    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I purchased this hitch mounted bike rack in the 2" size. I used it on my 2008 Honda Element to move my life and two bicycles across the country from NY. Through inclement weather and 3,000 miles of travel, the Rack was bulletproof. Not only was I not worried about theft(the in line locking cables, and the ability to lock it to the hitch) gave me the utmost confidence and security. The ability to articulate the rack up and down to access the trunk was a money feature when unpacking and accessing gear, without having to remove the bikes. I highly recommend.

T2Pro XT hitch 2 bike rack

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This rack is definitely worth the money. Took about an hour to put all the parts together (only pictures which were sometimes unclear). Bikes mount by two points - strap through back tire frame and ratcheting arm over front tire. Folding the rack out of the way is easy and doesn't require super strength. Love the fact that I don't have to carry separate locking system. After struggling for several years with another bike rack which had parts that broke off trying to slip one bike to the back of the rack and then having to bungee tie the tires to keep the bikes apart, this rack is a dream. DId I say expensive, but WORTH IT?! It's worth it!

    Best rack I've owned

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is my favorite bike rack I've owned. The rack itself is super sturdy yet easy and light enough to take off by myself. The locking system throughout the entire rack is functional and simple. The ease of the handle on the end of the rack is a super nice feature for easy access to stowing away the rack.

    Sturdy, Reliable, Versatile

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The THULE T2 PRO XT is a great rack. It holds 2 bikes easily with no interference between the two as long as you arrange the trays accordingly. A nice feature as some racks want your brake lever on one bike cutting up your saddle or scratching your dropper stanchion on the other. It is very quick and easy to remove or add your bike, and the integrated cable lock is a sweet bonus. I wish it was a tad longer but it does the job. I love how quick and easy you can drop it low, I have a Ford Focus Hatchback and can drop the rack low and open the hatch fully even with bikes on the rack. It's equally easy to raise it up and out of the way when empty and gives you a nice audible "click" so you know it's locked upright. There are tons of things I love about this rack, but there is one big problem for me which may not be a problem for some. The retaining arm started to scratch up the lowers on my fork. Purely cosmetic, as it's the outside of the lowers (where they've been smashed on rocks anyways), but I just don't like it. I put some protective tape on my fork to prevent further damage but that really shouldn't be required. I've also seen people cut old pool noodles and wrap the upper arm to prevent this. All in all, awesome rack, killer features, but my bike gotta look good to feel good.

    Thule Hitch Mount Rack

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Love this Bike rack, it's worth every penny! I've had the older version of this which I loved until using this one. Taking it on and off the car is way easier with the knob vs. pin. Lowering the rack is also much easier now. Same key for cable locks as well as locking it to the car is much smarter.

    So easy to use!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This rack is amazing. It's super easy to load bikes on quickly and securely & I have no problem accessing the trunk of my Subaru Outback when bikes are on the rack. Two bikes can fit very easily without feeling too snug. The rack was fairly straightforward and easy to install.

Did not fit 2018 Subaru Outback

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I was excited to set this up but as I took out the manual there was a bad surprise:
Although Thule's website wizard shows this would fit my 2018 Subaru Outback, the hole to the secure this in the hitch is "too close" to the end of the hitch, making this item incompatible (unstable / unsafe). Thule support confirmed this via chat, needs to be at least 3.8 cm and that's much closer on this car.

    Good but chuncky

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This is a nice update from Thule. The new hitch connection is cool, the hand release position is much better. It is a bit of a clunker but it seems it will last.

    Essential for MTN Bikers

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This rack is fantastic, easy to install with only a few parts, simple design and works flawless. I say it's essential for MTN bikers because of the shocks under the main bar. Most hanging bike racks will not fit a MTN bike with this set up. If you are looking for a sturdy 2 bike mount go with Thule and you can add the additional 2 racks to this if you ever make more friends.

