    Purist Jacket

Designed for charging through deep snow on steep slopes, the Purist Jacket has the technicality and durability to stand up to your hardest-hitting adventures. The North Face built the Purist with 3-layer Gore-Tex to seal out moisture while allowing vapor to escape—preventing you from turning into a sauna on the skin track. The zippered underarm vents let you maximize airflow when you're working hard, and are pack-compatible for touring. The stretchy powder skirt and helmet-compatible hood keep snow from sneaking in at either end and the adjustable cuffs have hook-and-loop tabs for a secure fit plus wrist gussets with thumbholes that protect your extremities. The articulated fit ensures you can use your full range of motion without worrying about bunching or restriction for a full day of on-mountain comfort.

    Best Shell!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'1"
    • Weight: 115lbs

This jacket is awesome, I have only used it a few times but the waterproofing and wind resistance are unlike any other jacket that I've had. The YKK Aqua-guard really makes a difference in not letting any water in whatsoever. I also loved the pocket placement and sizing, they were big enough to fit my big iPhone which I seem to have problems with in my other jackets. The area around your neck where it zips is also more stiff than I have seen in another jacket but I think it was really useful when it was snowing to keep moisture from really getting to my face mask. For a shell, I couldn't ask for more. My only complaint is that it comes in more than two different colors.

    Great for a cold day

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'3"
    • Weight: 130lbs

My friend used this coat on a super cold day up LIttle Cottonwood Canyon.
It was great. It had room within the size for another layer.
solid coat, solid look. great situation.

    My Favorite Shell

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: small
    • Height: 5'8"
    • Weight: 115lbs

I am in love with this jacket to say the least.

There is room to layer with a hoodie or Nano puff jacket. I was super happy with the Gore-tex because it helped block out the wind on the chair lift.. The back is a little longer, which was great for when I had to sit down in the snow to strap my bindings on. The two front pockets are big enough that my iphone and cards would fit. With it being a shell, I could pack it down pretty small to fit in my backpack.

    Great Shell for Uphill Skiing

Great lightweight shell that is perfect with a thermal layer underneath. Easily packs down into a small day pack for going up and plenty of vents to keep you cool if you prefer to keep it on. The front vents double as pockets which is convenient as well. The only downside to this jacket is thin sleeves are tricky to get over thick mittens.

      Awesome Shell

      • Size Bought: Small
      • Height: 5'8"
      • Weight: 135lbs

I've demoed a few other high end ski shell's that cost $200 - $300 more. This North Face Purist jacket does just a good a job if not better at keeping out the wind and water and providing adequate breathing. My favorite feature over other jackets is the really wide neck, so you can zip it up and protect your neck and mouth from the cold, but there's enough room for breath to escape so it doesn't fog my goggles.

The only downside to this jacket is the color. I don't know why North Face would make their high-end ski shell white and black. Yeah, it may look clean and classy, but white and black are the two hardest colors to see on a snowy powder day in the trees.

I'm 5'8 140lb and the small fit perfectly -- was able to have a base layer and mid layer fit comfortably underneath the shell.

      Great Touring or Resort Jacket

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size
      • Height: 5'4"

The Purist is a very breathable and waterproof shell that is perfect for touring or the resort. I've worn it in any condition you can think of and have always stayed warm and dry.

It is everything you want in a shell - lightweight, super breathable with the biggest pit zippers I've ever seen, completely wind and waterproof with 3L Gore-tex, and has pack and harness compatible pockets. The front pockets are also ventilated and extend the length of the chest and part of the torso. I love that you can access your bibs through the chest pocket! The super stretchy powder skirt that seamlessly integrates into The North Face pants and bibs is also clutch.

I have both this year and last year's models. This year's has been softened and has more stretch than last year, but it is otherwise about the same. Last year's came with a lightweight Ventrix vest that I loved, but this year's does not include the vest.

The fit is a regular cut and true to size with enough room for layering.

I love and highly recommend this jacket and the Purist pant, as well!
