    Narrow shoulders

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'4"
    • Weight: 130lbs

This is my second arctic parka. I had the older version and loved it, so I was glad to see that an update was available. Based on reviews here and the sizing on TNF’s site, I ordered up a size versus what I’d worn in the previous model. I’m glad I did because the shoulders in this coat are oddly narrow (and I have very narrow shoulders so this is not something I run into all that often). For me, this means that the shoulders fit but the waist isn’t as fitted as it appears to be in the photos here (I really, really wish there was a way to cinch it) and the bottom is a little wider than I’d expected.

But it still looks good enough to keep it, it’s a great weight, I can wear it to work or to walk the dog and it feels appropriate, and based on my experience with the older model I expect it to hold up well. I tried it with a hat under the hood and don’t have any of the issues others have noted, but I think I might if I’d ordered the smaller size.

One additional note: while Backcountry lists it as a slim fit (maybe because of the shoulder thing?), TNF considers it standard fit.

    Love the coat but

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'6"
    • Weight: 150lbs

Love the coat, runs true to size. 150, 5'6 size medium. Fits perfect, little snug w big sweater underneath perfect w long sleeve. Downfall feathers coming out, shirt covered whenever I take the coat off. Looks beautiful but not a fan of feather and bottom zipper coming up.

    Nice jacket but

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'1"
    • Weight: 165lbs

I am usually a medium in almost everything. But north face jackets I've always been a medium. But when I ordered this, it was way too snug for me. It just fits me but zipping, was not easy. It was kinda tight around the shoulder blade and front like when you would reach down to pick up something. It was knee length for me. Im 5'1. But I must say, the employees when I do live chat have been AMAZING!! they make you feel comfortable

    I love it!

    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'4"
    • Weight: 125lbs

This is such an amazing parka! Its so chic and clean and the cinched waist is so flattering that it looks amazing even with layers beneath. The fur is detachable so if you prefer the looks of the coat witout it its an option. The 550 down and Wind resistant material can shield you from the bitter breeze this winter! 10/10

    Awesome parka

    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'3"
    • Weight: 128lbs

Based on the reviews, I wasn’t sure if I should go with a small or medium parka so I ordered both. The small fit a little bit tighter when I tried it on with a heavy sweatshirt underneath. The length was good but the sleeves and shoulders were tight. The medium I kept bc it was just most comfortable with a heavier sweater under. I’m in Chicago and winters get cold so It went right to my knees and the sleeves and shoulders were so much more comfortable.

    I just love it

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: XL
    • Height: 5'7"
    • Weight: 203lbs

I have to wear suit to work and I did not want for it to be tight and also look professional for work I also needed something that would keep me warm cause it can get very cold in Chicago this one do it all and love the style when I went back to get two more in different sizes for my daughters it was sold out will be looking for this one next year.

    yes

    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Small
    • Height: 5'2"
    • Weight: 108lbs

I love this coat! I think it runs a little narrow in the shoulders - if you tend to be on the larger side of your size I would size up. I'm usually an XS, sized up to a S - it's a little roomie but perfect for extra layers. Definitely a great item to have if you live in the colder northern climates

    Perfect for cold winters

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: XL
    • Height: 5'8"
    • Weight: 190lbs

I needed a heavier parka for Pennsylvania winters, and I found it! This is perfect for below 30 degree weather -- I tested that this weekend in Canada. It's a bit too warm for 30+ weather.

I'd say it is regular fit, not slim, but with the length, movement is a bit restricted beyond walking/sitting.

Would definitely recommend for a great, versatile winter parka.

    Elegant

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Height: 5'3"
    • Weight: 120lbs

This coat is perfect for any occasion. Weather I'm at the dog park or wanting to dress up and hit the town. I can always relay on this coat to keep me warm! It says its a slim fit, but i believe its a regular fit.

    Stylish and Cozy

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'2"
    • Weight: 140lbs

This parka is awesome! It is modern and sleek as opposed to the fluffy looking kind of parkas. The only issue I had was jumping into my husbands Tacoma with is zipped up, I had to pull it up to take a big step up, it is snug in the body so if you like space you would need to size up on this baby.

