    Keep the fire burning.

Your classic down sleeping bag may be fine for the dry climes of Colorado, but when you head to the damp forests of the Pacific Northwest or the misty mountains of Appalachia, you're going to want something a little more water-resistant. That's where The North Face Furnace 20 Degree Down Sleeping Bag comes in. Light and compact enough for backpacking missions, it's insulated with water-resistant down that's capable of keeping you warm in wet climates.

ProDown insulation delivers the same lightweight, high-loft warmth as regular down, but it's treated to absorb less water and dry faster so your comfort isn't compromised in soggy situations. And since down tends to lose its warming powers when compressed too much, The North Face also added a thin anti-compression layer of Heatseeker Eco synthetic insulation to the bottom of the bag. It fills any gaps in loft to provide superior thermal efficiency, and it adds further protection from waterlogged campsites. And since none of these features compromise the Furnace's packability, it's still a great choice for backpacking when wet weather isn't an issue.

    • Built for backpacking in cold, wet climates
    • ProDown 600-fill down is treated to be water-resistant
    • Heatseeker Eco on bottom of bag improves efficiency
    • Less tapered mummy shape for superior comfort
    • Vaulted footbox offers space to wiggle your toes
    • Draft collar prevents heat loss
    • RDS-certified down from geese that weren't live-plucked or force-fed
    • Item #TNF037B

    Great for backpacking

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This bag offers great warmth and packs down to a small size. It is pretty warm so it might not be the best for hot summer camping, but it is great for fall and spring.

    Warm Bag

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Took this camping and keeps you very warm. Only downside is that it is a big too long and not very convenient to use on backpacking trips.

    First Sleeping Bag

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

A great experience with the first sleeping bag purchase I have made. It kept me warm, comfortable, and ready for the cold morning. I would definitely recommend this, especially as a down sleeping bag!

    Waste of Money

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This bag is damn near worthless! It is NOT warm, despite what the rating says, it won't even keep you warm in 50 degrees (F), let alone 20... Also, the zipper is completely WORTHLESS - it's like they made this $150 bag with a 10 cent zipper, IT WONT EVEN GET STARTED!

I wish I had never bought this bag, I hate HATE hate it so much...
Soooo disappointed with The North Face...
    STICK WITH COLEMAN!!!!

Did you bother to contact TNF to ask for them to check the zipper and if the insulation somehow was not what they would expect for their products? I have never once found their customer service to be other than stellar. Best wishes.

I take my sleep seriously on the road

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I travel a lot on my motorcycle and conventional wisdom is to get the smallest possible bag to save space. I'm the idiot with a 30 inch wide roll and large sleeping bag you'll see riding by on the highway. It may be cumbersome to pack compared to some of those crazy expensive bags that pack into the size of a pair of rolled socks, but I don't care. I'm in my one man tent snoring away happily in this bag. Just make sure that when you get in you don't zip it all the way down or you'll be fumbling in the dark trying to put the zipper together letting in all the cold air. There's nothing like waking up in the morning toasty warm and well rested while the others are fighting with their minimalist set ups all night.

    Perfect backpacking bag

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I bought this for my backpacking trip to Havasupai this fall. I've taken it to the Sawtooths and Yellowstone. It rained and was cold both trips. This bag kept me warm and cozy the 4 nights I spent at those parks. Super light weight. Perfect for what I need.

    Desert Bag

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

If you are looking for a great desert bag during the spring and summer season look no further. this bag is fantastic. You won't over heat but wont freeze either. It packs down pretty small for a down bag but is a bit heavier than a synthetic.

    great bag

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

i bought a house with no heat and am still doing the remodeling--no heat yet. although i live in nm it does get chilly. this bag is wonderful. keeps me and two cats comfortable and warm.

    Warm and cosy!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Nice, warm and not too heavy. It's not the smallest one but I liked that my girlfriend and me wasn't cold in the night in mountains and that's the most essential thing! :) Also I want to admit very kind, professional and fast work of Customer Service during that purchase.

    Furnace is right

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This bag really is a little furnace. The down filling is amazing and this is my first real sleeping bag so far im very impressed. It packs up pretty small as well. Looking forward to getting some more use out of it!

    Down Sleeping Bag = Paradise

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Used this sleeping bag all over Alaska and Canada on a month long road trip. Very collapsible and easy to transport. After every long trek we went on through the mountains, I would always look forward to getting inside for a nice warm nap. Definitely worth the price! Don't think I'll ever purchase another sleeping bag... so solid. Taken it all over Washington recently as well. Perfect for spring/summer mountaineering in my opinion!

    Great Bag and warm!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Used it camping this spring and it is excellent at holding in heat. It was comfortable and compressed down very small, but didn't take it down below 40 degrees.

What size compression sack do you need for the long?

The North Face states that the stuffed volume of this bag is 9"x16", since this is the size before compression, the bag needs to be at least this big. These measurements correspond to the 20L size compression sacks, or a large size in some brands like ALPS Mountaineering.

    Unanswered Question

What is the size? It's listed as "regular" as the only order option but the specs details short medium and long. Is regular = medium?
