    Organic is cool.

The benefits of SRAM's Organic Road Disc Brake Pads include gains in the same areas that initially attracted us to disc brakes: engagement immediately translates to stopping power and there's virtually no breaking-in period. They also address concerns about overheating brakes by redirect heat into the rotor, not the caliper, which keeps the hydraulic oil cool and maintains consistency during long periods of continual braking.

If you're coming to disc brakes from carbon rim brakes, then you'll be familiar with these pads' tendency to wear more quickly than sintered pads ? they are, after all, made from organic materials bonded with resin for a build that's similar to carbon-specific rim brake pads. Braking power also benefits from an occasional sanding to remove the glaze-like finish that builds up over time, but the extra attention to detail means more responsive braking for those moments when the alternative is a taco'd fork.

Finally, we should note that some of SRAM's mountain bike calipers—the Level Ultimate and Level TM models—also use these pads, so classifying them as road-only is a bit limiting. But c'est la vie in an industry of ever changing standards.

    Good Stuff

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

It was interesting to see that SRAM deviated from their typical mtb brake pad shape, but so far I have seen no downsides to the switch. Super easy to swap. SRAM is definitely doing good work in the brake department these days.

    Good Mtn Stoppers, Too

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have the SRAM Level TLM disc brakes on my mountain bike, which use these pads. At first I was surprised that SRAM would spec these pads on mountain brakes. But then I was just plain impressed by how much power those brakes squeeze out of the "road" pads. I also appreciate the strong initial grab of the organic compound.

    What it takes.

This is the pad that works with the Caliper. It performs well under a load meaning it slows the bike with little or now noise.
I have this brake pad on a Cross bike that has not seen much mud yet this season so it has held up well in regards to wear. I only ride the bike about 15 times a season and this is the third season on a single set of these pads. You may experience a shorter life span of the pad if you ride in mud/sand etc. No complaints on this end.

    Unanswered Question

Wondering about the weight. The same SRAM sintered pads are 36g compared to these at 120g. That is a difference of 84g or .19lbs. Is that really correct? The more I think about it my Fizik Tundra M1 saddle weighs 130g. What is the correct weight?

Do these fix the SRAM Rival road brakes? I'm guessing they do but wanted to be sure before I order. Thanks,
