Why We Like The Thule x Tepui Explorer Autana 4 + Annex

Designed for off-road rigs and dirt roads, the Thule x Tepui Explorer Autana 4 + Annex is the biggest and burliest offering from Thule and Tepui. With a reinforced construction, it effectively handles everything from seemingly endless miles of washboard roads in the desert to steep and rocky forest roads. Tepui took the dimensions of its Kukenam tent and doubled down on the seams with double stitching, then it added heavy-duty hinges and anti-condensation mats with a heavier gauge internal frame for added resiliency to high winds, sleet, and rain. Tepui even added an aluminum diamond plate along the base panel to protect the structure from dings when we're on the road.

Radical Roof Tent

I went on a three month cross-country road trip with my Tepui Explorer Autana this summer. I cannot say enough good things about this roof tent. It provided us with a confortable home on the road in every weather and temperature condition we encountered. Once you get the hang of the set up and set down it takes no more than 5 minutes with one person and around 2 minutes with two people. I highly recommend this roof tent to anyone living the overlander life.

Great quality, but the ladder….

The product itself is well built and thought out. We camped during the rain, cold, dust, etc. and it held up well. Condensation wasn’t too bad, the mat really helped under the mattress. We needed to buy a 3 inch foam topper to make it more comfortable for us. The ladder… we followed the instructions and let me tell you.. we got so frustrated operating that thing. Especially if the terrain wasn’t perfectly flat, we could not get the steps to click in the right place at the top to prevent the tent from bending as you crawled in. I almost wish there were manual latches like on a normal ladder that you could navigate yourself. Other than that, we have really enjoyed it so far and hope to continue with Thule in the future.

Odd setup on a Forester, overall good tent.

I bought this tent for my 2020 Forester. Had some issues during install as the tent rails that attach to the crossbars (I have the Raised Evo Wing Bar) do not fit on the inside of the feet attached to my factory rails. They just barely clear the front crossbar feet, but the factory rails taper at the back of the car and the tent track sits right above the feet. After a week and 3 calls with Thule, they recommended I mount one of the brackets on the OUTSIDE of the crossbar feet. It looks a little strange, but it worked and they said it was safety tested and they're updating instructions soon. Used it for a quick camping trip this weekend. First off, the thing whistles. Not sure if it's the tent or the crossbars or both. Might need to adjust some things... not sure if I can fix it since the rubber pieces are all in place. The setup isn't too bad. It definitely takes some practice and two people are super helpful. If you have one person inside setting up the bars for the rain fly and one person outside setting up the window awnings, it takes maybe 10 minutes with some practice. Bring a headlamp, this thing is DARK before the windows are all opened! Zipping the cover around edges is a little difficult, and unless you're 6 feet or taller, you'll need a step ladder to reach a lot of the tent accessories you need to set up. The ladder is hard to strap down and open up if you're not on a step or something. The bed is REALLY firm. I enjoy a firmer bed, but this definitely needs some breaking in. Hope it softens up over time. Also, a queen sheet doesn't fit the length of this bed, it's super long! I really wish the rain fly had clear windows to see outside above you when the rain fly is off. Other than these minor cons, it's a solid tent. Completely dry in the morning, spacious (even for my 6'+ boyfriend), sturdy, you can't see people inside it at night even when you have a light on inside it. Love that the ladder is covered with the tent too. Can't wait to camp in it more.

Purchase new rails and locking brackets This doesn't fit locking brackets ! Locking brackets only fit new model tents ! They have Tepui security locking nut system I checked into but by reviews these don't work and Thule said you don't need to lock these tents to Heavy ? But people that had there nut bolt locking system got tent stolen your reply on these bolts was these tents are to heavy to be stolen ?

Awesome

Great tent easy to set up comfortable built very well. Had to modify the mounting system a little to die on my truck rack but that was expected. I have zero complaints with the tent and the delivery was on time and smooth. This is my 3rd roof top tent and this one is the best that I have seen and it used.

Perfect for our Family

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I LOVE taking my kids camping at least once a week over the summer. This is our first roof top tent, and we're IN LOVE! When looking at the Thule Tepui tents, one reason decided on this one was the lower annex! We're a family of 5+dog, and we appreciate our space while we sleep. Last summer the kids and I bundled up together up top, but this summer I'll likely put my littlest one in the pack and play in the annex (so he can sleep without distraction from his siblings). Also worth noting- I can pop up and break down this tent by myself in just a few minutes! It's always a bit easier when my husband is here to work together so I'm not running around the truck, but it's possible to do! My kids and I LOVE sleeping up top! The mattress is so comfy, and we get such a nice cross breeze through the window!

Great quality tent!

Ive used this tent a handful of times in a short month span. It has amazing quality, and nice thick materials on the tent. With the insulation it is warm enough to camp in northern CO in February. Now for the downsides. The design for putting the annex is a pain. Getting it lined up and on place is not an easy to do solo. The stitching on the cover zipper ripped during the first few uses. That's not a dig at the cover, but I tried keeping my bedding and pillows in it when closed and that was to much. Without the pillows it was fine. Overall it's a good quality tent!

great tent Tepui Explorer Autana 4P

received this tent last month. Very happy I ordered the 4 person for the extra space otherwise i think it would have been a tight fit for my wife and I and 2 dogs. Fits perfectly on my F150 with the Xsporter Pro

Only set it up in the driveway

I've only set the tent up once but it was very easy to set up, easy to use, and easy to take down. My only request for improvement would be to have the sliding channel for the cover and for the annex to be separate channels. I found it a pain to remove the cover in order to install the annex. Other than that, seems to be a great product!
