This trench is amazing! Classic (logo is hidden), warm pockets, heavier than your average rain coat. Possibly one of my favorite jackets ever.

This coat looks and feels classy. It's just a rain coat, no insulation (but there IS lining). This is a perfect Seattle/Portland sort of coat. I've been wearing it with layers underneath and absolutely love the way it looks. One of my favorite little features is the side waist straps - they aren't big or annoying, but they really change the shape of the coat so that it still gives you an hourglass shape, rather than looking bulky. That matters for my body shape, as I have shapes that easily make me look round and plump if my clothes aren't more form-fitting. It has a great feel to the material too, and it's not poorly-made. Thank you, North Face! I plan on wearing this until it's dead, which I don't anticipate will be for a long time.

    Smaller than other NF jackets

This was short waisted and tighter in the shoulders than my other NF jackets. I liked the simple style but didn’t work for me as I want to wear layers underneath

Dear coat, I wanted to love you, but...

I was REALLY excited about this coat and was initially thrilled when I put it on, as I've been searching for a longer, layerable rain coat for winter in Europe. First, the pros: It's a great, flattering shape. It's very comfortable, a good weight for mild but rainy winters and those wet fall and spring days. It's got a good feel, and the fabric of the dark gray option has a subtle texture that looks SO classy. I'm 5'8"/190lbs and ordered the XL, which had just enough room for my average hips/butt but not much extra. It was roomy (though not overly large) in the top except for the waist (more on the belt later). There's a lot to like (even love!) about this jacket, but for me the cons outweigh the pros. First, the zipper is one way. That's a dealbreaker for me. A coat of this length at this price point should have a two way zipper. It's just common sense that I'd like to sit down comfortably while wearing it. Second, the sleeves are weirdly long. I have long arms but the sleeves almost reach my fingertips, and it makes it weird to put your hands in the pockets since the fabric of the sleeves gets in the way. Finally, the strangest dealbreaker: the belt. As you can see in the photo, there's an adjustable belt in the jacket that snaps at the sides. You'd think the coat's loosest snap setting would be not (or hardly) cinched at all, but even the loosest snap setting has the jacket quite cinched up at the waist. This limits your ability to layer underneath the jacket. If the belt had a looser setting (it's long enough to have another snap setting, but no!), the coat would have plenty of room for a bulkier sweater or sweatshirt! Since the loosest setting is already a bit tight, it might as well not be adjustable at all. Overall, I like the jacket but I'm not willing to compromise on a two-way zipper and the belt is not as it should be. (Worth noting: if it weren't for the zipper, I'd keep the jacket and sew velcro onto the belt for a looser setting option.)

      nice, but runs small

This is a great-looking, lightweight jacket. However, as others have indicated, it does run small. I am usually a true-to-size medium with fairly narrow hips and broader shoulders and I found the jacket to be tight in both the hips and the shoulders. It is also a bit 'loud' as it does have a bit of a crunching sound when you move. Otherwise it's a beautiful coat, just not for me!

I was looking for a longer (mid thigh) length, trench style rain jacket that didn't have velcro. But this one was not right. For starters the material was weird - almost like a utility jacket and kind of velvety feeling. The sleeves were way too long, they went past my knuckles. The hood was impractical because it didn't go past my forehead and I would have had to hold it in place if it was windy. I read reviews before buying and decided to size up from my usual extra small to a size small. The body of the coat fit alright and it seemed that I could have even gone with my normal size - but the overall material, sleeves, and hood were a deal breaker.

I got the L size for my daughter. The size is true at it fits good. My daughter wanted a heavier / warmer one. I returned it

      • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

Gave as gift - feedback below:
"Fits true to size and the taupe green color is amazing - exactly what I wanted. It's great in the rain but i've also been using it as a winter jacket over layers and it works well that way too - I get a ton of compliments. Definitely recommend."

      Very flattering Very cute!!

This is a lightweight rain jacket that looks so nice. It is very flattering. I does run small. I normally wear a medium but I ordered this jacket in a large so it would fit well over sweaters, etc. The jacket fit nice over my t-shirt, but was too tight over a sweater. I reordered it in XL because I love it!

        Five stars

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This lightweight rain jacket is perfect for staying warm and dry in mild rain and cold. The material is comfortable and the water slides right off. Its length, both overall and of the sleeves, allow for near body-length coverage. Not at all bulky, it can easily be rolled compactly to save space in a travel bag.
