    Trendy and sleepworthy

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I used this pillow on a three day bike trip where a pace van met us at each rest point. So glad I bought it; it made recovery a lot less of a concern.

    Good travel pillow

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I used this as my only pillow for a 2-week trip that I was living out of a duffel bag. It took up about as much space as my 55 degree sleeping bag, which also packs down pretty small. The memory foam inside is definitely lumpy, but you can't really tell when you are actually sleeping - it can just look/feel a bit odd at first. The moon design is pretty cool. Overall, I'd recommend it, but it would be cool if it could pack down a bit smaller.

    Compressible . . . .

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I wanted to love this pillow. I tried it out at home before taking it in my backpack. Home tests: It took a LONG time to puff up to its puffy fullness. Very comfy! Nice feel against my face. When I practiced stuffing it, I was not able to get it as small as it arrived, maybe half into its attached stuff-pocket. When I took it backpacking, even though I didn't compress it into it's pocket, it compressed inside my backpack and didn't quite loft up fully by sleep time, but it was comfy enough. When I awoke about halfway through the night, it was compressed from the weight of my head. Flat. Second night, same. I even tried to double it for a bit of cushion by folding it over. Both nights, I had no pillow for half the night. I'm shopping for a new pillow.

    So comfy!

These pillows are just what we need for air camping. They’re light, sooo comfy & squish down to nothing. Don’t get impatient, it’s a 24 hour wait till they loft up completely. And don’t put them in the dryer. Just fluff them up every couple hours till they’re nice n puffy. The XL is the size of a regular pillow.

A decent compact pillow, but ....

... but it's not as comfy as the listing (or most of the other reviews) would have you believe.

It does fold up/roll up pretty small, but not really small; it's about 1/2 size when rolled up, maybe 1/3 of the size.

The foam bits inside will expand once you stretch it out, but it take time to reach fullness. And even when fully expanded, the foam bits are not a solid mass, so there will be some flattening of the pillow when using it. It's also a good idea to pull the pillow out first, before you set up your tent, and before you roll out your sleeping pad and bags, giving the foam bits time to fully expand and give you the most "full" feeling. The fabric cover is a soft flannel type material and is comfy against your skin.

Mostly comfortable, easy to pack, and a good deal (on sale).

    Therm-a-Rest Compressible Pillow

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This is the perfect pillow for traveling, camping, backpacking or any activity where you need a compact pillow. It backs down pretty small making it easy to carry. At first glance, the pillow doesnt appear to be that comfortable, but once you open it up and let it expand for a few minutes, the pillow really expands and is quite comfortable.

    Love this!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This pillow has so many uses! I use this pillow on planes, camping and going to friends houses in case they don’t have a second pillow. Yep I’m a snob about that. It really squishes down to be able to travel with and expands to a legitimate pillow. I will probably get another for my family shortly

    The moon's made of cheese

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Nothing like falling asleep on a bunch of moons! I used to have one of these but lost it. I had it for years, and it was so easy to backpack with, or take on the plane. So finally I gave in and got a new one in the small so that it fits perfectly into my sleeping bag, or behind my back at work when sitting, or fitting in a carry-on on plane trips. I recommend getting one of these no matter who you are.

    Best camp pillow

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is the perfect camp pillow. It still feels like a regular pillow, but can be packed into itself. Super lightweight.

Had one for awhile and picked up another

Only because my girlfriend kept stealing mine when we went camping. Great pillow for travel, car camping or even if you need that extra comfort for backpacking, it's light and compresses to half the size and enough to be strapped on the top of your pack. A great pillow 10/10.

      So far so good

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

My initial impressions are awesome. Packs small, obviously not as small as using a pillowcase with clothes you're bringing anyway stuffed in it, but this is an extra piece of gear so expect it take up SOME amount of space. That being said it's about the size of a Nalgene bottle so if you can fit it then it's well worth the extra cubic inches. Seems comfy, Even the small size is substantial.

      A camping,car,travel pillow

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

It's better than the floor or a rolled up shirt, good for people who need pillows Ina tent. Compresses to afairly small size, Nalgene bottlish. Used in a car for a few hour trip and multiple camping trips.

      Filling Unimpressive

I had high hopes for this pillow based on these reviews but was not impressed with its filling. It just wan't very comfortable. I would just assume using my jacket instead, settled for an air pillow instead.

