Takes lots of abuse and still performs

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have had this goggle for 3 seasons now and its been put through the wringer for sure. As an outdoor professional this goggle has over 300 days on them for me and they still perform like new. Both lenses in the kit have taken multiple tree branches and impacts without any cracks or scratches. There are a few scuffs but are not noticeable while wearing them. Anti fog performance is great and they even repel water and sleet quite well to keep the wiping to a minimum.

    world of difference

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These goggles are simply amazing in every kind of condition. Also, I wear glasses (hate contacts) while skiing, and these are the first goggles I've ever worn that make me forget I'm wearing glasses - no pressure on the nose, no fogging, just skiing. From bluebird to whiteout I couldn't recommend them more

    Smith...'nuff said

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

No one evers 'needs' anything gear-wise, just wants new gear...same here. My 'old' googles were fine, I just wanted a new pair...these, obviously, rock. Extra, low-light, lens included and the main bright light lens is great....LOTS of visibility. Lens interchangeability is a snap and could be done on the fly if need be....bottom line, go get a pair.

    11/10 for this one

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Amazing goggles. The fit is great, and so are the lenses. It makes skiing in low visibility no problem, and makes those sunny days even more enjoyable. I have always been a fan of bigger goggles, because they keep your face warm! These definitely are my new favorites in terms of goggles. Smith has done it again!

    I/O X for life

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Great fit, easy to change lenses, clear vision. I like the wide view out the lens. It looks like it sits on the tip of your nose, but the way the foam is cut, it sits on the bridge.

Swapping out the lenses are wicked easy. The Red Sensor mirror lens is great for low light conditions. Clear is still the best for fog. The blackout lens is perfect when the sun is out.

This (or future variations) are my go to goggle for life.

    Great Goggles

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I needed an upgrade from my very old Scott goggles. These were recommended by my wife (who bought hers last year). I was concerned about the reviews that spoke about the fit being small for large heads. But they fit great and are super versatile with the interchangeable lens. Used them for one season and love them so far.

Cant go wrong with smith IO

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have had many different goggles in the past from electric, Oakley, and more in the past. When out on the mountain these pieces of equipment are so key to performing well. The issue i always came across was durability. Smith hit the nail on the head with these lens as they integrated the fog x lens treatment. This uses a hydrophilic lens coating which absorbs and disperses moisture across the lens eliminating fog. They actually put these through the test and it withstood 120 seconds of constant fogging in a lab, and i can attest this on the mountain as i have never had a problem. The other advantage is with the multi lens system. Sol-x for high light days are great at protecting the eyes but the sensor lens really makes a difference on flat light days. These sensor lens increases the visibility of shadows that bumps and flat spots create. If you have ever skied on a flat light day you know how important it is to be able to quickly react to variable terrain, and these goggles give the best shot at it. Do yourself a favor and go the IO route. If you have any questions i am available 7 days a week to chat about my experience with them: Jumorgan@backcountry.com

    second pair

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is my second pair of the I/0X and love them, i bought a second pair simply because the first had lived their lives to the fullest. I put a lot of days and wear and tear on these and have never had issues, the foam just got somewhat gross after 3 years of use and needed a replacement set. these are worth every penny, never get fogging easy to change lenses when needed and comfortable, compatible fit with smith helmets

    Always 1st to recommend!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I love these goggles, and always are the first goggle I personally recommend to customers looking for the best. Any of the Smith I/O series will fall into this category, the I/O X are just the largest lens out of them. Anti-fog is killer, I have never had a problem on the hill unless I don't take my goggles out of my case and dry them (my own fault!). The lens quality is also pretty awesome, and if you forget your low-light lens on a powder day, you will still be able to see the bumps in the snow with your high-light lenses. Pair with any Smith helmet for perfect compatibility. Lens changing system is very straightforward and once you get it down, it takes less than a minute to swap lenses.

    Always 1st to recommend!

    Upgraded from I/0 S to X

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have been a Smith Goggle user and fan for the past 7 years. I upgraded to the Smith I/O X (from the S) for the increased peripheral vision which makes a meaningful difference. As always the optics in Smith goggles are stellar and I have never once had fogging issues. Pair Smith goggles with a Smith Helmet (like the Variant which I have) and you are set.

