    Setting new standards.

The Smith Vantage MIPS Helmet offers the ultimate in ski- and snowboard-worthy protection, style, and comfort, so you can stay safe on the slopes while looking and feeling good. Between the lightweight feel, superior safety technology, and customizable fit and ventilation, there's no excuse not to rock one.

The Multi-directional Impact Protection System (MIPS) allows a small rotation of the outer shell relative to the liner when your head hits at an angle in order to decrease rotational forces, reducing potential damage to your brain. Smith also engineered the Vantage MIPS with Aerocore construction, which combines lightweight EPS with revolutionary Koroyd material. This unique material absorbs more impact than traditional foams while simultaneously improving breathability and reducing weight and bulk.

AirVac 2 ventilation features twenty-one vents that can be fully opened on warm spring days, partially closed when temps drop, or completely shut in the middle of a blizzard. The Boa FS360 fit system allows you to quickly and easily dial in the perfect fit. Snapfit S12 ear pads can be removed in warmer weather, and they're also audio-compatible with a (sold separately) Skullcandy audio system.

    Well made!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I purchased this as a gift and "I wanted this Smith Vantage helmet as a replacement for an older, non-smith branded helmet that was past-due for retirement. My initial impression was very positive, noting how light the Smith Vantage felt, and how much better the BOA fit system worked than my previous helmet. Throughout the first week of use, I was quite impressed with ventilation capability and adjustability of the helmet. It was able to keep me warm while skiing fast fresh cord, and also remain cool working up multiple boot packs and skin tracks. I'd also add that this helmet worked great with my Smith I/O goggles, as I never had too much fogging to deal with (which was not the case when my previous helmet). All in all, I believe Smith makes a high-quality helmet and wouldn't think twice about recommending this to model to my friends.

    adVANTAGE goes to Smith

Cheezy title but whatever...picked up this helmet at the start of the season and have been wearing it ever since. The fit (mine is medium for a 7 1/8 head) is right on, and the comfort level is second to none. Thank goodness no scary falls yet but did have one this season off a pipe where my head slammed back. Moral of the story...helmet worked as it should have and I kept riding. Highly recommend!

    Awesome

I get headaches easily when wearing a helmet of any sort, ski, climb, bike etc. this one hasn’t been too bad so far though and fits nicely!

    Can't go back

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

It was time to replace my old Smith Vantage helmet after multiple seasons and crashes where it undoubtedly did its job and prevented or minimized injury. I thought I would try something different, but after trying on a bunch of other helmets, the choice was clear, the Vantage was the best out there and I am happy to back in one.

Super light, low profile, and comfortable, after a few minutes I forget that I am wearing it and can comfortably wear it for a bell to bell day with no issues. Awesome ventilation control lets you adjust your airflow with how much and where you need it most. I run very warm so I have it open most of the time and it breathes very well and I almost never overheat. Fit is awesome, the boa system lets you dial in your perfect fit and can adjust for whatever liner, balaclava, etc. you want to put under it. Cant say enough good things about this, I know when this one wears out I will immediately replace it with another.

    Great fit

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I love this helmet. It is comfortable and lightweight. I love the Boa adjuster in the back to fit my head perfectly whether I am wearing a balaclava or not. Size up one size, It fits a little snug.

    Very comfortable and lightweight

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Great helmet love the fact that I can close the vents on those powder days and keep the snow out, then open it up to let some air in. Very lightweight and feels great on the head. Does run a bit small, sized up to a L I'm normally a M.

    XL - too small

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

The Smith Variance XL fits just fine; however, the Vantage XL is too small for my big noggin. Even the Giro Range L fits (barely). Disappointed that the Vantage does not fit, as the ventilation appears to be better than the ventilation on the Variance.

    Noggin protection

This helmet has a great fit although I definitely agree with the other reviewers that you ought to error on the side of getting a size larger with the MIPS built in. I love all the vents, they work well enough that I can keep the helmet on while skinning up the Wasatch and my head still breathes. Seems very durable, well worth what’s hopefully at least a ten-year helmet.

After putting this through more testing here is my updated review:

The best thing I can say about this helmet is that I don't think about it when I'm wearing it. The fit is spot on and it isn't too tight or doesn't rub my ears like some of my old helmets did. The BOA adjuster literally "dials in" the perfect fit. I will say that when I first got the helmet the MIPS piece dug into my forehead. However, I removed the mesh liner from the attaching velcro and repositioned slightly more forward to better cover the plastic MIPS piece and have not had any issues since then; a very minor issue that was readily fixed. Having two options to open either the front or back vents is a great feature and can easily be done with gloves on. Also, this is the first time I've had the same brand helmet and goggle (I have the smith i/o x) and it really does make a difference - fears of the dreaded gaper gap be gone! I would recommend this product to anyone who wants MIPS protection, multiple ventilation options and a comfortable helmet.

