    Dome Away From Dome.

The fish are jumping, the hammocks are set up, and the only thing that’s left is to choose the perfect lakeside spot to pitch The Northface Homestead Domey 3 Three-Person Three-Season Tent. Getting the Domey set up and your sleeping situation dialed should take about three minutes, though, because the Domey’s super-simply single-wall design means you don’t even have to mess with a fly, and the three doors let everyone lay out pads and sleeping bags at the same time.

Although the Domey doesn’t feature a traditional fly, it does have a partial covering that seals up the airy mesh skylight and zip-up panels to cover the doors if it rains. The included Tentertainment center lets the crew enjoy a movie if the weather’s not cooperating, and The North Face’s top-secret SudStakes pull double duty as tent stakes and bottle openers, because it’s important to stay well-hydrated while you’re pitching camp.
    • A spacious car-camping shelter that’s fun and easy to use
    • Waterproof single wall design is waterproof and easy to set up
    • Three doors offer easy access to everyone
    • Mesh skylight comes with a small fly for rain protection
    • Tentertainment center keeps things fun when the weather isn’t
    • SudStakes double as bottle openers
    • Duffel-style stuffsack makes the Domey easy to pack up

After one windy trip, i'm impressed

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Wow, last weekend had 30 mph winds where we camped in the desert, and this tent was one of the few that actually didn't break. Not only did it not break, but it was also the only tent that didn't have sand blown in it the following morning, because the only open mesh panel is through the roof so I could look at the stars all night. I can't wait for the next camping trip!

    Not Sturdy

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Ordered this tent late January for a trip to Moab in May. The very first time I set it up, it was up for about 10 minutes, when some winds came through and almost blew the tent away. In trying to hold this tent down to keep it from being blown off (was fully staked), the tent poles bent and one snapped. This tent is not built for anything other than calm weather, so keep that in mind. In the process of trying to return for store credit or at least get some replacement poles and resell. Bum deal, $200 tent, and I slept in my car.

    Awesome Investment

So I largely made this review because many people have expressed the tent was difficult to set up. I got it up in about 10 minutes of trying. (Poles are color coded) So I’m not entirely sure what some other people were dealing with. My advice is to set up poles and rainfly before staking. It’s a spacious and awesome looking tent! Taking it to Utah this coming weekend!

Such a cute and functional tent!

I loved the print on the botanical option so I picked it up for my recent trip to Green River, Utah. It held up well and was super roomie for me and my friend. Easy and straightforward to setup, and so cute you won't even want to take it down!

      Desert Vibes

I ordered the desert/botanical print. It's pretty simple to set up and can be done by one person (and I'm a somewhat small gal). After setting it up I realized just how big it is! It's a 3-person but I know I could comfortably fit a 4th! I took this to Zion and if I had a dollar for every compliment on got on this tent, I could buy another one. Fit me, my mom, and aunt comfortable will lots of extra wiggle room. One of my favorite purchases from Backcountry.

      Outstanding Tent

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

      This is an outstanding tent.
I bought this tent for my daughter (10 years old) to use on scout camping trips (the last one I bought for her I liked so much I kept it for myself).
Last Friday it was used for the first time. Without prior setup or reading the instructions I was quickly and easily able to set it up by myself at night using a head lamp. I had a back up tent in case there were any issues.
Without using the instructions it is easy to figure out how to set up. Three poles, two of one colour, the third another colour. Three pole sleeves on tent, two of one colour, the third another colour.
Putting the poles into the grommets was easy. With that said I doubt my daughter and her tent mate would be able to do so.
The "rain fly", which covers the roof vent, attaches very easily. Again no instructions were needed because of the shape of the fly easily matches the roof contour.
We had a heavy one hour rain Saturday afternoon. When we returned to camp there was not one drop of water inside the tent. I cannot say the same for the unit tents that the scouts used.
I love the "clothes line" that runs along the inside of the roof. The "tentertainment" is a nice feature. The three doors are a plus. It makes it easy to retrieve gear from the tent without climbing over sleeping bags and packs...a plus with kids, no reason to find a muddy foot print on my sleeping bag. It also has three vents that are propped open with attached "props". Inside are three good size hanging organizers.
Here are my thoughts on a couple of the differences about this tent:
As stated in other reviews the doors zip down and lay on the ground/floor. At first I did not know if I would like this feature. After using it I like it better than doors that need to be rolled up and tied off above the opening or to the side of the opening. Frankly when it comes to this I am lazy, I'm not going to put the effort into rolling up a door and tying off.
The other difference is the storage bag. It does not pack from the end. The tent and poles are packed into the "side" of the bag and then the bag is drawn closed in the typical manor of an end loading bag. I like it, it'll be easier for my daughter to pack. Plus the bag is sized right, the tent packs easily inside.
The only thing I do not like about is it uses pole sleeves. I prefer tents that use clips to attach the tent to pole.

      love this tent!

Just wanted to share that some people have posted that it is hard to set up. I am a small human, and I set it up in a snap, so don't let that dissuade you. A great tent!

        Get Out There

Maybe your like me, a bit weird, maybe kind of different. So I love anything that is unique. I've grown up outside in Idaho pretty much my entire life. I've spent more time in a tent than most people I know!

I've been working at creating my ultimate glamping set up and I am so close! This tent really makes me feel like I can bring my hippy heaven anywhere!

I mean, you want this tent.
