Great case but watch the sizing

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

The case is well made but there are 2 faults that are worth keeping an eye out for.

1 - the case isn't really tall enough for backcountry skis w/ Dynafit bindings. I had to jam my skis in there = no real protection from crushing for bindings

2 - the locking system that connects the 2 halves of the case works fine but you have to be careful to ensure that you've actually locked the two sides together and not just locked the lock to one side without linking in the other side. Hard to explain but seems like an EASY thing for TSA to messup and leave your skis and gear to open and spew all over the airport.

I'd recommend trying this in person before buying online. I'm returning mine as it doesn't fit. Better off with a soft case for now...

That's interesting, because the case extends to 212cm in length and when packed properly per the instructions is plenty deep enough for any AT binding including my Dynafit Radial STs. Just had two pair in there the other day. As with all cases the skis go in tip to tail with the bindings facing each other. No jamming required.

We use an airline approved TSA combination lock and have not experienced any issues with the case being left unlocked by the TSA. Seems most people manage quite well with the included non locking hitch pin.

I have owned this product for 3 seasons now. It is very durable and does a great job protecting skis. After an experience I had last year though, I wanted to second the caution as it relates to the locking mechanism. I had similar fears about TSA not relocking it correctly. I took added precautions by using a paint pen to write in bold, instructions for TSA to re-lock through both holes on the case AND laminated a card with duplicate, more detailed instructions.

Despite this, last year I was very disappointed to find my sportube in two pieces at the destination airport, with my Kastle skis in a heap, bases/edges damaged. Not the fault at all of the sportube, but lowest common denominator prevailed here to my great disappointment. I’ve traveled multiple other times before with no incident, but the lock does provide a fail point that is out of your control.

    Unanswered Question

Would (with clever packing) this fit 3 pairs of skis... 176, 146 & 110cm in length?
Trying to come up with a solution which would hold 2 'adult' length and one kids length ski. Thinking this might work?