Best Fitting Helmet Ive Ever Had

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

      Fit: True to size
I upgraded to this from my then top-of-the-line 15 year old helmet from Pro-Tec, rated for multiple impacts. Ive had quite a few more than that so the Vantage was what I went with after a lot of research. It is by far the best fitting helmet Ive ever worn in any sport. My head never overheated. The tensioner hugs my head and I feel probably safer than I should feel in this helmet. The earpads do feel annoying after a full day ride, but very minor and because I have large ears. Goggle fit is perfect for the Zionor ones I got on Amazon. Best purchase this season.

      The Best Helmet

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I trust the Smith Vantage MIPS helmet to keep my head protected on the slopes. it has two sets of vents that cover almost the whole helmet, is audio-compatible, and has a BOA system to dial in the perfect fit. It looks great and is really comfortable!

      All around Great Helmet.

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Runs a little tight, but great helmet. I love Smith and all their products. I feel maybe too safe with this helmet, makes me want to get crazy on the mountain. Awesome

One of the best you can buy.

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Admittedly I am not a fan of helmets. However I do appreciate the safety factor.
So many people feel that they will look like a bobblehead with a helmet. I felt the same way. I read many reviews on helmets and researched them quite a bit. After I discovered the Vantage Mips helmet, it changed my point of view and understanding. At first I felt like it was all just a giant sales pitch. The MIPS, and Koroyd material seemed gimmicky. After learning more about them, I do appreciate their benefits. The technology is the finest available. I bought this helmet without ever having tried it on or seen it in person. I took my measurements. Approximately 58-59 cm. I knew I was pretty much in between sizes. I really didn't want to buy a large sized helmet. I was concerned about the bobblehead effect. I did get to try on a Smith Variance and a Smith Maze in a Medium. They were very snug. Honestly I didn't want the pressure on my head like that all day. They appeared to be just a tiny bit smaller in a Medium size, vs a Large. Really marginal difference. Just not worth the trade off at all to go with a medium that fit snug just to perhaps get a very, very slight difference in appearance. Negligible to say the least. The Variance didn't have the same features as the Vantage either. The Maze was very warm even after just a minute of wearing it. Just didn't have adequate ventilation. I ordered the Large Vantage MIPS. I finally received the helmet, and put it on. I was a bit shocked. I looked like an astronaut or an alien. Not the image I was expecting. Of course I was standing there in jeans and a t-shirt with this helmet on. I looked ridiculous. I went ahead and put on my snowboarding gear. Jackets, neck warmer, goggles. Now it all made sense. It all came together beautifully. The fit with my Anon M2 goggles was absolutely perfect. I looked like every other person I've seen wearing a ski helmet. No better, no worse, the same.
I love all of the features of this helmet. The venting is spot on. So important. If you've ever worn a helmet with less than adequate venting, you will appreciate how much flexibility this gives you in terms of adjusting the temperatures inside of it. The Boa 360 is outstanding. The shape of your head is a non issue. It will adjust to it. I have an oval shaped head. I read many reviews from people stating that this helmet is better suited for people with round heads. Not true. The Boa 360 system molds to the shape of my head perfectly. There is no looseness at all. I'm glad I chose the Large size over the Medium because of the flexibility it gives me. I wouldn't have had that in the Medium. Most important, I feel very safe in this helmet. Not invincible, just well protected. And I'm in love with the look now too.

      Helmet fits small

I usually wear a large helmet (motorcycle, bicycle, other ski helmets) but the XL just barely fit. Not sure what is going on here but the XL is more like a large and there is no option for a 2XL or XXL.

        Runs Small

        • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I have worn Smiths Helmets for years. I have worn a size M in years past. This helmet runs small. Ordered the M and returned it for a L.

        Unanswered Question

will this helmet work with other audio systems like outdoor tech chips 2.0 or only skull candy audio?

I am interested in this this helmet but I'm concerned about the fit based on the reviews here. I'm a medium (55-59cm) in a older vintage smith helmet without MIPS technology. My head measures around 57-58cm. Would you recommend a medium or large for this helmet? Thank you!

        Hi Stephen,

I have this helmet in a Large and my head is 7 3/8 (58-59cm) and it fits me great, especially when I'm wearing a balaclava. The amount of adjustability on this helmet is pretty good so if I were you I would go with the medium in this case.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to reach out to me directly.

        Thanks,

I have this helmet...great fit and style. Just wondering where I can get that Backcountry face mask in the photos? Checked the backcountry site but could not find??

Does the MIPS only allow one crash all the tubes break or does it stay completely function after a crash.

Depends how bad the crash. I hit a tree with my Smith bike helmet with Koroyd - all the tubes collapsed at the point of impact, but stayed intact around the rest of the helmet. The foam shell did not crack either - just collapsed a bit. Will be replacing it soon, but for now I feel it still offers a good deal of protection

        to whom it may concern,

will you be offering different colors of this helmet at some point and if so any ideas as to when? thanks

        Best Answer

The Vantage MIPS will be available in Gunmetal, Mustard and White. The new colors should be arriving in the next week or two. If you are interested in a specific size/color let me know and I will gladly put one on hold for you.
