    Lightweight feel, hefty performance.

Don't let the Stoic Women's Merino Lightweight Bottom fool you into thinking it's anything but a heavy-hitting performance piece. This merino baselayer may feel feather-light but it packs a hefty punch when it comes to temperature regulation. Merino wool not only wicks away moisture and dries quickly (naturally regulating your body temperature), but it's also anti-odor, which means you're able to transition from the slopes to the lodge bar in stride.

    • A lightweight baselayer pant for aerobic pursuits
    • Merino wool provides low-profile warmth
    • Wool also wicks away moisture and dries quickly
    • Regular fit provides unimpeded mobility

    These run really tight

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Small
    • Height: 5'6"
    • Weight: 115lbs

I bought two pairs after checking the size chart, and was surprised when I could barely move once I got them on. I'm 5'6", 115lbs with 36" hips and while the waistband fit, these were like wearing an exceptionally tight pair of skinny jeans (practically shrink-wrapped on). I don't know how I could be active in something so tight as they restrict my movement. They're going back. I will continue to buy Icebreaker instead.

Pretty good option for LW merino

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: M
    • Height: 5'8"
    • Weight: 140lbs

I want really to give this 4.5 stars. Very good but could use 1-2 improvements.

Pluses: in M it weighs 5.2 oz. It really is lightweight! The merino definitely is thin and in spots slightly see through...for me a good thing for the applications I'm using it for (ultralight thru hiking- sleeping/hiking on cold days). Definitely still keeps some warmth but breathes/non stinky (I've gotten rid of my UNIQLO heattech for these reasons).
    Price is on point! Word.
Minuses: Still too short! It is definitely longer than comparable leggings from smartwool, icebreaker, etc (I've tried all the standard brands except ibex, which is out of business, including some random ones only available in NZ/Australia)...these would be amazing if 1-2" longer. Or maybe even had like 5% spandex. I don't know what other people do! I'm not incredibly tall at 5'8"/32.5 inseam, but no one seems to make leggings for people with longer legs. I had a pair from stoic a few years back that ended up being too baggy, but the length was great. Cannot locate this version though.
Spandex also would help with the longterm use of this I think- just a little worried on the longevity of the thin wool, and also if it will stretch or not in situations where I'm hiking in these day in/day out.

All in all, I think these are probably your best ultralight option these days for merino leggings for women. I am a hiker with about 6000 mi under my belt, looking forward to using these on SHR later this summer and some other shorter hikes.

    Comfortable and Warm

I gave this as a gift to a relative that needed a lightweight base layer for fishing in Alaska. They are comfortable and warm. They found them to be a little scratchy but they have extremely sensitive skin and didn't find them to be unbearable.

      Great go-to baselayer

      • Fit: True to size
      • Height: 5'7"
      • Weight: 140lbs

Merino wool for the win, again. I usually wear it underneath another layer with my gore-tex pants for resort skiing. Great thin layer for getting sweaty in the backcountry too!

      Great leggings

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
      • Size Bought: Large
      • Height: 5'2"
      • Weight: 170lbs

Needed a lightweight base layer legging in a pinch and on a tight budget. Grabbed these and I am not disappointed! They are very soft, comfortable and warm. My second Stoic brand purchase and I have to say I'm very happy with both pieces that I have. Great brand.

      A Solid Lightweight Baselayer

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: XS
      • Height: 5'2"
      • Weight: 110lbs

I was introduced to the world of base layers last year and as someone whose body temperature is either too cold or too hot, I am really glad that there's a solution! These Merino Lightweight Baselayers are a great choice for going on a brisk winter hike, snowshoeing, or even skiing!

I recently wore them under my PrAna Halle Convertible pants for an intense winter hike up Mount Olympus in Utah, and they were breathable while still warm/insulating.

These lost a star for me because the material is not as stretchy as I would have liked them to be (I have never worn a base layer made out of just wool before, so that is likely the reason why). At first I worried these were too small, but once you pull the loose fabric up towards your hips/torso and adjust the waist accordingly , these fit like a glove and do not move a bit! ( I would consider the midweight bottoms if you are easily cold and are going to wear them under non insulated pants for skiing or extended periods of time exposed to snow).

I didn't find these itchy at all either, maybe a little scratchy, but nothing irritating to my skin. All in all these are a really solid pair of reasonably priced lightweight base layers that move with your body and will keep you toasty and dry !

      • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
      • Fit: True to size

Great wool base layer at a good price. Comfortable, warm, good fit. Bought my mom this as a gift and she loves them! Highly recommend. Layering up, always use this and the Stoic Merino Lightweight Crew Top - Women's to start.

I got these, tried them on and returned them based on how itchy they are. They fit fine and seem warm, but they were just uncomfortably scratchy. Turned to capilene instead.

      Ideal for XC skiing

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: Runs large
      • Size Bought: Medium
      • Height: 5'4"
      • Weight: 135lbs

I wear this thin base layer on cold days under my Nordic ski pants. It provides just the right amount of insulation. The stitching makes the piece a bit nicer than comparable bottoms.

Great item, just not as warm as expected

I normally wear Omni heat base layers for skiing in Utah, but I wanted to try merino wool, thinking it could be a bit warmer with the perks of breathability, but turns out is pretty much the same. I'll return the pants because I already have several omni heat. I'll keep the top just because it feels so luxurious.
