The Best of all the Duffels!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

First off, this is the best duffel from all the brands out there. I have all the major brands. It is durable, has backpack straps, and has a REAL POCKET. Other bags might be comfier on the back but it is hard to organize things since they do not have a nice side pocket. This bag is durable and I use it for everything from climbing to airline travel. Buy one if you need a durable duffel.

    Climbing Equipment & Clothes

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Yes, the zippers are stubborn and the shoulder straps are flimsy but simple to remove. But this is a duffel you can beat up on with no worries if it can take the beating = it CAN. Side pocket perfect for your shoes - climbing shoes OUT, approach/street shoes IN. Inside end mesh pocket perfect for GriGri and its carabiner. Room for all your equipment and a change of clothes. Oh, BTW: the mesh bag it comes in is perfect for storing your harness! The 71 liter size is good for travelling, since it bridges the gap between 60 liters and 90 liters in the Patagonia Black Hole duffel line. You might want to get this in an inobtrusive color so as not to attract the attention of the TSA or your airline re: size.
If you don't like the NF backpack straps for travelling, then get a Shoulder Strap and clip it, diagonally across the top of the bag, into the tough fabric loop nearest the fixation point for the NF backpack straps you removed before you departed for the airport. That's what I did........

    Strap Issue

I meant to add that the bag itself is great but in 2018 that strap system is ridiculous. That’s why such a low rating from me. If you’re never going to remove the straps and you’re used to North Faces zippers you’ll love it. Great looking too!

      Strap Issue

Typical North Face bag. Bulletproof, zipper a little hard to use (but in my experience never fails) and simple design inside. One big pocket basically which I like. The problem is the shoulder straps are annoying and slow to remove. Especially when you have to do it last minute boarding a plane. I knew this when I bought it from another review. No one to blame but myself but I should have returned it immediately for a bag with proper snap fasteners.

Simple solution: Get a Shoulder Strap and clip it, diagonally across the top of the bag, into the tough fabric loop nearest the fixation point for the North Face backpack style straps you removed before you departed for the airport.

        Like everything but the zipper

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I really love this duffel!! Its durable and comes in some many cool colors. The only thing I have a problem with is the zipper is not as smooth as I would like. The Patagonia bags are better in that regard but they are not as durable. Overall I would recommend this bag.

        Tough

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

These bags are so nice. They are the toughest things around. It is literally probably bomb proof, I didn't try it out but I am almost positive it is. I use it to put all my ski stuff in, and it fits everything boots, and all. I would highly encourage anyone to get this bag.

        Waterproof

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The tough nature build of this bag leads to confidence when traveling. This bag holds a solid amount of equipment. No matter what season and weather conditions, the heavy duty nature of the material leads to water resistance and rip stop protection. The handles on both ends of the bag and both the front and back make it easier to handle and strap down to a vehicle. The backpack straps are comfortable and provide a solid carry option.

I have used this bag to haul gear during a week long rafting trips. Not only were my clothes dry and dirt free, but the bag kept from ripping when thrown onto gnarly conditions. The outside ID card window is money when identify your bag at the airport. I highly recommend.

        Great bag

This bag is as well built as a duffel bag gets. The only problem I have is the zippers are a little sticky, but it could still be the newness. I took it through the airport and on a couple road trips, and I couldn’t be happier with it.

          Bomber!

          • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is my new go to bag for everything. I've used it on weekend camping trips, week long trip for work in which I had no issues with it being used as a carry on, and I use it as my craggin pack with short approaches the most which fits rope bag, harnesses, multiple pairs of shoes, double rack, food, and water for the day. Also, love how it is VERY water resistant, and keeps gear bone dry which is an added bonus in the summer in the SE when there is a chance for rain every afternoon.

          Quality

          • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is by far my favorite bag. The straps make it convenient to carry and the material is super tough.

I have seen people leave their gear out in the rain for a week in this bag and have it be totally dry.

          what you've been missing

          • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is the best bag in the world.
The medium (71L) size does fit in the overhead compartment on most airlines.
My go to carry on bag. My go to camping bag. My go to weekend bag.
My go to bag for everything.
Super durable and waterproof-ish (I wouldn't submerge it).

          MY NEW FAVORITE BAG

          • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I just used it on my first trip. It's a beast. It's huge! I got a similar smaller duffle/backpack Burton hybrid earlier this year but it was too small. Feels like its sturdy, built like a safe, has fat zippers, and so far comfortable with short carriers on the back. We will see about longer carries, as the shoulder straps aren't very substantial. The handles on the side and the end make moving it so easy.
It is so cavernous, it was hard to get to the bottom without messing everything up on top. I'm getting a bunch of organizers for future use.

          This bag is indestructible

          • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

If you're looking for a heavy duty bag that will keep your gear dry and protected, look no further than this duffel. Patagonia has a similar model in the Black hole duffel, but I feel that this bag is a lot more durable than the Patagonia equivalent.

It's really stiff at first and a bit heavy, but that's what you give up when you get something that is as durable as this item. It is just a standard duffel with shoulder straps to be worn as a backpack. And as it's 71L, you can fit a whole lot of stuff in the bag. It's super versatile -- use it on a river trip one week and a ski trip the next. It's a durable bag that will withstand anything.