    Finally An Improved Hitch Rack

Hitch racks have generally been the same for a while now, and I'm thrilled with the improvements that Thule has made here. Easy to pop up and down, locks securely to your car, and gets all kinds of bikes to and from the trailhead. Get the 2 bike add on and bring all your friends!

Access to hatch and easy installation

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

The perfect bike rack that is easy to use. Of course I wanted a good quality bike rack that offered the right fit for my bikes, security and easy loading/unloading, but what put this one to the top of the list for me was the ease of installation, low profile when stowed away and hatch access.

Great rack - I'd definitely recommend it

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've used the Thule T2 Pro 2-bike rack for about a year. That amounts to about 200 uses with various bikes from 29ers to 26ers to 650b's to 5" fatties. I've even used it to transport a couple of cruiser bikes, some with fenders and some without fenders on the front wheel. It'll handle them all!

      The pro's:
      - Stout, well thought-out design
      - Good looks
      - Easy operation
      - Fits (almost) all bikes and sizes with ease

      The con's:
      - Didn't quite fit a 5" fattie
      - Front wheel tray is so large I had to trim it
      - Lock insert on knob never quite fit perfectly

Day one, out of the box, this rack was easy to assemble and easy to install and slid right into place on my 2014 Volvo XC60 with a 2" receiver. The one-hand operation to raise and lower the rack is great and well engineered. This rack lives on my vehicle full-time so having a super easy way to raise/lower the rack with one hand is a very welcome feature. The ability to adjust the horizontal load bars is also handy when you're on the way for a weekend of biking with 4 bikes of various sizes (we borrowed the 2-bike add-on), saddle heights and handlebar widths. We were able to easily adjust it to fit four bikes whose handlebars and saddles would have otherwise interfered with each other. Driving out of the gas station and onto the road I realized the wisdom behind putting a little skid plate underneath the main knob you use to tighten the rack into your hitch. I scraped the rack on the road, went out and checked, and sent a non-verbal "kudo's" to the engineers who put that skid plate there because it saved my hours-old rack from getting damaged. Note to self: these racks stick out a careful when exiting gas stations.

I've used this rack with bike frames of all sizes, wheel sizes and tire widths. The ONLY issue I've had with the rack is that the ratchet strap for the rear wheel didn't quite fit the 5" fattie tire my buddy decided to ride one day and we had to use a bungee cord to strap the rear wheel onto the rack.

The nice, big tray that is supposed to fit up to a 5" tire is SO big that it actually rubs against my bumper on my vehicle. I'm not aware of a smaller tray you can purchase for the T2 Pro, so I was stuck with having to trim the tray to make clearance for it. If Thule would have made the tray just 1/2" shallower, bingo. But they didn't, so there you have it.

The lock insert on the main knob has never seated properly in the hole. So, this means I have to be extra careful when removing or installing the rack so the lock insert doesn't fall out. Maybe this is user error, but I've had many Thule lock inserts over the years and this one just doesn't seem perfect.

Fun story: I was on the 405 Freeway South of Long Beach with my rack on my car in the folded-up position when a guy crashed into me from behind. His car was messed up. Mine has a bent bike rack tray. Literally no other damage. That's how stout this rack is. But I'm getting his insurance to buy me a new rack and I'm getting the same one I had.

      Love this rack

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I did a lot of research before buying this rack. I definitely made the right choice. This rack is solid as a rock and ruggedly built. It holds both my road bike and 27.5+ MTB with room to spare. The fold down mechanism works perfectly with the well placed and easy to use handle. With both bikes on the rack I can tilt the rack down with one hand and open the hatchback on my SUV, making access to the cargo area a breeze. The bikes are held solidly in place with no wobble and plenty of clearance so they never touch - no danger of scratching. I, as other reviewers, wish the cables for locking were a little longer but that is not a big problem. The only problem I have is that I am always elected to drive my friends and their bikes to rides because they love how easy to use and secure this rack is. I highly recommend it!!

