Apex STH Pant

They can't all be epic powder days, and honestly you wouldn't want them to be. Sometimes it's nice to just enjoy the bluebird weather and cruise around the resort, and The North Face's Apex STH Pant is the perfect pant for the job. Its breathable softshell fabric is completely windproof for those days when it seems like the jet stream's been redirected at your chairlift, and offers water-resistant protection when your perfect weather gets a little snowy. The Chimney venting system releases heat when you're working hard on the bumps, and the StretchVent ankle gaiters keep snow from getting in when you stumble upon a glorious pow stash from last week's storm. A cozy fleece backer delivers a soft feel through baselayers for added warmth, while a zippered waist pocket stashes a pass or trail map.

  • A lightweight softshell for bluebird days at your favorite mountain
  • Windproof fabric stops cold wind when you're ripping groomers
  • Water resistant treatment keeps you dry in moderate snowfall
  • Chimney venting system releases heat after tiring tree runs
  • Ankle gaiters keep the snow out when you hike for better lines
  • Light fleece backer offers a cozy feel and added warmth
  • Secure waist pocket lets you reach for a map when you lose your way
  • Adjustable waist tabs let you customize your fit

I have been using these in the resort and the backcountry. I'm extremely happy with them. They are very warm. I just wear a light base layer, and I'm golden. I have used a synthetic and a merino. I was nervous that the merino would catch on the fleece, but it was fine. The fit is spot on. Nice and snug, doesn't move around. I love the stretch for ski touring, as it makes for a long stride. For the resort, I think they are pretty perfect for all weather, except a day of heavy storming, because they are not water proof. On warmer days in the backcountry, they are technically too warm, but I'm not complaining as I don't like to get cold. I don't mind the minimal pockets, probably because I have the Brigadine jacket that has all the pockets you could ever need, plus two. So, I'm cool with that. A thigh pocket is always nice for your phone, but could also weigh the pants down. So, I'm chill with how these are designed. The fit is spot on. I'm a medium typically and they fit like a glove.

I wore these for the first time touring the other day. I don't have a ton of experience with ski pants, but I like the way these fit. They are slim. It was around 35 degrees and I was plenty warm. I never really got too hot, even touring up hill. There is only one small pocket, which I didn't think I would need until I went touring. So that is a consideration. I had to have them altered, so not sure if this would be the same for everyone, but they were a little snug around my boot.

I usually wear a 24-0 in pants but did get a 2 in these and had no problem with fit. I can fit a thin base layer under them but honestly the warmth they provide (I used for hiking and xc skiing) I felt I didn’t need it. I’m only 5’1 and only had the regular available so they are long on me. Since I’m so short I didn’t have an issue with the rise. I really like these and they kept me warm and dry. I have a pic of the first try on before wearing them out for fit. I love how they are actually fitting and not oversized or bulky.

Favorite ski pants ever

These pants are incredibly comfortable (for ski pants) and warm. Love the fleece lining and the flattering fit - very slimming. I didn’t need a base layer, even when it was 10 degrees.

As far as softshells go, these are pretty good! They come up higher than most ski pants out there and have a decent amount of stretch which makes them very comfortable. Fleece lined too so they are warm. Not waterproof (since they are a softshell) but keep most of the moisture away. I would not recommend if you ski/ride in heavy wet snow as you will eventually get wet and cold. Since they are fleece lined it makes it near impossible to get them on over baselayers. And pockets? You might be able to fit a credit card for a few bucks in that pocket but that it is. Wish there were more. Made more for resort skiing, would not recommend for backcountry touring because of the stretch, they will eventually fall down and there are no belt loops. Otherwise, they fit like a thick pair of yoga pants with ankle gaiters and are VERY comfortable!

I bought this for my wife since she wants a "slim" pant for ski. This just the right fit she wants, slim at upper part (thigh) and have the right room at the lower part for the boot. It has a little bit stretch when you bend down, it doesn't have anything to hold a "belt" or adjust for waist, but just the right size for her.

Ski pants are intended to have a high waist so snow doesn't fall down your pants. The waist on these pants is very high, which is fine with my long-legged, short-waist body, but there is not any stretch, so when I bent over, the top button came unsnapped. Based on my measurements (31 inch natural waist and 40 inch hips), I got a size 10, which just fit, but given the non-stretch and the fact that I like to wear a base layer, means these won't work for me. I'll consider going up a size, but I'm afraid they would be too big.

I am 5'5" 148 lbs. Initially I ordered a 6 because i typically wear 4-6. I could barely get them over my thighs. I returned these and sized up to a 10. I want room underneath for a thick base layer.

These pants fit terrible! I am 5'7" 140lbs, I originally ordered my size which is size 6 and they would barely fit around my waist, so I ordered the 8 and while they did finally button, I could not sit down without the buttons popping open. Interesting because the crotch and legs were super baggy on me, which makes sense because I am a size 6. I will not be purchasing north face ski pants again.

These pants are warm but without bulk. I adore the figure flattering tight stretch fabric. NOTE: The fit does give a little, so if you're between sizes you might want to buy the smaller option.
