Why We Like The Zero G Tour Pro Alpine Touring Boot

Tecnica's Zero G Tour Pro is a lightweight alpine touring boot that doesn't skimp on downhill performance. As Tecnica's premier backcountry boot, the Zero G Tour Pro provides us with the stiffest flex available at a weight lower than three pounds thanks to the carbon-infused Grilamid construction. Tecnica's C.A.S (Custom Adaptive Shape) system dimples the boot's shell so boot-fitters can mold it to your foot's shape more precisely. We really like that Tecnica updated the boot with a Recco reflector, and still outfitted it with the tried-and-true double-hitching walk mode latch that stays secure in ski mode and maintains an outstanding 55° range of motion in touring mode.

Excellent touring boot

If you’re looking for a lightweight touring boot that skis like an alpine boot, look no further. They are super stiff but tour flawlessly. There’s only a couple caveats. There is no cuff canting feature to adjust the cuffs. They aren’t as comfortable as my K2 mindbenders, feeling pressure along the inside ankle/foot and it’s unfortunate I can’t adjust them appropriately. I have a low instep and the 4 buckle is the only way to go for me. Just wish the cuffs were adjustable.

Stiff touring boots!

Both my husband and I own these. We are very different weights, boot sizes, and skiers, and we both love the uphill and downhill performance of these boots. So far, we have not found any other touring boot that is as solid as this boot. My husband wears a 27.5 and is a former racer. He sized up for what he would normally wear in an alpine boot (race or freeride). He says that the performance and stiffness of the boot make you have confidence in your ability to ski down anything with these. You don't have to worry about making a softer turn to accommodate a soft boot. They are light, have great range of motion, and easy in/out of walk mode. He has used both the stock liner and an intuition liner in these. I wear a 22.5, which is consistent with my alpine boots. If you have a high arch/instep, these might be a bit difficult to get on but are true to size once your foot is in. The performance uphill and downhill is spot on. It's really nice to not have to get a soft women's-specific boot for once. The only con is that the lightweight "loop" buckles are hard to buckle when your hands are frozen.

Stiff & Comfortable

Amazingly light and comfortable out of the box! Only spent 2 days in them so far but I?m very pleased. No hot spots at all on first tour of 7 miles and 3k elevation gain. The only issue I experienced was forward lean. They are a little more upright than my regular resort boots and I initially noticed that I was a bit on my tails during the downhill. I adjusted the forward lean from 12 to 13 and then added the cuff spoilers (provided). That made a big difference and I?ve subsequently replaced the stock spoilers with slightly thicker Full Tilt brand spoilers. Haven?t skied with those yet but the boot feels much more balanced and much more like what I?m accustomed to now.

Perfect weight / performance balance

Bought these for a recent backcountry trip. Conditions were quite crusty due to recent rain event and these boots performed phenomenally. I have a pair of Scarpa Alien RS which are also great (like wearing sneakers) but that would have been unbelievably tough in heavy crust conditions like we faced. Once you get used to the Scarpa's you can take them down most anything but it just is not as fun once the terrain gets more challenging. The Zero G's were very easy on the uphill (light and decent flex) but just awesome on the downhill. Not sure I would call it a 130 flex but it does the trick and really buckles down well. As for sizing - the 28.0 Scarpa Alien RS fits me perfectly and I went with the 27.5 zero Gs which fit great too. The 27.5 zero g has a much longer foot base than the 28.0 Aliens so it just required some slight binding adjustment to swap between the two. I generally run in a 10.5 trail running shoe (Saucony and Saloman) if that helps anyone working on sizing questions.

Light, Stiff, and Oh So Right!

Familiarity:

You might by now know the legendary status of these boots - if you don't - just watch any ski mountaineering/ free touring film in the past year and a half and you will find at least one of the athletes rocking these boots. They are built to do exactly as they are intended - be as light as possible, while still offering a stiff and truly strong progressive 130 flex. - These boots absolutely charge. - They are as light as you are gonna get in the weight class. The weight savings on the buckles, and grilamid plastic, makes them feel light on the approach. - Carbon reinforced provides that stiff strength. - Simple and usable walk mechanism that locks and stays put - no icing up here. And if they do, you can get at it. - Great range of motion for a 4 buckle overlap boot. - Easy to get in and out of (relatively) and the liners out of the box are, in my opinion, fantastic. The game has changed.
