Classic Vacuum, Timeless Styles

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

My grandpa had one of these that he took to work at the American Can Company ever day for decades. You know what? The damn thing still works like a dream. There are all sorts of hipster drinking vessels on the market these days and some of them are pretty great. For a classic, however, trust Stanley.

Better than Hydro

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Picked up a couple of these for winter skiing and activities. They're better than the Hydroflask thermoses I have, and I always swear by Hydro. But these feel like they're more designed for hot beverages. The way the lid is shaped makes it so you don't burn your mouth when drinking from it, which I've done with a Hydro. I love the classic look and these are items I will keep for decades.

I love this Stanley. I have dropped it several times and it can really take a hit with out even getting a scuff. It does a great job insulating, it keeps your hots hot and your colds cold throughout the whole day.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I love my Stanley thermos. My Dad would always travel with a Stanley thermos when I was young, so added good memories whenever I use this. Keeps my coffee piping hot.

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I review a lot of gear with an implication for how each piece saved my life. I think that's a good testament to the kit. If you're going do stuff that is dangerous, your gear should be good enough to keep you going.

I got pretty cold on an ice clib this past weekend. I didn't bring belay gloves or my typical leader jacket. So bringing up the second and third, then rigging a rappel became an ordeal in exposure. I was pretty cold and visibly shaking by the time i got to my parka and my Stanley Classic.

After donning my parka and a thicker pair of gloves, i pulled out my gas station coffee and was pleased to have a steaming cup. It was single digits when we left the car that morning and a couple horus later i was still enjoying a hot beverage.

Will probably put something more appropriate in it in the future (e.g., broth, tea, hot gatorade, etc.). The coffee was tasty but definitely not optimal. if we weren't cragging, i would've definitely chosen an alternative.

Regardless, the integrated cup is nice, the vacuum bottle has a metal rim that isn't too hot to sip directly from the bottlel. Its folded steel rim is just separated enough to dissipate heat so you don't burn the **** out of your lips.

The cap has a thick rubber gasket that should last through a lot of uses.

This is my first vacuum bottle for winter activity. Wish i hadn't waited so long.

lasts forever

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Seriously, you cant kill this thing. Mine was proudly stolen from my father 15 years ago or so. It is older than I am. It is dented all over and has rust spots around the bottom of it. But, it still insulates well and keeps my coffee toasty and doesnt leak.

Great for Babies

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

It was a dark and cold 2:00 AM somewhere in the Wasatch mountains, three-month-old Iris was crying, while I desperately tried to heat water for her bottle on my under-powered camp stove when it hit me: I can just heat up water in advance, and keep it a vacuum bottle! Life has never been the same since.

Anytime we're going to be out of the house for more than a few hours, we preheat water for our baby bottle and store it in our Stanley bottle. No more worrying about finding a microwave, or asking random waitresses to heat up water--we're set everywhere we go. I don't know how we made it through two kids without one.

Dad swears by it

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I gave this bottle to my dad for Christmas and he has been raving about it. He uses it to take hot chocolate with him through the day. The cup is appropriately sized, and the narrow shape fits well within a daypack. .

The Classic

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Great little bottle, I've gotten quite a few comments on the style of it. And the lid-cup is awesome. The heat life seems to be about 8-10 hours.

hot stuff

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I use this to keep hot chocolate hot while spending a day on the slopes and it works great. keeps hot for 12+ hours and still looks new after spending 25+ days in my backpack. I was able to pick it up on SAC so it was a great deal as well

Best there is

I was in desperate need of a new thermos that held the heat and didn't leak after a month's worth of use. The Stanley is it. I don't think that I will ever go back to the other brands. Even walking a mile to class in the middle of the winter here in Utah, my tea was always pipping hot still. It is easy to use and easy to clean. A bit heavy for a backpacking mug, but great for those alpine winter days and for school or work.

    As advertised

This is a great thermos. Everything you need to keep your drinks hot for a majority of the day. We use it for backcountry skiing, and even with the cold temps, it will keep coffee hot for 8+ hours. We have both a small size and big, depending on our activity for the day. A true classic.

      Don't Leave Home Without It

This is a great thermos. Stays nice and toasty all day long and is small enough to throw in any day bag. Clean and classic styling makes this guy a great addition for any avid coffee or tea lover. Bottomline: Dont leave home without it!!!!!!

        New Trip Companion

I love this thermos. Simply put if you want to keep something hot put it in this thermos. The all metal double walled can keeps everything hot so that when you are riding the chair lift or when you are on the road and you need a something warm and caffeinated you got it! Also the fact that the lid has slots in it to pour the contents out of it without unscrewing the whole thing is amazing and convenient! I am probably going to invest in the 1.4 quart size for camping.

          Steamy little tea pot.

I really love this. The dual seal keeps your drinks where they should be! I am someone who always throws my thermos straight into my pack, and I have yet to have a leak! Most thermoses I've owned have been plastic lined and always make my brew taste like my last ten cups of coffee, but the stainless steel in this one keeps it tasting fresh. It's a little more pricey, but definitely worth it. It's a good winter companion.

            leaks after a week :(

first week i had it just bringing coffee to work the cap leaked all over the inside. i have to keep it vertical if i want to avoid this. I thought this was weird so i emailed the company hoping they would send me a new seal or cap. All i got was "i hope you saved your receipt!"
still use the product but will never buy stanley again!!!

              love this thermos

I bought a purple one of these about 10 years ago at Walker Drug in Moab, and it seemed a little spendy, but I waited until my birthday and then splurged! For climbing in the winter, or taking along in the car, it became my favorite thing I owned. Every time I used it, I thought about how great it was and how much I loved it! (seriously, I really did.) And it was purple! It wasn't just purple either, it was this really beautiful creamy lavender glossy purple. That was money well spent.

Tragedy always strikes though, just when everything is perfect. I have been ransacking all the cabinets for the last couple of appears that somehow I lost the purple thermos last winter! It is fairly devastating, and I'm not sure I'll get over it. The nice new red one I just ordered here might help. _________
So I just got my new red thermos, and everything always happens for a reason: this one is lighter! 30% lighter, to be precise! Now I'm glad the purple one is gone! (well, not entirely, but kind of)

Love this so far. This will keep you drink hot for hours. I'm excited to take it into the backcountry this season! Clean as soon as possible because it can't go in the dishwasher so it is hard to scrub without a special brush.

best travel mug ever ever ever

keeps drinks hot even 8 hours later. lid never leaks a single drop even if it ends up upside down in my bag. fully unscrewable lid means i can thoroughly wash the whole thing. never retains odors or stains. wide enough opening for a big bottle brush. big enough to hold lots of morning coffee/tea, but small enough to stick in the water bottle pocket on the side of my backpack. in a word, perfect. we have two!
