Comments on quality products

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This brand has gotten worse. From having excellent products, like the 2000 Gore-Tex Mountain Jacket (I bought it earlier that year) with a zip-in, it has gone on to offer poor products. IN my old mountain jacket I have a hole in the sleeve, caused by the wear of the velcro (using Velcro is its only defect), I sent it to the technical service to repair it and they offered me a free exchange for a new one. What did I tell them? That they give me back my old jacket.

Great design but heavy, no breast pocket, dislike hood cinch

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am 6'1" 190 lbs, the XL fits with or without a thermal layer underneath. I am thrilled they revived this design but mostly I wish they had updated the hood cinch and wish that the original smaller breast pocket inside the main zipper fold was included, it is not. The brick color is drab, I like the older bright red for safety in the backcountry. Also, the zippers for a zip-in fleece are not necessary--I never used them over 20 years with my first couple coats--which would cut down on weight. The mesh liner is antiquated and heavy; modern material doesn't need it. Thankfully there is no powder skirt and the waist cinch is something modern coats could use. I'm also glad there is not a fleece chin patch, which is a common "feature" on modern jackets: the chin patch is like velcro for anyone who doesn't shave every day. The main pockets are not Napoleon, which is the main reason I bought this design over the fad that every other manufacturer has followed: the contents of Napoleon pockets slide out when you bend over during BC ski transitions and boot adjustments. Ideally the pockets need zippers through to the inner layers to be perfect--I keep most of my all-day stuff in my mid-layer which is hard to get to from the main middle zipper. Two zippers on the main opening mean that you can open it as a poncho or allow for easier leg movement when climbing or skiing steeper terrain. It is also helpful for pit stops. The snaps are also important--and have been eliminated on modern models--because the coat can vent without using the zipper in wet and/or cold weather. Thanks TNF for bringing it back! If only had a few tweaks it would be perfect.

Don't buy if you want a zip in liner to fit.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] None of the other jackets zip into this one like they did on the original. The zippers are different than the original version. It's not very warm without a liner.

The BEST

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Purchased the gold mountain and it is better then the original 94 gold mountain. The construction and material feels and looks top notch and much more quality then the original 94. The gold is the best colour IMO. The vibrant yellow stands out on the slops and people kept approaching me about how cool the jacket is! I just came on to do the review and notice the gold is gone. Come on TNF, continue the vibrant colours of the early 90s! Enough with these earth tones that sit on racks for ages. The zip in works with ALL TNF zip in fleeces, not just denali. I have been using an old fleece that came as a zip in for another TNF Jacket from 2004. All in all this mountain 94 is the best of TNF. Better then the 2019 Mountain light. Fit is perfect. I found the 2019 reissue to be short. This version of the 94 mountain is perfect. Give us more of the early 90s vibrant colours TNF. Stop the earth tones.

Gold mountain light jackeg

Amazing. The gold is exactly like the original from the 90s; my fave nf mountain colour. Release more mountain lights in the gold! Zip in any nf fleece jacket. Qualify is outstanding and even better then the original 90s version. I got a denali orange 95 fleece too and the colours go awesome together but can also use an older nf black fleece i have that zips in too. WORTH THE PRICE. Release more in the gold! Enough with these earth tones! Give us more of the original vibrant colours from the original 90s run!

Yes I would purchase this jacket again.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Definitely a must have nostalgic piece and very work as protect you from rain/wind. I pair my with a matching nuptse , 1995 retro fleece or nuptse vest and you are good to go. Can wear the shell in spring if you layer you can wear everything in the fall and winter. Must buy. Currently I have almost every color. I hoping they rerelease the 1990 mountain jacket.

Great jacket/some improvements that'd help

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This coat is a classic silhouette and perfect for serious outdoor activities or just looking good while you stay dry on a rainy/snowy day. It cuts the wind well. It's made to be a a 90s cut so if you want it more fitted, you can probably size down one. Design-wise, I wish they would make little changed like making the chest pocket zipper zip from bottom to top so it can be open slightly but still hold your goods (it currently zipped from bottom to top so bottom is open if it's half zipped). Also, think they should update the armpit zips by putting the same mesh lining that's inside the jacket over inside those armpit zippers so the jacket holds its form under your arms when you are cooling off. Otherwise, w classic and you can't really go wrong.
