    Mountain Light Triclimate Hooded Jacket

When you're scouring the internet for pre-season deals on your season pass, make sure you don't skim by The North Face's Mountain Light Triclimate Hooded Jacket, cause you'll be missing out on a killer three-for-one deal. Waterproof and down-insulated with zip-out versatility, this jacket has winter-ready performance and year-round functionality for whatever weather comes your way. The Gore-Tex shell offers durable waterproofing on snowy lift rides, and down insulation keeps you toasty warm when frigid winds are blasting you on all sides. When the snows melt and the closing day festivities are over, you can zip them apart, giving you a stand-alone down jacket and a breathable multi-season rain coat. Both the shell and the liner feature hand pockets for convenient storage on the mountain and around town, and when the cold starts back up again, you can zip them right back together and hit the slopes.

    • Waterproof and insulated three-in-one with multi-season versatility
    • Gore-Tex shell sheds off summer rains and heavy powder dumps
    • Down liner zips in for winter warmth and zips out for fall fashion
    • Pockets on shell and liner offer storage no matter how you wear it
    • Adjustable hood keep rain and snow out of your way
    • Secure storm flap keeps cold winds from creeping through the zipper
    • Compatible with other complimenting pieces from The North Face
    • Item #TNF03JA

    Very nice but...

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: XL
    • Height: 5'11"
    • Weight: 205lbs

I really liked the jacket, the fit and detachable hood were great. I'm 5'11 205 lbs and fit with a broad chest and shoulders so the XL was perfect. I wore it outside with my dog to try it out and it was WARM in teen degree weather. It was also comfortable. The thing I couldn't take was the swishing noise of the inner layer against the outer layer with almost every move. The Triclimate concept is great but that was too much for me. I returned it for a regular jacket.

    Lightweight but very warm

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: medium
    • Height: 6'0"
    • Weight: 165lbs

I bought this for a winter camping trip that was -10 degrees out. I was never cold and I was very surprised how lightweight the jacket was as well. My jacket did get a slight tear in it during the first use, but the backcountry customer service set me up to exchange the jacket in minutes. Great customer service as well!

    Nice all purpose jacket

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: XL
    • Height: 5'11"
    • Weight: 195lbs

I really wanted to keep this jacket but like another reviewer indicated the zipper gets stuck and will cause tears. Will search for something else.

    The perfect jacket for me

I was looking to replace my 14 year old North Face Summit Series Gore Tex shell, that I had matching zip in fleece liner for. The jacket has not worn out and is still waterproof, but I was tired of it and wanted something new, and wanted to stay high end so that it would last like the previous one.

I tried that very expensive Canadian brand, but I found the body tight, the sleeves very long, and the hoods enormous. Then I ordered the TNF 1990 Mountain Jacket, but when it arrived I realized it had NO hand pockets, something I never thought I'd need to check the spec on. It was so well made that I pictured me suffering without pockets for 20 years, so I returned it immediately.

I decided I should shop for one that came with the liner and then came across this. I live in NC where the winters are generally mild, so a minimal down liner and waterproof shell are perfect for this climate. It fits great, both the minimal down liner and the shell together and separately. and both look awesome. It even has hand pockets lol.

This is not all you would need on a cold northern day, this down jacket would be too thin for me there, but for where I live it's perfect and when I travel I will use more layers.

The NF Mountain Light Triclimate Jacket

This jacket is fantastic. The quality of the jacket is superb. And it is so unbelievably warm! The down liner is so nice, that I often just wear that. The other day I wore the down liner by itself while I was working outside in 30 mph winds with 25 degree temps, and I wasn’t one bit cold.

A lot of Money for what you Actually Get

So I had a Mountain Light jacket a long time ago and wanted to try this one. First off I will say this IS a good quality jacket, no complaints there. However, if you live in cold climates (upper Midwest or New England) you might be disappointed in the actual warmth of this jacket (part of the reason why I say that is because this jacket contains down...seriously how do you make a jacket that contains down NOT be warm??). When you buy this jacket, you are basically paying for the Gore-Tex outer shell, and a flimsy inner liner. Unless you are absolutely set on having a Gore-Tex shell, I would check out The North Face's 'Altier' 3-in-1 jacket. That one is MUCH warmer than the Mountain Light jacket, and it is about $100 less too.

Not saying this isn't a bad jacket, I do like it...I just think there are better options out there for the money you will spend on this jacket.

    Schwow!

When I first purchased I thought it was just another North Face jacket. But it was much more than that! It was.... like wearing the universe around my torso. The jacket fits like a glove! Amazing insulation, not too crunchy, yet durability is like wearing armor. Has lots of little features that make this jacket great; extra pockets both on the shell and puffy, 3 sets of zipper to ensure water won't get in, detachable hood, and the clips for the 3rd piece to say in place. I wouldn't hesitate getting this jacket!
