I can't speak to anything but the fit and style. I don't hate the style or color (dove gray), and they are a good weight. I would not hike in them, but it seems they would be good for some light outdoor activity and definitely around town stuff. The foot on these isn't as bulky as some other brands/styles, and the sole certainly doesn't have the chunk of a proper hiker. I bought this style of boot in mid and tall shaft heights. As with all things (all things!) in the retail realm of TNF, they are narrow and generally run small. The foot looks narrow and tapers in the toe in a way few functional winter boots do. I didn't notice issues with the shaft as I never go to the point of tying the boots, but the foot on these things is a good size, or size-and-a-half too small. I wear a 7.5-8 US in most joggers and hikers, so I opted for the 8 because I know TNF runs small in everything. To reiterate, I ordered the tall shaft, and it was the first boot I tried one. I was not prepared to slide a thin-socked-foot in the boot and immediately have to check I ordered and was sent the proper size. It was toe-numbingly small in length and width. These mids were only fractionally bigger, but still toe-numbing. I wanted them to fit because it is rated as a good boot, the look is nicer than other boots with the same rubber-footed design, and the price was a steal. However, after trying them again with a Smartwool ski sock, there was just no way these would be comfortable or warm. I would try them in a 9 for length if I thought they'd be any wider. Three stars because I can't say they are bad boots, but the sizing of the foot of the boots is inexcusably inaccurate.
