The Snow Peak Peg Hammer is a pretty serious rig. Hand-crafted from choice materials, it will make light work of ANY peg or stake hammering.

The Snow Peak Peg Hammer provides some solid pounding power. Easily pound in and extract pegs and stakes with this mean puppy. The Snow Peak Peg Hammer's handle is made from hard and resilient natural evergreen oak. And its head is made of soft copper which keeps the hammer from slipping off peg heads during serious hammering. It also alleviates the impact transmitted to the arm.

    Well designed

To be honest, I never thought I would consider a hammer to put in tents stakes an indespensible item. This is made well and works great with Snow Peak Solid Stakes. It not only makes getting them in the ground a breeze but also makes getting them out easy.

If pounding stakes is your thing...

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

    ....get this.

Ever whack a steel hammer head off a recalcitrant nail? You feel much of the impact rebounding into your hand. Your hand will tell you about that sooner or later. And it won't be pleasant. That's why this one has the copper head. The head deforms a bit with each strike, absorbing bad energy and sending good down into that stake where it belongs. That head will look like a mushroom by and by. But your hand won't feel like a battlefield. Snow Peak sells replacement heads, which cost much less than treating carpal tunnel syndrome or stress fractures. You can whale away and feel good too. The leash makes for a secure grip and beaucoup leverage, yeah, use it; the handle gives the right feel; and the flip side of the head will make extracting a stake child's play. (Really. It'll surprise you.) It's heavy perhaps to tote backcountry. But for those of us who like to bring a little Lewis and Clark into the front country mix - never mind getting through those armor plate "tent pads" that seem as often as not to be discouraging you from pitching that tent - well, consider this. It feels like the big leagues before you use it, and delivers when you do.

set up and strike down tent loads easier

This hammer when paired with the snow peak stakes work without flaw. The craftsmanship of the handle and head is impeccable. The copper head is design to absorb impact and therefore will flatten out and gain an antique look over time. Good news though, the copper head is replaceable but that won't be necessary until after years of hard use. My favorite part of this hammer is the hook on the back that allows for easily removing the stakes from the ground. Must have if you camp anywhere with rocky / root filled ground conditions.

    Pounding Stakes into Frozen Tundra?

Boots & ice axes can be ruined. Frozen ground with hard packed snow won't take froo-froo 'snow stakes' - you need them long and hard and they need a good pounding. And this little hammer gets the job done! Peg hammers are just for girls, you think? Think again, steroid boy. There's plenty of power here and the copper head won't damage those expensive stakes!
