These boots are classic for a reason. Just retired my 30yr old pair for a new pair. Tread pattern has been upgraded and so far seem just as good if not a little better in the slick. These boots still run one full size large, so order down. See a lot a reviews here about the boots being “clunky” and “heavy”, so let me clarify. These amazing boots are for stomping around in the snow and cold for light work and play, with the intent of keeping your feet warm and dry. And, this is exactly what they do, better than any of the rest. If you live in a part of the country that is snowless and/or where winters don’t get into the teens or lower, then you may not get much use out of these. Also, if you are looking for something fashionable to wear down to the local coffee shop, then these are probably not going to be a good choice for you either. If however you spend time outside in winter weather, need a boot that you can slip on to walk the dog, shovel the car, shovel the walk, fetch some wood, take a short snowshoe hike, do chores around the (outside) of the house, help your neighbor repair his fence and change out of your ski boots into something super comfortable, then look no further. P.S. I actually do wear mine down to the local coffee shop, because I would rather look less fashionable and have warm feet when enjoying a good cup of coffee and conversation with my friends and neighbors.

Was on the hunt for these boots ever since I saw them on line. Ordered a pair of Bruno colored Caribou boots from DSW with $15 dollar off coupon for $155 including shipping. All reviews pointed to fact they run large. I have a wide foot and normally wear a 9.5 or 10 wide so I took a chance. 10 was tight. Returned them and found the the same boots in black (preferred color) so I ordered a pair in 10 and a pair in 10.5 just in case. The 10.5 pair is a keeper and will return the size 10 pair via the $6.99 flat rate shipping return. Still saved a ton of money. Backcountry you are the best. Prompt 2 day shipping arrived on time. Will definitely recommend to all my friends. Have not worn them in the winter so I can't really rate the boots but I am prepared for a cold snowy winter.

I have had a couple pairs of Sorel boots and I love these ones. They are very durable and keep your feet super warm and dry in all kinds of conditions. They do run big and I sized down a full size from my normal shoe size. If you are looking for a great winter boot check these ones out for sure!

Although I haven't used my Sorel Caribou Boots yet, but they seem to be decent quality and came at a fair price (Note: I got them on sale for ~$115). Since I haven't used them, I can't speak to long-term quality.... The two things I don't quite like about the boots is that they're really wide (fit large) and really heavy. I have a narrow foot and am wondering whether or not they'll fit better with some extra socks...

First things first, these boots will run large, so be sure to go one full size down from your normal boot size. With that out of the way, these boots are incredibly warm and look great to bat. They're not too rugged for hiking, but they're perfect for my day to day needs. After all, these boots have influenced the winter boot market for decades and for good reason.

The main issue is sizing as everyone else says. It's a hassle But I suggest just ordering multiple sizes and returning what you don't need. Solid 1-1.5 size down. Other than that, great boots at a reasonable price

A classic, warm, highly functional winter boot. Great for digging out the car, shoveling the driveway, taking the dog out, or wearing around on a snowy day. They are definitely big and bulky so would not recommend these for recreating but I don't think many people buy these with that in mind. Runs about a full size large so order down.

These are a great solid winter boot, I use them for driveway shoveling and driving up to the resorts. I wouldn't say these are great for any extended hiking as they are quite heavy and stiff. They do run big. I went with a size 10 and I typically wear 10.5-11

Sorel still makes it count! If you know Sorel you know to buy a size smaller so that is the only issue. Besides that this thing is toasty! You won't be slipping around and wiggling your toes to get that blood flowing, good socks will do the trick as well as the lining. I only wish there was a way to fix the hooks when they come off. These things are durable and my dad's had a pair for YEARS but the hooks came off so maybe there could be a fix kit... idk. If you're hesitant, just send it. These are worth it.

It must be true. I bought a pair of the Canadian version over 15 years ago. It's the only snow boot I've owned since then. I live in East Idaho where we have plenty of snow to go around. I've used them for everything from camping with boy scouts, sledding with my kids, and snowmobiling in mountains over 10,000 ft. Best winter boot I've ever owned. Too bad the Chinese have ruined them.

I totally disagree. I wear 43 Euro, which aligns with a 10 in Sorel. I tried them on in a store, and an 8 -8..5 was right for me. Their sizing is way off base.

The Wool Caribou shares all the same attributes of the regular Caribou except for: 1.) Wool Caribou has a felt wool inner liner 2.) Wool Caribou has a full grain leather upper (Regular Caribou utilizes nubuck leather). Both share the same temperature rating as well.

Any sorel that you wear will keep you warm in very cold days. When you think of sorel think arctic winter days like northern MN or calgary. I would see no reason why these boots wouldn't work for horseback riding.

Hey Ben, Depends on the hike. These boots are heavy, and meant to be worn in really, really cold winter/snow weather. I did a ~3 mile snow hike and they were great, but if I was going longer distances, I'd want something lighter.

The issue is that there is Caribou and Caribou II. Apparently (and I don't know this for sure), Columbia brought Sorel, and they royally screwed it up. The old Sorel Caribou is what you want. there is a post on the net about a snowmobile rental business that bought 100 pairs to rent out--the owner claimed nearly *ALL* developed cracks and leaks in one season. Maybe bad batch.. but it does seem the Caribou II is to blame.

A 10 should do it for you. The removable felt liner will pack out a bit over time, and the toe box is already pretty spacious, so the lower size will be a good choice.

Kenneth C.

August 30, 2010
No. While you can wear snowshoes with this, you definitely should not try and wear crampons, there isn't anyway for them to be anchored to the boot. Also this boot itself while fine for trekking through the snow is not designed to be used in a "mountaineering" environment, not nearly enough support.