    Too small for large heads

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

The review says fits "medium to large" but if you have a larger head these won't fit it. They have a pretty tight curve so are really uncomfortable to wear for any extended period of time. If I still had the box I'd return.

    Full Coverage

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I usually like small goggles and have ridden with IO's for a few years, however I just upgraded to the IOX and I am stoked! The field of view is fantastic and overall these are the most comfortable goggles I have worn in years.

Smith usually is pretty good in terms of not fogging and these perform even better than my IO's. I ride chairs a few times a year and spend the rest of the time touring. Touring can be brutal on goggles as they are constantly going in the pack or the jacket, lifted up on the beanie and subjected to a fogging up.

These held up excellent on a recent trip to Rogers Pass in damp conditions and several days in a hut. No fog and the Red Sol X was a great all around lens for the sporadic sun to grey conditions. Obviously these are better suited to a medium/large face, but for the average person they fit great. I was concerned about fit with my climbing helmet I use while touring, but no gaper gap. I am sold on the IO X.

    Great Goggles!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Love these goggles. The first couple times the lens change seemed a little rough but once you get the process dialed, it's easy. When changing remove lens from the top to the bottom and install from the bottom to the top. Super simple.

These have the great vision quality that you would expect from Smith. Love the large size for my larger face size. Plenty of peripheral vision.

Has anyone purchased or tried the Asian fit?
Does it solve the problem of our lack of a nose bridge or does it create new issues with air seal around the cheeks and eyes.
    Thanks

    Hey Mike

Although I have not tried the Asian fit, I'm an Asian and I purchased the normal fit one. It did not create any problems for me, and I feel that I have a typical Asian face. I don't think the lack of a nose-bridge was a big deal, and the seal around my cheeks and eyes were pretty good. Best goggles I've owned

    Hope this helps!

what are the best lense color to have clearest and brightest view? i have nike khyber transition goggle and i found it too dark and its yellow tint is too much for me. i wanna go back to smith goggles this time. what are your suggestions?

do thesse come w other lens's? and of so, are both polarized?

anyone know what helmet these goggles would fit best with? the smith maze or the holt?

How do these integrate with a k2 Rival Pro helmet. I really want/need a pair of these but I want to have them sit well with my helmet. Any info would be super helpful.

    Best Answer

    Jacob,

The Smith IOX will definitely work with their Seamless helmet integration designed to make the helmet and goggles streamlined as one piece and is compatible with your K2 Rival Pro helmet. A Smith Helmet may be the best fit for the goggle being that smith makes their products to fit their goggles, but you should be sittin' good and comfortable with these with the current helmet you've got.

Hello I'm 15 and have a pretty large head bigger than my 17 year old brother, would these be ok for me or should i go with the I/O.?

    Hey Mitchell,

I'd say you'd be good to go with either pair of Smith's that you'd choose. Sounds like your brother may have a smaller head than you do, which means you'll have a wider variety of choices for goggles and helmets.

Will these fit over the glasses? Smith's website says that it fit over the glasses while this website says its not eyeglasses compatible. Also I tried a pair of I/O at a store and it didn't quite fit with my glasses.

how do these goggles fit with a poc receptor bug helmet?

They will fit will most if not all modern helmets. If you are like some that wear the strap on inside of helmet instead of the outside then you're going to feel a little bit of pressure from the QuickFit strap in the back but it's not that big of deal provided your helmet is not small on your head to begin with. Other than that the goggles are compatible with POC helmets yes.

How do these fit with the smith maze helmet?

I've got the maze and I/OX and love that combo. There's no gaper gap and it fits the helmet perfectly. Only complaint is that the plastic connection on the goggle doesn't always fit best with the goggle clip. Other than that it is a perfect match. Any smith goggle and smith helmet setup will likely work great though.

Where is there a description of how the various IOX lens (colors) relate to light conditions when skiing. I find the older colors, but not the new ones on the web site Oct. 2012

G-Papa, you'll need to check out smith's site for the specs on lenses, here is the link. For some unholy reason they don't show any info for the Blackout lens but everything else is listed.
