It doesn't skip a beat.
When it comes to high-intensity adventures, there's very little that the Suunto Spartan Sport Wrist Heart Rate Monitor can't handle. The Spartan's multi-sport versatility (80 sport modes) allows you to transition from a dawn patrol session with friends to interval training in the afternoon. The Spartan has an 8-hour energy capacity when in Full Power use, and it's able to maintain a 12-hour energy capacity when set to Power Save mode.
To differentiate itself from the rest of the smart watch lot, the Spartan features a built-in heart rate monitor that tracks your resting and engaged BPM. Additionally, the Spartan has a GPS/GLONASS tracking and route navigation feature, complete with a real-time breadcrumb trail, route navigation, and points of interest. Ultimately, this winning combination makes the Spartan ideal for those seeking a do-it-all watch.
In regards to training, the Spartan has a 30-day training summary that's located on the watch, as well as a long-term analysis, training load trends, PTEs, and HR zones. To read more, simply upload the Movescount app to your phone or computer and read them and weep (or don't). Additionally, the Spartan has rest and recovery suggestions to help you make the most of your training, while the progress recognition component tracks and logs PBs sport by sport. The Spartan also has 24/7 monitor that tracks calories, steps, heart rate (resting and active), and the watch face is totally customizable, offering a personalized touch to an otherwise automated machine.

Upgrade from a previous Suunto
- Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
My brother had a Suunto Ambit 3 Sport and says this is a big upgrade from it. He likes how they changed the interface and the information you can see while exercising, the number of sports and battery.
A lot going on here!
With over 80 preintalled sport modes and varying levels of battery saving modes coupled with hr and multi sport capabilities, this watch was a little complicated at first and took some getting used to from the ambit 3 peak that I have used for nearly a year. As the other reviewer said, you also have to keep the watch very tight or speed and hr are way off, I wondered what happened after a few runs when I was going well below my perceived effort. After about a week of playing around ad getting used to the controls and dialing in the settings, I feel like I have a training supercomputer on my wrist. From uploading gps courses to tracking my location in real time, I have been quite impressed with the accuracy and capabilities of the spartan sport. This is defiantly a step up from the ambit 3 as far as features and function go, but it took me a bit longer to get used to and adjust. Suunto is making strides towards the perfect sports training watch!
Packed with functions but not perfect.
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
This watch is so packed with functions it will take you some time just to go through them all but that is not necessarily a bad thing. I mainly use the watch for running. The GPS tracking is really accurate and picks up signal fairly fast the display is large and easy to read. This is my first wrist heart rate monitor watch I was a bit hesitant about using one as I have read mixed reviews about them this one seems to be fairly accurate as long as you keep the watch tight to your wrist. The battery life is really good even in full tracking mode unfortunately the charger is specific to the watch so if you lose it or forget it on a trip your not going to be able to charge it which is unfortunate a usb type c would have been nice in my opinion.
All in all this watch is really nice and I would totally recommend it to anyone looking for a good multi function sports watch.