I am leaving my husband for this jacket!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'6"
    • Weight: 130lbs

I freaking LOVE this jacket!!!! It is super warm, stylish, and fits awesome! The fit is more flattering for a female waist, and I also love that the hood is removable. I also love that the main zipper has a double zipper system so that I can sit sit in my car in my parka and not feel too smooshed and not able to move my legs around. 10/10 would recommend to any fly lady looking for a rad parka for casual wear and light activities, such as dog walks or hiking. I would not personally want to ski or board in this jacket however... just not the right style for that.
(I bought a medium in the black and I feel that it fits TRUE to size!)

    Warm, Lightweight, Somewhat Stylish!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: XS
    • Height: 5'
    • Weight: 96lbs

I am pleasantly surprised by how lightweight the parka is. I bought Mackage and tried Canada Goose before but did not like how heavy they felt., as my movements felt very restricted. This parka seems warm. The zipper is actually smooth to me. I am 5', 96lbs, so the XS is a comfortable fit with room to wear thick sweaters. I wish the fur on the hood were a bit more full and would cover to the collar, not just the top half of the hood. I took out one star because of this.

That being said I added back one star for Backcountry's amazing customer service. After I received the parka, I noticed the TNF was selling the same parka for a bit cheaper. I contacted customer service and got price matched within a few hours. Thank you!!

    Adore this jacket

I absolutely love this jacket, wore it in Aspen CO in 6 degree weather and it held up great. Runs a little bit big and I would size down, but otherwise it is amazing. Very heavy duty and a little bit on the heavier side for weight from the insulation but if you are wanting to be warm it is awesome. Pretty long as well, I am 5'7 and it hit my knees.

      Wide Flare

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: XS
      • Height: 5'4"
      • Weight: 100lbs

This is a very warm coat. I purchased this to wear for a winter trip to Amsterdam and Berlin where temperatures average 40F - 20F. Considering the insulation, this is still a very slim-fitting coat. The only drawback is that the flare is substantially wider than the photos show. Or at least, it was for someone of my build.

Most importantly, Backcountry's customer service is AMAZING. I'm going to purchase all my gear from here moving forward.

      Height: 5'4"
      Weight: 100lbs
      Chest: 30AA
      Size Purchased: XS

      Great purchase

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: Small
      • Height: 5'4"
      • Weight: 140lbs

You will not be disappointed with this jacket. It is so warm (so warm), very cute (the gathered sides make it very flattering) and it runs true to size. The double zipper is handy for when I need to squat down to help my little ones or sitting in the car for long trips. I am SO glad I purchased this jacket.

      Great affordable parka

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: Runs large
      • Size Bought: Small
      • Height: 5'5"
      • Weight: 125lbs

I bought this jacket for sub-30 degree days and it does not disappoint. I wore it today in NYC where it was 5 degrees F with a real feel of -15. It keeps your body warm and protects from the wind.

I am 5'5 and 125 pounds and I got a small. I did not try on the XS but probably would fit as well since this one has a lot of room, good for layering. I will say that it is a 'bulkier' jacket (as expected with a warm parka). If you are looking for a more slim fitting jacket this may not be the one for you but it still looks great.

I would suggest this jacket to anyone who is looking for quality in the $300 range.

      Perfect

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
      • Fit: True to size

I would give it more than 5 stars if possible. I have drooled over it for some time and found the best price on Back Country so finally pulled the trigger. It is everything I could have asked for. Runs true to size, love the fitted waist, the cuffed sleeves are so nice, dark navy....not one of those "navy...really?" colors you can get sometimes, hood fits, very comfortable, warm. I could go on and on. Timely delivery. Will be back for more.

      Horrible Zipper

$300 says you can't get the zipper to zip with the first five tries.
for a cold weather jacket, you might actually want your customers to zip up.
ended up using the buttons instead.
while my friends were all hiking, i was struggling with the zipper.
and the longer i struggled in the cold weather, the more my hands were frozen.
even my $89 parka has a better zipper than my NF parka.
so incredibly disappointed and feel incredibly ripped off.
