Deployment Comfort
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
Purchased this from Backcountry in 2011 while deployed to Iraq. I slept on it with a standard military issued cot for 11 months. Never had any issues, and still use it in the military today. Was in the field yet again this weekend, and after 7 years still sleeps great! Well worth the money, and Backcountry sent it direct to me in the Middle East. Very happy with Backcountry, and the product.

This pad rocks! I have used it 5 times and love it. No complaints at all! It keeps me warm and is very comfortable. If you have any questions, hit me at 801-523-4075 or email me at borloski@backcountry.com.

comfy and warm
- Familiarity:

This is a great car camp pad. It is warm and super comfy. If looking for a backpacking pad, I would go with a lighter option, but if doing primarily car camping, this is a top choice for the price.

It works
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Took the pad out for my 1st backpacking trip! The temp was 38ish at night and I was warm from the ground up, so I guess it did the job. Im 5'4 so the regular length is plenty long enough. I think its pretty light, but I'm not an expert backpacker. Over I think its a great buy, but I'll use my larger, softer mat for car camping.

Car camping essential
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
Two of the large of this Matt perfectly fill the marmot limelight 2. These matts blew me away with how comfortable they were despite all of the rocks that we realized we were set up on once we tore down camp. The warmth was amazing. In the past I've slept outside on Coleman air mattresses and never realized how cold the ground was until I used this mattress, it's worth the money for that alone. The new bags they come with are drastically easier to fit the matt in than the bags the older models came with. If you are going to a festival and stick of constantly buying cheap air mattresses that inevitably pop and being cold all night these are the answer. Everyone should have one of these.

Worth the Money.
- Familiarity:

Makes nights in a tent a lot better. Makes the morning after easier to get up. Good construction, Solid seems, The self inflate is the bees knees. I like how you can adjust the firmness by how much air you put in. I am 5'11 250 pounds and this product works well for me. Also Backcountry you have my business for life!!

Easy enough for a kid to use
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
My daughter got to be the first one to use the pad for a girls camp out. She said it was very easy to use, easy to inflate. It was a week long camp and she only put air in it the one time. The only issue she had with it was repacking took two of them, but in the end they got it in the sleeve it came with and it had room to spare. I am pleased with the purchase and will probably have to get a few more.

Great for Car Camping
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
I use this to provide some cushion when I camp in the back of my Jeep. I wish it was a little wider, but overall I like it. Easy to inflate, and even easier to deflate.

Car Camp
Bought one of these for car camping. It's pretty comfortable, and less expensive than other car camping pads. Seems durable as well.

packed size too big to carry
- Familiarity:
- I returned this product before using it
I got this sleeping pad but then returned it as it's packed length was around 26 inches (for large) which is too long. Although I liked it's R value but it's bulky and packs big.

Got this for my father
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
As my dad has gotten up in years our days of hiking in to a campsite are regrettably behind us, but I would never forfeit the bonding experience that comes with making camp. We still make an effort to car camp from time to time and I purchased this sleeping pad in hopes that it would help my father wake rested and pain free. It makes a fantastic cot topping mattress, and allows for a great nights sleep. It's a seemingly fair price for a sleeping pad of this quality.

Game Changer
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
A good sleeping pad is arguably the most important part of any camping setup. I hadn't done much camping until I pulled the trigger on this pad. While it doesn't appear much thicker than a backpacking pad, the BaseCamp is worlds more comfortable. This is definitely a car camping pad (heavy and bulky) but it makes all the difference when it comes to getting a good night of sleep.

Therma-Rest Basecamp Pad
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Adequate for the job. The videos and pictures make it look a tad thicker than it really is. Not as bulky as some describe, it compresses down small enough for short backcountry trips. I think it is right in-between a car camper and a backcountry pad. If you are a car camper, go for something more luxurious, if you are a backcountry camper, go something lighter.

Deployment Comfort

I was stuck in a tent in Kuwait with the military. Ordered this directly from Backcountry. They sent it to me in the middle of the desert in Kuwait. It was a back saver! Grea mat, then ordered the pillow. Still utilize it all the time.

Ditch that bulky inflatable mattress

This is a great buy for car camping if like me you've been hauling around a bulky inflatable mattress. Pretty comfortable. I would recommend. Too bulky though for back country camping.

i'm a side sleeper, been using this car camping for the last year and it's super comfortable. not ideal for backpacking, but if you plan on doing any car camping, and you're a light sleeper like i am, this pad is an awesome value.

Great until you try the luxury map
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
My fiance and I started camping out in the bed of my Raptor after I bought a truck tent and were waking up really sore so we bought some therm-a-rest basecamps. They really are great pads until you realize what you're missing out on with the therm-a-rest luxury maps. If you're kind of tight on space, by all means the basecamp is a great product and is considerably smaller than the luxury map. But if you're like me and you don't plan on actually carrying it on long treks, save yourself some time and sleep in total comfort with the luxury map! I still rate this product as 4 stars because it's by far more comfortable than other products out there and it feels and looks like it is made to last years and years.

Hey, You can get them directly from MSR/Therm-a-Rest for about $20 per. I believe the specific one you want is going to be the 36L, but contact them to verify that, and to see if it's something they can steer you towards locally.
