    Enviably clean.

Admit it: you don't really need your extra granny gear anymore. Sure, you'll use it if it's there, but like your childhood night light, you're more reassured by the presence of a granny gear than by what it's actually doing. Upgrade to SRAM's venerable X01 one-by drivetrain and in addition to gaining a shockingly wide cassette, you'll be able to rally over the rough stuff with the benefit of SRAM's nearly indestructible X01 Direct Mount Crankset.

The cranket's direct mount design essentially throws out the extra weight of a spider for a cleaner built-in aluminum spider setup that's just as durable as more traditional designs. Carbon fiber crank arms complement the spider, and aside from a few cosmetic details, they're almost identical to SRAM's pricier XX1 crankset, so don't worry about sacrificing functionality for a drop in price. If the loamy singletrack you ride rarely dries out, you'll appreciate the squared-off teeth that adorn the X-Sync chainring, shaped specifically to clear mud and gunk so you don't get bogged down on sticky stretches of trail. Even if drier terrain is more the norm for you, ride reassured that X-Sync's profile will latch onto your chain and keep it securely in place while you focus on the line ahead.

    • Rally over destructive terrain with this streamlined crankset
    • Direct-mount design saves weight and creates slimmer interface
    • X-Sync chainring shaped to clear mud and debris
    • Chainring's tall teeth grab chain cleanly and securely

    Solid

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Burly crankset for the weight and the money. Can't beat the direct mount for aesthetics and stiffness. Also to note, the chainline is excellent and doesn't drop the chain off the large cog in the rear nor does it make much noise compared to 1x11 systems of the past. No complaints

    Sleek and stiff

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The new direct mount ring drops weight and offers a stiffer chain ring than the previous spider based cranks. My 175 X01 cranks with a 30T direct mount ring weighed in at 520g. The aesthetics are great, and the carbon crankarms are stiff and durable. Not much more you can ask for in a crank

    Sleek and stiff

Is this a boost compatible crank? I have a boost 148 bike with x1400 crank and want to move to carbon crank

Would this work on my Santa Cruz 29 Hardball? If so what else would I need to buy to make it all work nice and silky smooth?

Hey Eric - You will definitely need the SRAM GXP Team Bottom Bracket (Item #SRM0378) to run these cranks on your Santa Cruz Highball. Depending on what drivetrain you have now you might also need a new cassette, rear derailleur, shifter and chain too. Feel free to contact me directly to discuss your options.
