    about perfect

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: med

my favorite layer for climbing/hiking/etc. only complaint is it's a bit baggier than I'd like. shows no signs of wear after putting it through the wringer.

As the review below states, I think this layer might be better than the tried and true Patagonia R1. Yes, I said it. The R1 is a great layer, but sometimes it is a touch too thick or I find it fits a little too snug. This North Face hoodie is perfect in my humble opinion. The full zip makes it great for regulating temperature or easy on and off, the chest pocket has a great inner pocket to keep your phone from bouncing around, the grid is the perfect weight for warmth but not too warm and the sleeves/thumb holes are a great fit. Can't recommend this piece enough. I use it running, biking, skinning, climbing, and just hanging out. Still a little techy for casual wear, but not as "alpine-y" as the R1 or other tech fleeces.

    Perhaps better than you-know-what

It might be better than the Patagonia R1 hoodie primarily because it isn't cut as tight; meaning you can get a silky base layer under much more easily it for additional warmth. I also prefer the full zip here to a pullover there; and the fleece here is a smaller check, more stretchy and a little cooler. I come home from work and throw this baby on for casual sitting around. Put a thin layer underneath for walking the dog at the nearby park. IMO it's at least a fair competitor to the R1, and some - like me - might prefer it outright. I have the red and the black colors, waiting for North Face to make it in blue.

    Excellent and versatile midlayer

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

I am very happy with this fleece so far. It is very soft and comfortable. It breathes very well. It provides good warmth when you need it. The hem and sleeve length are perfect. The hood fits great and works under helmets. The fleece is very thin, but the warmth to weight ration is high. I have used it ski touring, hiking and mountain biking. For ski touring I use it as a midlayer. For hiking/biking more of an outer layer unless it is really cold. The fit on me is close, but enough room for any thickness base layer. Only has one pocket (chest), but it has a nice stretch inner pocket in that pocket to keep a phone secured. The lack of hand pockets leaves the waist area less bulky for technical uses.
