and quiet place!

Great tent for a Subaru Outback Wilderness

I spent several months looking at rooftop tents for my new Outback Wilderness and finally settled on this one. While there was another one that I was leaning towards, it was 4 times the cost. I'm glad I made the choice to go with the Thule Tepui Explorer Ayer. It fits perfectly and is as easy to install, setup and takedown as expected. Yes, there is more noise driving at freeway speeds and a few less MPG, but still as quiet as my F-150 and still better MPG than the 150 as well. I'm not sure a hard shell would be any quieter and I haven't found a hard shell as small. I'm really looking forward to using this a lot.
