Home is where you park it.
Tough as nails and convenient as hell, the Tepui Kukenam Ruggedized 3-Person Tent goes anywhere your off-road vehicle does. It mounts to almost any roof rack and pops up easily to create a spacious shelter in mere minutes, so you can spend less time setting up camp and more time exploring your surroundings. From weekend retreats in the woods to exotic safaris, this rugged tent is ready for any adventure.
Burly fabrics and a heavy-duty frame help it withstand raging winds and torrential downpours, while no-see-um mesh screens and Sky panels keep cool air flowing on stuffy nights without inviting in the local insect population. It includes a high-density foam mattress to offer a luxurious (at least by camping standards) sleeping experience, and it also eliminates the need for huffing and puffing into an inflatable pad when you get to camp. An anti-condensation mat under the mattress keeps things from getting damp when you're exploring the Pacific Northwest, while tie-down anchor points keep everything locked down when you're posted up in exposed mountain ranges. And when it's time to hit the road, the ultra-rugged travel cover material protects the tent from highway debris and rough weather.

- Q & A
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
Unpacking: The tent came boxed up and pre-assembled with the exception of the ladder and rails for mounting the tent on your car. The rails are pre-drilled and easy to install using the instructions that come with the tent. It took me about an hour from unboxing to getting everything on top of my SUV and tightened down. The tent comes with instructions and there are some great tutorial videos on the Tepui website if you need more clarification. There were some metal shavings inside the tent from the manufacturer drilling the aluminum base and attaching the tent brackets. This was fairly easy to clean up using a brush and dust pan.
Setup and take down: Once the tent is installed, the set up takes maybe five minutes. You simply unfold the tent using the ladder, then prop open the window flaps. That's it. More time is needed to attache the annex, which is simple enough considering you zip it onto the base. The initial setup of the annex may take twenty minutes, but subsequent setup takes only a few extra minutes. Take down is just as simple. The hardest part of getting ready for the road is zipping on the weather proof bag on top of the tent. It isn't difficult, just a little awkward getting the zipper started across the vehicle roof. I even managed to keep my sleeping bag inside the tent when I folded it, which frees up more space in my cargo area.
Quality: This tent is solid. The canvas is thick and weather resistant. The stitching is made with heavy thread and seems to withstand lots of stress. The base is a solid aluminum with steel hinges and brackets. All the zippers and flaps are easy to use and look like they will hold up to years of use. The foam mattress was incredibly comfortable. It is firm yet supple and forgiving where it counts most. I typically sleep on an inflatable sleeping pad directly on the ground, so the foam mattress is a great upgrade for me.
Warmth: We used this tent starting in April in northern Utah and it was plenty warm even with nighttime temps getting into the 40s. There are two doors and two windows, but with all the flaps closed, you cannot feel any chill coming from the outside. I will most definitely be using this tent during every season.
Annex (sold separately): This is made with the same quality canvas and stitching as the tent. The floor is a rubberized zip on accessory that blocks any moisture from getting into the annex. It is a great place for us to change or get out of the weather when needed. The annex could even sleep a couple of adults if needed.
PROS: Easy install, setup, and takedown. Great warmth attributes. Quality craftsmanship and materials. Comes with everything you need without requiring modifications.
CONS: High cost for a tent. You need a roof rack or equivalent. Getting the tent on top of a vehicle is a challenge.
back country comes through again
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
This tent is amazing and so easy to set up and on top of that, back country employee Christian came through for me when i ordered this tent and had a miscommunication about willcall vs shipping - unbelievable service - Christian drove this to me on his way to his personal vacation. Back Country always comes through with incredibly fast shipping and customer service at the right price.
ONTIME EVERYTIME / TEPUI
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
This tent was and is amazing. Super easy to set up. After taking my son down to Southern Utah, I tripped up and twisted my ankle. Little guy was so able to set the tent up at 12 yrs old. Sleeps wonderful. Looking up at the ski thru the sky dome was so legit. During this, one night, my son wakes up at like 1am, goes DAD, we are sleeping on top of the LR3, I go yes. He says, well lf the LR3 is on airbags, and the tent in top of the LR3 does that mean we are in a airbed. You cant help but to laugh! Love Love Love the tepui tent. Makes for great camping and of course, you are off the ground. Easy access, easy cleanup, ready to go. I will say, the first time setting it up, it seemed tough, but by the 3rd time, like I mentioned, my son was able to handle it on his own.
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
Easy set-up, fits most standard car racks, WAY better then setting up and tearing down a tent everyday when you're on the road.
