Clouser Fly Rod

Bob Clouser is something of a legend in both the saltwater and freshwater theaters of fly fishing, so it's no surprise that his newly redesigned TFO Clouser Fly Rod is versatile enough to fish both fronts. Its fast action feel is great whether you're chucking minnows to redfish or throwing heavily weighted streamers to big trout lurking in the riffles. The newly redesigned taper of the Clouser makes the rod powerful enough to cast weighted lines and wind-resistant flies, yet still delicate enough to protect your leader from thrashing reds and ripping rainbows. As importantly, the components on the Clouser are highly versatile, with a machined aluminum reel seat that will tolerate saltwater environments and durable snake guides that are composed of chromium impregnated stainless steel. Each handle is made from Flor-grade cork and has burled accent rings, giving the rod a rich and recognizable look.

Solid Rod

I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I picked this up as a gift for a friend. He said the TFO Clouser is great for throwing heavier and wind resistant flies. The rod casts like a dream a country mile. Landing fish is a piece of cake with the butt end to work with. Great rod overall.

Love this rod!

I've used it several times

I bought this rod for fishing the salmon fly hatch on the Deschutes River in Oregon and it really came through. No problem turning over those huge foam bugs and plenty of backbone for fighting them in current. I caught tons of redband rainbows and my first bull trout. Next I'll be chasing smallmouth on the Columbia with it.

great rod and warranty

I've put it through the wringer

This a great rod. The 9ft 5 wt can do it all!

Great trout rod

I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

Gave this rod to a buddy who is just starting out. I own two TFO's and love them, amazing performance at the price (and in general). I'm sure this rod will serve him and you well!

Great streamer rod

I've fished this rod in the 8'9" 6 wt many times now. It is great for throwing heavily weighted flies or sink lines. I can throw articulated flies on a 200 grain line no problem. The action is a little slower on this rod than most of today's streamer rods. At first I didn't think this rod had very much power, but you just need to slow your cast down a bit. I do prefer slightly faster action for my streamer rods, but this rod gets the job done nicely.

Excellent Rod

I've put it through the wringer

I bought this 6 wt rod a few years ago to fish trout, grayling and salmon. I love the four piece design, making it easy to pack on the plane. It's tough, putting up with regular multi-day rafting/fly fishing trips throughout Alaska without any issues. Overall great rod for the price.

Looking at the 9' 5wt version of this rod. is this rod geared more towards bass in open lake or trout in smaller rivers or streams. how does it compare to the TFO BVK?

Great question! What is your intended use for the rod? Both the Clouser and BVK are fast action rods (i.e. tip flex) with comparable butt sections, however the Clouser is more of a presentation rod that has a softer tip that will allow the rod to load easier and shock less. It was designed by Bob Clouser to be able to easily turn over weighted flies like the Clouser Minnow. The BVK is a bit of a better all-around rod (if you are looking to fish for trout and bass, and plan on presenting streamers, nymphs and dries). The BVK is designed more as a distance and accuracy rod and it intended to be fast and light. It's very responsive, and has the power to turn over large flies and fight big fish, but can easily deliver small dries with precision and ease.
