x TOMS Street Climbing Shoe

So Ill styled the x TOMS Street Climbing Shoe with TOMS footwear for an original style. This shoe has the same design as the original Street Climbing Shoe, which is So Ill's most aggressive, downturned shoe for the gym's hardest boulder problems and routes. An ultra-thin midsole gives this shoe superior softness for feeling the smallest jibs on the wall. Its Dark Matter rubber comes from So Ill's UnParallel Rubber family, which the Navy Seals use for reliable traction during covert missions, and its non-marking convenience ensures long-lasting durability. The synthetic upper has a padded tongue for comfort, and since it doesn't stretch much, So Ill recommends sizing the shoe similarly to your regular street shoe.

  • So Ill's aggressive climbing shoe designed with TOMS footwear
  • Downturned profile with thin midsole for advanced climbers
  • Dark Matter rubber for solid traction on small jibs
  • Synthetic upper with padded tongue has minimal stretching

not really a performance shoe

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I have worn So Ill shoes for a while and these shoes fit similarly to my Runners which is to say, they're pretty comfortable but not quite right in the heel. I wear size 11.5 street shoes and went with 12 as recommended and have worn 12 in the Runners as well. The heel fit is not perfect and perhaps sizing down would have solved this but it's been a long time since I tried on the smaller sizes so I can only comment on their guideline sizing. The heel in the Street is even floppier than in my Runners because they seem to be angled flatter. It doesn't seem to be a manufacturing flaw since both shoes fit the same way. While the toes are alright they just don't compare well to the Evolv Shamans and Mad Rock Sharks that had a much more precise fit and more sensitive toes. These are also ventilated rather poorly and your feet start to get sweaty. The Runners have a nicer mesh material that is a bit more breathable. After climbing in the Evolv's and the Mad Rock's side by side with this shoe a few times I just couldn't rationalize keeping them since they didn't meet my criteria for a performance shoe, i.e. sending routes/problems at your limit... For comparison I've enjoyed 5.10 Anasazi Velcros, other Mad Rocks sized about 10.5 and tested the Evolv Shamans sized 11.5 so maybe So Ill sizing guidelines just aren't quite right but this heel lift problem seems to be a recurring issue.

If I wear a men’s 8 / 8.5 what size would I wear in this shoe?
