    Active ventilation for alpine adventures.

Look no further than The North Face Men's Summit L3 Ventrix Hooded Insulation Jacket if you're seeking an insulated jacket that can actually keep up with your dawn patrol sessions and big-mountain adventures. The L3 Ventrix Hooded Insulated Jacket delivers both active ventilation and essential warmth required to tick off famous lines and legendary peaks from your bucket list this winter season. Its relatively lightweight nature allows you to easily stuff it in a pack and wear it on swift summit pushes without slowing down.

One of the true innovations we've seen in outerwear this year, Ventrix insulation uses stretch perforations designed within the insulation itself. These perforations open and close with every body movement, regulating your temperature on the ascent without overheating and sweating issues associated with multi-hour skins uphill and daunting pushes to the summit. Once you've reached the summit and stopped moving, the insulation's perforations naturally close up, so you're not susceptible to frigid drafts of air along exposed alpine zones.

Seeing that it belongs to the Summit Series, the jacket has zippered hand pockets that are easily accessible with a pack and harness on, plus there's a helmet-compatible hood that's both adjustable and elasticized for a snug fit. The Summit L3 Ventrix Hooded Insulated Jacket uses a lightweight nylon-stretch ripstop shell that's both tough-wearing and water-resistant, so you won't have to worry about light snow and rain showers when you're moving through the mountains.

    • Alpinist-friendly jacket built for rapid ascents
    • Ventrix insulation actively regulates temperature
    • Stretch ripstop shell is light, durable, and wind-resistant
    • DWR finish repels oncoming snow flurries and light rain
    • Abrasion-resistant print on upper yoke for wearing with a pack
    • Pack and harness-accessible hand pockets with large zippers
    • Helmet-compatible hood with rear adjust and elastic binding
    • Item #TNF03H7

    Awesome

    • Height: 6'0"

I've got a couple of these (summit series, hooded, non hooded) and love them.

This is the more spendy option of the Ventrix line and in line with the Nano Air and Atom LT price wise, but my personal favorite.

    Pros -
awesome fit. Athletic, longer torso and arm length, stretchy. The hood is great and does indeed fit over a helmet. Pockets are great and accessible when wearing a harness and pack.
    Fabric material is really nice.
    Cons -
and this is somewhat situational. Probably too much insulation for active pursuits unless it's just super super cold. Like, a tech shirt and this in 15 degree weather while splitboarding and it is still too much jacket. I have not been in lower temps yet, but it'd be perfect if I were in a much colder environment. If doing more passive activities, it's pretty perfect in those temps.

My jacket hoarding spouse LOVES this!

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

Out of the 30+ jackets my husband owns, the Summit L3 Ventrix is his absolute favorite jacket. It's breathability and stretch makes it ideal for activities like climbing, rowing, and cycling. The warmth rivals that of one of his 600 fill down jackets, but this jacket is far less bulky, more water repellant and it looks much cooler. The image for the Turbulence Grey is misleading, it's really a light grey. I'm now completely sold on this jacket and will be buying a womens Summit Ventrix for myself. I would encourage anyone that likes to get awesome outside, to buy this jacket.

    Breathe

The North Face has done it again. This jacket is warm like a down, but breathes like thoroughbred racing horse. I'll be using it for backcountry skiing and any other activity that I'm looking to keep warm, but might build up a sweat. The heavier materials in the summit series are ideal for carrying backpacks.
