Rolling Thunder 36in Gear Bag

The North Face Rolling Thunder 36in Gear Bag is an easy way to get your gear out of the country. Bomber Base Camp materials work with the plastic bumpers to ensure long-lasting durability for all your trips, while a perforated exposed back panel reduces weight without sacrificing strength. The zippered external pocket is always accessible so you can pull your passport out at a moment's notice, and the internal mesh pocket splits the main compartment for better organization. The North Face added a Sherpa strap to secure extra backpacks and duffel bags for convenience, along with coated daisy chains for durable lash points.

  • Bomber rolling bag for transporting all of your gear safely
  • Incredibly tough construction holds up against wear and tear
  • Perforated exposed back panel reduces weight, not strength

Currently you can save over $100, and it certainly stands out on the baggage carousel!

Big, durable, and tough

This is pretty much the ultimate roller/duffel bag. It is extremely spacious and you will probably find yourself with more than enough room for anything else once you are done packing. Rock solid construction, seems completely waterproof, or at a minimum, water resistant. Multiple carry handles at corners, sides, and ends make it super easy to transport whether you are pulling behind you, or picking up/putting down. Flown with it several times and besides a few scuff marks on the outer material, no issues whatsoever. Definitely worth the investment.

Huuuuuuuuge

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

This is a big bag. I got it because I was traveling with my dog and I preferred to have just one bag to drag along while I manage him as well. I threw everything in there -- shoes, food, water bottles, and even my briefcase with laptop and cameras. It's a bit different to pull along, as there is no telescoping handle. The webbing handles on the corners work well. You just grab the one that lets it roll behind you without hitting your feet. I was able to lift it fully loaded by the handles on the ends fairly easily into a car, given the weight. It rolled well as long as I was paying attention. If you just drag it absent-mindedly it can twist on you. There are plenty of lash loops to hook on carabiners and attach other bags or items you have to move. I wouldn't recommend it for being on the move or going through crowds, it's just too big. But it's bomber and weather resistant and will last a really long time. I have yet to put it on a plane and see what damage they can do to it, but it should hold up.

Rolling to New Zealand

My wife and I will be touring New Zealand for the month of February. We purchased the Rolling Thunder to carry our camping gear. 2 Core camp chairs, 2 Big Agnes Q Core Sleeping Pads (we're active seniors), 2 Black Diamond Carbon Z Trekking Poles and a Big Agnes Big House Deluxe Camping Tent all fit into this incredible duffel, which weighed out (54 lbs.) before it cubed out. We will attach our trusty North Face Large Base Camp Duffel with the rest of our gear and roll through the airport, campgrounds and ferry in NZ. North Face Duffels are bullet proof and have served me well on Kili, trekking the Khumbu, etc. This is the first time that I've ever submitted a comment, and I'll file a followup in March. Happy Holidays!

Light weight, strong, functional

Really like how instead of a retractable handle, there's a solid webbing handle. Its well built, about as light as it can get without losing durability. TNF knows how to make their duffels, and the added wheels on this one, which are off road worthy, doesn't make this bag any less expedition ready.

Is it waterproof like throw in the bed of my pickup truck and drive through a rainstorm for an hour?
