- Q & A
This rack was disappointing
- Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
I looked at all of the fork mount rack options available and thought that the Thule ThruRide carrier was going to be perfect for my Audi factory aero load bars. It didn't work out that way unfortunately. The biggest problem with this rack design is that the rack head acts as a vice on your thru axle. This approach is very versatile as it allows you to position the thru axle in the clamping device so to accommodate the location of the front disc brakes. However, the design doesn't place any pressure against the inside of the fork tubes like other fork-mount racks. Because there is not a tight fit between the fork tubes, the quick release side of the fork is able to move freely on the thru axle and the bike wobbles horribly from side to side as a result. The other problem i had installing this rack is that the clamping mechanism hadn't been fully tapped correctly and i needed to add lithium grease to the threads while turning the clamping bolt with vice grips to get it to tap the threads in the clamp mechanism fully. It was a PIA and was a manufacturing quality issue in my opinion. I sent it back for a refund and wrote this review to help others avoid this same experience.
