Fend off the elements.
Cruise the streets in confidence all year long in The North Face's Apex Flex GTX Insulated Hooded Jacket. Whether you have an uninspiring midwinter walk to work, or you're determined to take your pooch for a hike when the weather is less than friendly, this warm jacket has you covered.
The three layer Gore-Tex shell beads water to keep you dry, with fully taped seams to prevent any moisture from sneaking in. The Apex Flex is filled with Heatseeker insulation, which has an impressive warmth to weight ratio and is highly compressible. - Q & A
Was looking for almost exactly this.
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
- Fit: Runs large
- Size Bought: XL
- Height: 6'2"
- Weight: 220lbs
I was trying to find something to replace an older Summit Series jacket that I absolutely loved, but I needed something not quite as warm with a bit more "plain" appearance for wearing to work, etc.
I live in MN, and have been seeking the "do it all" jacket that is still warm enough to sit in a car before it warms up when it's below zero, but not so warm I can't run in and out of a store without having to take it off. It was already hovering around 0 this November, and while the jacket was not as warm as the summit, it put a dead stop to the brutal wind that glazes across the Minnesota plains, this was impressive.
The fit was a bit too bulky for me, and like some other reviews I have seen, I would say it runs a bit large. I am 6'2", 220, usually wear a 17x36 shirt. The sleeves are plenty long, which is great for driving, reaching, and other activities, but the bulk in the mid-section is more than a bit much, hence the 4 instead of 5 stars.
I have already used the pit-zips, which are a must for any jacket that could be considered "go anywhere" in my opinion.
Great all-around jacket , hoping the zipper holds up better than the Summit series I had.
