    Stopping Power

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

    This is a great base model brake. Works just as well as the nicer models without having the contact adjustment. Easy to bleed and maintain and swap out pads.

    oh, they'll stop ya

    Came from riding with some cheap sram levels, these things are a major upgrade for not a lot of money, they just work! no BS, no lock ups, no noise. and the adjustability on the levers themselves make for a much better braking experience and the confidence you need to know you will stop when you tap the brakes.

    Inconsistent & Spongy

    These brakes came stock on a Santa Cruz Bronson CC I brought from Competitive Cyclist in February, 2018. After around 20 hours of use, I've already needed to have them bled once, and have completely lost braking ability while on a trail ride. Since they're over 30 days old Competitive Cyclist will not accept a return, and Sram won't stand behind their product. After I bought and installed Shimano brakes, Sram will only consider a warranty if I reinstall the Guides and send a video. This is especially frustrating because the braking is inconsistent; it works fine sometimes, but is spongy or even non-existent at other times. Above anything else, I want to know what my brakes will do every time I pull the lever. With these brakes, I have to keep pumping them the whole way down a descent to make sure they will work. This is unacceptable. I highly recommend sticking with Shimano brakes, even the 2-piston XTs are much better and consistent than these. Very disappointing.


    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

    I bought a set of these to replace a set of brakes from another manufacturer that happened to be leaking fluid from behind the caliper piston. I had replaced, re faced, pads, and replaced rotors on the other brakes before I figured out the cause of the excessive brake noise.

    I grabbed a set of the SRAM Guide RS trail brakes because I have ridden the guides in the past and have loved them. None of the issues that plagued SRAM during the "Elixer" era exist anymore. These have been trouble free and offer tons of power and modulation. I would buy them again and again.

    Powerful brakes with consistent modulation. Stack up to the XTs in terms of performance. These don't feature the contact point adjustment the RSC brakes have, but they feel great at their factory setting.

    I was having issues with my Shimano brake system squealing. Found out i needed to replace the entire system due to spraying oil from behind the piston. I can finally ride my bike and not be heard miles away. Love these brakes.

    Sram has redeemed itself with me. I've avoided sram brakes for years until I tried the Guide Brake. Two piston design provides confidence inspiring brake performance. Great lever feel. Easy contact point adjustment. Lever pull adjustment a breeze. Bleeding the brakes is not an issue with sram's pro bleed kit.

    These brakes are the best around in my opinion. The nicer models have some contact adjustments that can be nice, but I chose the simple RS model and they have been awesome.