        Awesome PIllow

        • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

These pillows are great. It always sucks when you are camping and realize you forgot your pillow. Luckily with this, it is so small you can just keep it in your camping stuff at all times.

        Great pillow

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

These pillows are awesome. I have now bought them for my entire family! They are super plush but pack down to almost nothing. These pillows are great for car camping and airplane trips.

        Great for the price

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Pillow took a long time to fully expand. By day three it was still pretty flat so I tossed it in the dryer on low heat for a few minutes and it expanded completely into a nice, fairly firm pillow. Also washed up well after a week of use. Felt almost too firm for my preferences but nothing uncomfortable.

        Perfect camping pillow!

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

We bought 3 of these to bring with us when we embarked on a VW campervan vacation. The size was perfect for us to transport on the plane to our destination and performed flawlessly as our pillows in the van. No complaints from this middle-aged woman (meaning, didn't wake up with neck pain on any of the 4 nights I slept on this pillow in a campervan!). Recommend!

Is this good for back packing or mainly car camping?

        Best Answer

        Hey Ross,

This will work great for backpacking as well as car camping. It compresses down to a good, small size. It does weight a little bit, so you have to decide for yourself how big of an issue that is. The weights are:

        Small - 7oz

        Medium - 9oz

        Large - 12oz

... btw the ultimate answer to your question is "yes." Good for both. I actually own two copies of the pillow and I use them in the car (for my kids) on long rides.

If you want to see this thing fluff: put it in the dryer. WOW.

I used to take a small version backpacking, but there are better options if you are concerned about size and weight. The inflatables take up much less space and you don't have to worry about them losing their "fluff" while in the field.

What size did you get? Anyone using a small? I pretty much sleep on my back.

        Thanks!

The small is great! it's just enough cushion to not have your head directly on the ground. I've stopped using full-size pillows long ago and since I travel a lot, the small is great to use on the go (saves space packing), and very comfortable to sleep on. Hope this helps!

FIrmness/compression of this? I have another pillow that looks deceptively similar and I was unhappy with how it compressed to a rock hard mess. I should know better given these are compressible, but try anyway right? Does this hold up? Or does it at least offer a uniform, relatively soft surface once your head is down?

        Best Answer

It is amazingly soft. I use a small and a large depending on what I'm doing. They do roll up tight, but when unpacking fluff them up and wait 10 to 15 minutes. All the comforts of home, seriously! Do not store these pillows rolled up or they will take forever to fluff up!

Do you think this would be a good pillow for a week long backpacking trip? If so what size should I get?

        Best Answer

These pillows all weigh @ less than a lb, and are worth it for a little comfort to a good nights sleep. Size depends on how comfortable you want your head to be. Medium works for me, and I usually shove a packed stuff sack underneath for extra padding.

The pillow will compress but still takes up a decent amount of pack space and as James posted they are not very heavy but a pound is a pound when you are carrying it. With that said, I carry one and need it for a good nights sleep. I also have the medium and use a down sweater or fleece for extra volume.

i lost the instructions. how do I wash the pillow can i put in in the washer of strictly hand wash ?

This is from the washing instructions tag on my pillow, "Machine Wash GENTLE. Tumble Dry LOW. Not to exceed 125 degrees. DO NOT DRY CLEAN! Made in U.S.A. I think hand washing is always better, if you prefer, then hang dry using two spring loaded clothes pins, reversing every few hours until dry.

I have washed mine on a warm regular cycle and tumble dried on medium with no issues. The only way to get them to "refluff" to a full pre-compressed state is to tumble dry them, in my opinion. I usually let them air dry for a day or so after taking them out of the dryer in case there is any additional moisture.

If I get the large one, will this fit inside my Atom sleeping bag??? Or should I just get a medium?

Get the large. Mine fits nice & snug into my WM Ultralite sleeping bag hood. It will also compress into your sleeping bag stuff sack without noticing any difference. The large does weigh three ounces more than the medium.

I would get medium, I got the small and it is nice but.... I would totally go for medium if I could change. If you're looking to save a little weight and space in your pack, go for the small. If you are car camping or roll around a lot in your sleep, get the medium, or even the large.

How small does this pack down for backpacking?

        Best Answer

They come with an attached stuff sack that they roll in to. Thats what the attached string in the picture is for.The small size compacts down to 10"x4"x3.5" when rolled into itself. The large size compacts down to 13"x5"x4". Check the pictures I've added to see them compared to a standard bed pillow.
