Given as Gift
We purchased these and gave them as a gift. We have a friend who is an avid football fan who mentioned he needed some rain gear for their tailgates. We bought these paints and the matching jacket and gave them to him as a gift. He loved them and is excited to use them next football season.

Zips to pockets leak, not waterproof
These fit well but in decent wind and rain they're not going to keep you dry. The zips to the pockets aren't sealed and water leaks in pretty easily. There is a flap covering the zips but in any significant rain this doesn't work. I wore them once at the end of a hike in the Yorkshire Dales. Rained heavily for the last hour. I could feel rain leaking in almost straight away. Will hopefully be able to return them.

The Dark Grey Heather pant is made of completely different material than the Black pant. And the Grey weighs 12 oz, not 8 oz like the black and like the specifications say. The black pant fits me fine and seems well made.

Quality product... would recommend
As a tall and relatively slim person, it's often difficult to find specialty items that fit me well. Rain pants are usually something that are produced without fit and function in mind, but not with The North Face. I find both the quality and fit to be excellent and it packs down small for easy travel. I'd recommend these to anyone in the market for rain pants.

Way too big
The material was very nice, and I could see these being used as snow pants as well. However, even with a size Small I was absolutely swimming in these pants, especially around the ankle area. Not sure why they come so baggy, but I could definitely see it hard to do any sort of hiking in pants like these. The pictures posted on here are very misleading. I returned them immediately

Awesome EDC rain gear!
I bought these pants to go along with a North Face Summit Series rain coat. They're lite, but not ultra lite. By that I mean they have a durable feel to them. They compress into its own hand pocket. I have a few sets of rain gear and a problem I kept having was the waterproof coating would stick to itself and eventually rip/degrade. I have had these north face pants now compressed in my EDC pack for months with no signs of wear or degrading of the fabric. I've also used them several times for hiking/bushcraft, they also have worked great as lite weight snow pants! I have seen the grey version, I regret not getting those over black! Although I'm very happy with my purchase!

The other users complained about size, and apparently the fact that these rain pants had a "rain coat" feel and/or noise to them. Firstly, I'm 5'9" 160ish lbs, I ordered a Medium and they fit perfect. They're just a little baggy in case I need to wear layers beneath, but they're fine if I'm just in my jams. Secondly, they absolutely DO have a raincoat noise to them. Probably because they are rain pants. My gf and I just spent a week in Alaska and it was raining 50/50. I had these guys one for two days straight in Seward, AK. I was completely comfortable and found myself for the first time appreciating rain gear. I also wore them hiking for a bit, but we did a significant climb and it was only a minor drizzle, so instead of dealing with the heat of rain pants, I just wore my shorts.

Attention North Face and all outdoor clothing manufacturers. . Just because I have a 36 inch waist and a 30 inch inseam does not mean that my legs are like telephone poles. These things were huuuge around the ankles. Comically large. I returned them.

The material is extremely stiff/noisy with an almost raincoat/canvas kind of feel.
