Why We Like The VECTIV Infinite Trail Running Shoe

The VECTIV Infinite Trail Running Shoe is our go-to armor for our more rugged routes. Sticks, prickers, and rocks can try as hard as they want, but they'll never break through the bomb-proof uppers. As we get deeper into the woods, the singletrack becomes more technical, but we confidently keep our pace with the soft, perforated tongue and cushy footbed providing distraction-free comfort and the innovative Pebax plate providing multidirectional stability. As we come up and over the summit, the plush cushioning takes on more of our landing force to keep our joints happy as we fly downhill to blow past our previous record.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love this trail shoe! This is my second consecutive pair. My previous trail shoes were Hoka Speedgoat 3 & 4, Salomon Speedcross 2,3,4.

Subjectively, not for true technical trails

I've had the Vectiv Infinite shoes in my arsenal of trail runners since Christmas 2021. Subjectively, the North Face Professionals have made the perfect shoes for only dry to damp, road to moderately technical foothill trails. The Infinite is not for my kind of technical trails because of one major problem. The outsole is not made to handle, what I call, truly technical mountain trails. I'm a retired Professional Engineer who has lived and played in western Canada's Coastal and Rocky Mountains all my life. I have enjoyed skiing, backpacking, mountaineering (yes, with ropes and tools) and running. I run everything from roads to stupid technical mountain trails (fear permitting). To me, a technical mountain trail is when I'm standing at the trailhead, looking up (at 45-60 degree angle) to either a mountain summit or ridge that is about 5-7km trial length and 1000+ meter elevation gain. At my age and based on my experience on the route, this adventure will take me about 2-4 hours up and about 1/2 the time down. I choose my shoes based on my experience with these technical mountain trails, whereby the #1 factor is the shoe's outsole grip/traction. This is the major problem with the Vectiv Infinite. A truly technical mountain running shoe's outsole grip/traction is produced by both it's material and tread pattern. The Infinite's outsole material is perfect! It is sticky like approach and rock climbing shoes, Namely, perfect material for solid rock and mountain screes made of boulders. HOWEVER, you also need a tread pattern that gives you confidence with the rest of the trail, which is where the Infinite's outsole will fail you during both technical ascents and descents. Its outsole tread pattern is just flat with sparsely spaced, shallow lugs. Consequently, you end up struggling for grip/traction during both the ascent and descent, which leads to lack of confidence with the Infinite. The best way to show you what I mean is to tell you my shoes that I use for technical mountain trails: Columbia Montrail Trinity AG (direct competitor with also a Pebax plate), Tecnica Origin XT (custom form fitting to my feet), Salomon Speedcross (Kings of ugly weather) and La Sportiva TX3 (my approach shoes). Just Google images of their outsoles and compare them with the Infinite. What more can I say. Consequently, I now only use the Vectiv Infinite for dry to damp, road to moderately technical foothill trails around where I live, which is about 1 hour east of the Rockies. I hope this helps someone. Cheers!

Just ordered a 2nd pair.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Just got back from Rainier National Park, wore these the entire time, first time hiking in anything besides boots. Game changer, summited 3 peaks in the Tatoosh Range in these, and did a rainy hike.

Wow they feel great

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I purchased last season's style of this shoe. The colors are different but everything else remains the same. I was reluctant even then because I thought they looked a bit loud, this season's color scheme is even crazier. With that being said, once they were on my feet I was sold. Whoever thought to build a slope into these shoes was a genius. They literally make you WANT to get up and move. After an exhausting day of at the office, something as simple as going to the store, which would normally elicit a groan, feels good in these shoes. When I first saw them, I thought to myself, "what was North Face thinking", but here we are.

Great shoe

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Nice support. Somewhat odd colors but probably works for some. Seem well suited for runs that are mix of trail and road.
