    Pump up the jams.

Made to fill up a large Therm-A-Rest NeoAir mattress in under a minute, the NeoAir Torrent Pump operates on four CR123A batteries, or plugs in to the DC adapter in your car, and lets you control exactly how firm you make your mattress. It also weighs only 9.7oz, so you'll be able to throw it in the car or a pack without even knowing it's there.

    Works Great

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I've had an XL NeoAir Dream Sleeping Pad for a couple of years. It's a great pad, but it has always been kind of a pain to get it inflated. But not with this pump - it only took about 2 minutes to inflate the pad to the perfect firmness. I just turned the pump on and let it do the work. Much better than messing around with a stuff sack or huffing and puffing.

Not worth a tinker's retaining wall

Therma-a-rest should quit the pump business. The pump was defective right out of the box - didn't work with either the batteries or the 12-volt connection. Had to pay 6.99 to ship it back to Backcountry and am out the cost of the CR123 batteries (not cheap). Very disappointed to say the least.

Update: Ben with Backcountry contacted me and credited the cost of the return shipping. I appreciate a company who takes customer reviews seriously enough to follow through with a response and take action to rectify the complaint. Thanks, Ben.

For Neo-Air Pads Only I guess...

I HATE blowing up a pad with my lungs. I saw this pump and had to have it for my ExPed SynMat UL9. Sadly it was the most useless tool in my camping gear. It would not inflate my ExPed at all. Not even a little bit. I promptly returned the pump. Maybe I got a defective pump? Maybe it only works with Neo-Air Pads? You would assume it should inflate other pads at least half way by butting the pump nozzle to the inflate valve on a different brand of pad? NOPE at least not at all for ExPed. I ended up going with the ExPed Schnozzle bag. It's not as nice as having a pump inflate my pad, but it's infinity better than having this pump try and fail to inflate my pad.

I would give this 1 star, but since the description specifically states this is for the Neo-Air, and the other review gave it 5 stars for it working, I'll bump it up to 2 stars. But no more than 2 stars because it should work with other pads!

Let it do the blowing for you.

    I love this thing.

The worst part of setting up the tent and getting everything ready to sleep was blowing up the therm-a-rests. This thing makes it so easy.

We have a few of the large Neo Airs and this thing inflates them so easily and quickly. The noise is loud and is annoying but it doesn't really take that long to fill so it is a minimal nuisance. So glad the days of squeezing the stuff sack/inflation bags or blowing till you get light headed are over. Not to mention it keeps your mattress from getting humidity from your breath getting in the mattress and causing mold or mildew.

It uses the same batteries as the UV Steri pen I have so having extra batteries on hand isn't an issue.

    Great product.

    Unanswered Question

I have this, and so far it's a p.o.s. I leave it attached to the mattress for 10 minutes and it doesn't seem to make a difference. Am I doing something wrong?
