Snug Tite Lock
Slapping all your bikes onto your rack is necessary but occasionally nerve wracking, but Thule's Snug Tite Lock takes some of the worry out of your trip with a bomber construction that helps secure your Hitch Post Pro rack to your hitch. It also makes it significantly harder for someone to lift the rack off your hitch when you stop for a burger, fits both 2in and 1.25in hitch carriers, and has a swappable lock cylinder that lets you use it with different Thule models (other cylinders are sold separately).
- Designed for Thule Hitching Post Pro
- Swappable cylinder for different models
- Fits 2in and 1.25 Thule hitch carriers
- Item #THU0186

Does the Job
As others have said, the pin is about 2 inches longer than is necessary for most applications. this means that the lock is free to spin on the pin and there is about an inch of exposed 1/4 bolt that if someone REALLY wanted to, would be easily accessible with a bolt cutter. I've always just had the mindset that if that were to occur, either A. I parked in a really bad neighborhood and should have known better, and/or B. the person was going to find a way to steal the rack no matter what kind of lock was used. Bottom line: This prevents crimes of opportunity, but will not stop criminal masterminds.

Thule snug tite lock
Lost the key to my hitch bolt and had to cut the bolt off to get the rack off. Ended up having to buy a new bolt. I like how you can securely lock your rack to your car with this bolt.

Snug as a bug
Insert, screw, tighten, lock. Simple. Walk away with peace of mind knowing your expensive equipment is safe from people who want expensive equipment but cannot afford their own and resort to stealing. Snugs up tight too so no wobble or rattle while driving.

not so universal to fit
It fits fine into the hole on the hitch, but if you have a trailer towing box (for break lights, signals, etc), it gets in the way of being able to lock this onto trailer hitch. AND it is proprietary so no other hitch lock will work. Now what????

Doesn't fit my 2010 Explorer for the same reason. How do I lock up my T2 now?!

Nice but expensive!
Mine came with my hitch rack and I have to say it is nice to be able to add that extra bit of security to lock the pin on. Not much to say here folks other than it makes it a bit harder for a would be to steal your stuff! No 5 stars because I really don't see anything just that great that deserves a 5 star rating. But would give it 4.5 if that was an option.

not for euro hitch
fits US box style receiver hitches only. Online rep said it would lock the euro hitch, which is not true, so I'm out shipping $ two ways now :( Light weight pin that I wouldnt trust with a heavy load, bike rake - ok.

Keeps your stuff safe all the time, driving around town, parking at the trail-head. NICCCEEE! Oh, also doesn't fumble around in the slightest - meaning your post and the lock don't wear down. I've had them for years and just upgraded.

It works, but it'll cost you
Let me tell you how the normal pin works, and how this works. The normal "pin" is just a bolt on one side with a lock washer and washer on it. You insert the bike rack in your hitch, and then tighten the bolt into the Passenger side nut of the rack. So your hitch is attached on one side with this bolt going through the pinhole on your hitch and screwed into the nut of the rack inserted in the hitch. The stl2 is that same bolt, but longer with a mushroom head (let your imaginations fly). It still screws into the hitch, but goes out the other side of the hitch, and a lock goes onto the end of the bolt, locking against the aforementioned mushroom head. There is a LOT of bolt showing even after you put the lock on this thing. So if somebody wants to cut the bolt and steal your rack, they will. But we all know locks are for the "honest" people anyways. This thing costs 45-50 bucks! Ridiculous. Thule should be ashamed of themselves. It should cost at most 30. And they'd still be making 25 bucks off the thing. I do like the fact that even if the bolt unscrews itself, the rest of the pin goes through my entire hitch. Nice piece of mind when I drive 3+ hours with my bike on the back of my rig. Cheers!

STL2 - Works as advertised
Nothing fancy.....bolt it on, prevents horizontal sway and locks to keep the hitch from easily being removed. The pin though is longer than needed and sticks out the other end a little too much. A second spare key would have been nice. A little over priced for what it is but you are paying for the name and the quality.

Brought this brand new from BackCountry.com, and it's very easy to install. I did feel safer using the longer screw came with the lock, than the original that came with the bike rack about 1/3 of the length compare to the lock screw. The lock is very simple and very secure, all you have to do is tighten the screw thru the hitch with the rack, and put the lock on the other side and turn the key to lock it, that is all to it. Even though the rack base is secure with this lock, but the rest of Thule rack can still be stolen. I don't know why Thule want to sell this lock to lock down the racks, but use the regular nut for the rest of the racks, that can easily be removed with the proper socket. What I would like to see is Thule use those secure nut similar method that use on car wheel, that require a right key to remove. Hope this help.

I was changing my breaks and had a nasty bolt stuck and wouldn't move after hours...I put some PB Blaster on it, and without exaggerating, it was out in 5 mins. Got it at Pep Boys. Might want to try that...http://www.homedepot.com/p/Blaster-11-oz-Penetrating-Catalyst-Lubricant-16PB-THD/202597469
