This was a good jacket, warm, heavy but not too heavy, and I liked the way it was built - plenty of pockets and good zippers, etc.
But I'm not very wide (kinda slender) and it kinda felt like a bag. I like my jackets to fit well and this was just a bit too loose for my taste. If I was going to layer with it then it would have been a great fit but that's it what I needed it for.
The North Face tag calls it relaxed fit (which makes sense) and according to the tag I would be more happy with this jacket if it would have been what they call 'active fit'.
But beside that, this was a good jacket.
Hope this review helps someone...

What is the weight of the fleece? is it 300 polartec?
I have a 44 inch chest and a 49 inch waist. what size denali jacket is recommended? I usually wear an XL. Does the Denali run large or true to size?
They run a little large
Get an XL. They run true to size.
My 2008 Style# A193 Denali fleece is...
My 2008 Style# A193 Denali fleece is substantially larger than the current AMYN Style. It fits extremely differently - the arms are much much more roomier. Did North Face change the fit of Denali's when they revamped them in 2009? There seems to be a whole size difference (the newer AMYN Style is smaller).

WHAT I HAVE FOUND ON BACKCOUNRTY .COM IS THE VARIUS GUIDE JACKET AND THE MT.LIGHT JACKET IS THAT BOTH HAVE THE ADAPTABLE SYSTEM LISTED UNDER THE DESCRIPTION SECTION.

My son is about 6'1" and weighs around 200 pounds. His waist size is a 36. I was going to order a large because that is what he usually wears. I heard these run small. What would be the best size for him?
If he usually wears larges I would say go with that, from the measurements you gave that is what I would have suggested anyways.
your best bet is to get his waist and chest measurements as opposed to height and weight. but based on the height and weight, probably large.

My husband is 6'4, 220lbs and his chest is a 46 in a suit coat... do you think the L or XL would be best? I dont want it to be too large... or too small. I keep reading the reviews on how it runs large. Thanks!
The large is for chest sizes 42-44. I would recommend the XL. If it turns out to be not what you want, we have a great return policy where we will either get you set up with a different jacket more to your liking or we will refund your money.
I'm 6', 195 and have around a 44 inch chest. however, I have some 46 suit coats and some 42 as different manufacturers apparently have different inches? anyway, sounds like your husband is just a little more stretched out than me, so I would guess large. if you actually measure his chest at it's largest point, you could get a better idea. but like William said it's easy to exchange wrong size with BC.

Is this Jacket compatible to use as insulation with the RTD Rain Jacket?
The RDT is not zip in compatible, unfortunately.
The following shells are zip in compatible:
Any TriClimate Jacket
Mt. Light Parka
Mt. Light Jacket
Best of luck!
lots of people, myself included, don't bother zipping or snapping in insulation layers. if you're in changing conditions, it's a hassle to hook everything up every time. if you have a shell you like, just make sure this fits under it without restricting movement.
Absolutely Chris. Great way to go.

I have a denali in Black. What would be a good shell to pair it with?
The Alpine Project Jacket is a Gore Tex Activeshell offering from TNF. I think it would pair up nicely. If you're looking for something less techy or more affordable and want to stay within the TNF family, the Varius Guide jacket works well.

Does the North Face Denali on this site use YKK zippers?
Hi Erika - yes, all TNF Denali fleece jackets use YKK zippers. If you get a "Denali" without them it can be one of the telltale signs of a knockoff.
Hello, i just ordered this in an XL mens....
i just ordered this in an XL mens. I have tried on a womens XXL in the store and it fit. Do you think it will be comparable to woomens XXL? And if not is it returnable?
The men's XL fits a chest size of 45-48 while the women's is 46-47. The men's XXL sleeve is 1/4" shorter. Those two measurements are close enough that you'll probably be ok. However, I think you'll find that the cut of the men's vs. women's Denalis are completely different. The men's will have much wider shoulders and torso in relation to the chest size. I don't think you're going to be happy with the fit.
Luckily, Backcountry has a great return policy. Try it on, leave the tags alone, and if it doesn't fit, contact Backcountry for a return authorization. They'll take it back.
What is exchange policy ?
What is exchange policy ?
Check the 'return policy', under the Shop column at (or near) the bottom of the page. Or start a 'CHAT NOW' session with one of the Backcountry reps. They should be able to help you with your question. Thanks.
The exchange policy is more of a return policy. Basically, return anything for any reason for life if you're not happy with it, and get all of your money back.

My son wants a North Face Denali jacket. He is 5 ft 9 in and 170 lbs. Should I order a medium or large. He does not want it too big but I don't want it fitting like a girdlle either. Who can tell me how tightly the denali fits on a teenage male?
Definitely a size MEDIUM. This jacket is cut long and large.

will the denali hook into my shell in the back of the neck and at the wrists? My shell doesn't allow for zipping in.
It sounds like you're describing the Columbia Interface tab system. Check out Columbia's Ballistic II.
Disregard the product description on the Ballistic, it doesn't zip in, it uses tabs. Check the back view pics for details
Hi Justin, yes the denali jacket is not only zip in but also snap in compatible. Hope that helps.
Does the Denali zip into any of the shells?...
Does the Denali zip into any of the shells? If so, which ones? I'm looking to get a shell as a gift for someone who already has a Denali.
Hey Al. According to TNF's site the Denali should be zip-in compatible with any of their shells. I don't have the Denali myself, but my Khumbu has the same zipper system, I believe, and it does fit any TNF shell. Hope this helps.
How long are the sleeves on this jacket?...
How long are the sleeves on this jacket? My arms are kind of long...
My arms are pretty long as well. I'm 5'10 and my sleeves are 34 in. It kind of depends on the width of your gut. You could go for a large but it may be baggy in the torso. I went for a medium and the arms are just right. You can try this on in most malls/sports stores because they are quite popular.
does anyone know how this jacket compares...
does anyone know how this jacket compares to the men's Super 200 Cresta Fleece jacket from L.L Bean? Apparently the cresta jacket is made with polertec wind pro, something this jacket is not even made with.
The Denali is a heavier weight fleece, but it is virtually worthless in blocking wind. That said, it is a good jacket that I own a couple of, but I generally either use them as a base layer under a shell, or on top of a windstopper. I don't know about the LL Bean gear, but TNF does make quite a few styles that also use Windstopper, and of course Mountain Hardwear makes some great pieces such as the Windstopper Tech. Hope that helps.
What temperature is this jacket good in?
What temperature is this jacket good in?
My boyfriend really liked this jacket, good for temps in the high 30's and above, it is not good in the wind.
I use mine as a layer on days as cold as -5 or -10 F. By itself 30s if its not windy.

The R probably means regular. But what does the TNF mean??? maybe the north face?
If you're talking about the color name, R is for RECYCLED and TNF is The North Face. The TNF in it really doesn't mean anything, but the R means it's made of recycled materials.

I've got an old Denali fleece I bought used so I have no idea how old it is, but its pit zips are much larger than they are on the model shown. Anybody have an idea what year that happened. I guess it functions better with a pack on.