Nice Rack,; one small issue, and a huge

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

The operation of the rack is the best out there, including Kuat NV1. The handle is so great. No more bending over etc. Ample clearance from both back of car and the ground. Assembly took about 15 minutes. My only issue is the cheesy way in which the wheel baskets connect to the arms-- 4 screws that only bite into a thin plastic. I see this being an issue down the road. That said, at 20% off I am willing to take the risk, as this is cheaper than the Kuat NV which we also own, and I prefer Thule lowering system over the NV1.

EDIT: I cannot fully open my rear Ford E350 doors with this rack. The wheel basket is in the way. Not Backcounty's fault, but I am SOL on this rack for my van. Kinda wishing I had paid the $35 shiipping from REI now. Put it on our Subaru Outback, and put the Kuat NV1 back on the van. Oh well. If your car has a rear door, rather than a hatch do not get this rack.

      Great for accessing a hatch

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The best feature of this rack is where they put the lever to raise and lower the rack, because it is so accessible on the end of the rack it makes it really easy to access the hatch even when loaded with bikes. I also really like the wedge design for mounting in the hitch, I was a little skeptical at first but it has been solid and is nice not having the rack wobbling around.

      Pretty stoked!

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've been running a Kuat Sherpa on my car for about 5 years, which I enjoyed, but since I've moved to bigger bikes and way bigger tires I've been struggling to make things fit.
I picked up the Thule T2 Pro first and foremost because of the tire size it can carry. I have a Surly Krampus with a 29+ wheelset, running 3" tires at the moment, but capable of running up to a 5" tire. I couldn't even fit the swing arm on my Sherpa around my tire, so I'm stoked to have wheel baskets that are made to accommodate a massive tire.
A few pro's and cons to the Thule:
+The rack sits super securely in my hitch, there's very little wiggle when making tight turns or in the event of hitting a large pothole, even when fully loaded with two 27.5+ mountain bikes.
+ The lever for dropping the rack or raising the rack is on the end. which sits on the outside when dropped down, this makes it easy to move when fully loaded with bikes. No ducking under the rack to maneuver things through wheelbases.
+Can carry big bikes, with plus and fat tires easily.
-The cable locks that come out of the swing arm, which is nice, but would be more functional if they were a touch longer. You can wrap them around the tire pretty easily, but not the frame as well, which would definitely add some security to the rack when you stop for a post ride beer.
-The rack sits out a good ways from the back of the car, which takes a little bit to get used to after running with my Kuat, which sits about 4" closer to the car
Overall, I'm definitely happy with the rack, it's a huge upgrade and super functional. I'm stoked for a sturdy rack that is easy to load up big bikes on.

      Pretty stoked!

      Versatile and easy to use

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This rack is awesome! Installation of the rack was simple but took ~2 hours without a power drill (probably would have been ~45 minutes if I had my drill). The use of the handle to move the rack from the vertical position to horizontal is super nice, and lowering it all the way does indeed leave enough room for the rear door on my Toyota Sequoia to open, even with my largest bike in the closest slot on the rack. I had two concerns about this rack: size of tire tray (I needed it to fit 2.5” tires up to stump jumper fattys, as well as kids bikes down to 16" wheels) and how secure the hitch connection would be. When I received the rack it became clear that neither concern would be a problem. The tire trays are plenty big enough and keep the fatty tires securely planted without any damage to rims or tires, while the harness for the front wheel easily cinches down small enough for a 16" wheel (despite the specs saying only down to 20"). For the hitch connection, the hitch holes didn't appear to be able to make a strong connection. However, screwing in the locking knob improved stability to the point that it keeps the rack from wobbling or moving at all. Instructions indicate the locking knob should be tightened every 200 miles. At first, it seemed to need tightening more frequently than that, but now that seems accurate. I also purchased the extension to fit up to four bikes, which I love (see my separate review on that product page). I’m very satisfied and look forward to using this rack for years to come!

      Versatile and easy to use

      Better than the original

I had the original T2 and sold it to upgrade to this version. I love it. The tool-free installation is super fast and solid. Also I love having the lever for pivoting the rack at the end. Lastly, it now comes in black!
