Great surprise!

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I was looking for a good running jacket for the winter and this was one of the lower cost options recommended by Backcountry. I had mixed feelings about ordering it since I like the North Face brand but the jacket itself did not look up to the challenge of handling a cold winter. I ended up ordering it and have no regrets. It has handled a very cold and harsh winter on the roads and trails and is a great outer shell. I have run in 10 degree weather with a thermal base, long sleeve shirt and this jacket and I was fine. When it gets above 30 degrees, I drop the long sleeve and just go with a base layer and the jacket. I don't think it will handle temperatures above 55 degrees that well since it doesn't breathe that well. The things I like about the jacket; great value, versatility, fit, handles wind chills just fine, it zips up to your chin if needed for some extra wind protection, has handled snow and light precipitation and has a pretty cool outer shell that almost has a canvas feel to it. I imagine it would be great on a trail run. Things I don't like; I wish there was one additional chest pocket, or an interior pocket, since the front pockets zip and your hands rub up against the zipper when you put your hands in it. A little more breathability would make this jacket a great Spring and Autumn jacket. The thumb holders are great, unless you run with a Garmin or other fitness tracker and need to check your wrist. I need to pull back the thumb holders into the sleeve. Also, although the hood is adjustable, it just doesn't seem to fit. No big deal since I don't use that feature anyway. Overall, this was a great purchase because of the jackets versatility, value, fit and that it is so well made.

Great outer layer

Well I got this mainly for jogging in winter but it?s so nice I?m gonna replace my puffy down coat. I?m 255lb and this xxlg fits perfectly. Considering I?m 5?8. So it might be a bit short for some over let?s say 5?10. It?s different from the bionic jacket I had which was also of a similar design and function. This is a decently priced and good looking shell. Wear a wool sweater underneath and you?d be fine in 30 degree weather. Any colder and you might find it a lil cold. I generate a lot of heat and could see this holding it in so I?ll have to test it.
