Putting in the extra hours.

You only get one brain and, with Smith's Gage Helmet, you only need one piece of armor to protect it. The Gage is fully certified for both snow and bike use, so you can take it straight from powder days and park sessions in winter to singletrack trails in the summer.

No matter where you're rocking it, the Gage's Bombshell ABS shell and EPS foam liner will protect your dome from harsh impacts, and the self-adjusting Lifestyle Fit System gives it a snug, comfortable fit whether you're wearing it on its own or rocking a beanie underneath. Twelve Airflow vents keep your head from overheating, and the AirEvac 2 ventilation system is designed to work with Smith goggles to keep your goggles fog-free. You can slip compatible Skullcandy audio systems (sold separately) into the ear pads if you want to rock out while you ride, or pop the earpads off entirely for a cooler summertime feel. Either way, there's no excuse not to wear it.

Quality at an affordable price

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I bought this brain bucket with high expectations. Smith delivered on the quality from the packaging to the ear muffs and beyond. I typically use a Smith Vantage and wanted something more low tech.

I gave this helmet 3 stars mostly because when i had it next to my older Vantage I was actually disappointed from a few points. The size according to Smith is the same, but on my head this helmet feels noticeably smaller, it looks smaller, and its much tighter in the temples which started giving me a headache. I got a hair cut and i typically wear a full balaclava so there was no way this helmet was going to fit right, which is the most important part of a helmet. The fit system at the base of the neck on the back of the helmet also felt less supportive, and i wanted a better strap as well.

Overall i'm going to stick to my old Vantage until i can find something that fits right. Its possible that i just have a unique head shape and this helmet isn't made for me. If you want a more technical helmet that's about the same weight but with more features, check out the Smith Vantage, its a lot more expensive but with more then 4 seasons with it I can say its worth it.

Great Price!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This is a killer price on a great looking helmet! I've always been a fan of the lid and this gives you that nice clean look. The overall fit is true to size chart and the self adjusting lifestyle dial is super simple to use and get a nice comfortable feel. Combine this helmet with the Smith audio headphones which are super simple to install and get your roll on!

Great Bang for Your Buck

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This has been a great helmet so far! I have only used it once but it was in pretty cold conditions and I did not need any other gear for warmth. Super cozy! The fit is fairly snug so you could probably only manage a buff if you really feel like you need it, but it would have to be pretty darn cold! It was a balmy 6 degrees when I checked the temperature at the end of the night, but my noggin stayed toasty. I haven't had the test the durability of the helmet yet, so I can't provide much information there. Fingers crossed I won't have to. My only complaint is that the goggle hook seems a little flimsy.

Rip it up

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

These Smith helmets are great and they look sweet! I got this for a family member who rides in the northeast, they love it. The visor helps keep the cold air out while the helmet is designed to vent hot air up from the top vents. The helmet has removable ear pads and is beanie compatible if you like that style. The colors are sweet and the matte finish look so cool.

So far so good

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The fit on the Gage is great, fits similar to any other smith helmet. Is not too bulky like other cheaper helmets. If you are looking for something to protect your head on the resort this is the way to go.

light & tight

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

this helmet is beyond tight. Tight as in cool! Super light yet warm helmet. All of the colors are way dope, I chose to get the matte charcoal so it literally goes with everything. Pay attention to the size chart when ordering a helmet online.

Bomber and budget friendly

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Purchased this to replace the helmet I've been rocking for the past couple seasons that was definitely a bit small. When I measured to get my size I ended up right between a medium and a large. I chose to go with the large and ended up with the perfect size after some slight fit adjustments. Wasn't able to wear my beanie under it, but the padding kept my head and ears plenty warm.
Overall a solid helmet for $90

Good but not for me

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I wear goggles and a thin beanie under my helmet and with all the padding and liner material that just was not possible. Rather than forcing it to work and removing the liner I decided to return it. The fit was spot on from the sizing chart if I were to wear the helmet without anything under.

She Loves it.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

We recently had all of our gear stolen and the first thing my wife looked at replacing was this helmet. She likes the fit, nice and snug on her narrow and long head, and she is absolutely in love with the color (bright neon green). Luckily we haven't had to test its protective qualities just yet.

Not Exactly What I Wanted

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I don't usually wear a helmet when I snowboard (sorry mom). I wanted to try a helmet that would fit me nicely and look good. This helmet isn't quite exactly what I was looking for though. It's definitely quality and will keep my noggin' safe, but the fit isn't spot on to what I was needing.

Based on the sizing chart, I should be a medium with a tad more room. It fits my bare head okay, but if I wanted to wear a thin beanie or simply wear my goggles underneath, it doesn't fit. I'm hesitant to try a large because the medium does feel bulky on my head already. My overall feel of this helmet = "Meh"

Smith Gage Helmet

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is a very comfortable helmet. The fit was perfect for me as well. It does a great job of regulating temperature on my head, with the vents moving just the right amount of air. I also have the Smith I/O X goggles and they never fog,

Smith never disappoints!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Perfect weight and perfect fit. It does a great job of regulating temperature on my head, with the vents moving just the right amount of air. My only complaint about this helmet and it's very minor, is that the ear pieces pop out a little to easy. With everything else good about this helmet that is a minor problem. I've always been so impressed with Smith products and this is no exception.

Great fit!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Had this helmet for a few year and its been great! The removable ear pieces was a must for me, fits great without them. I had a harder time with other brands having too much room on the sides the adjustable strap on the back of the helmet really help me dialed in my fit. No more helmet bouncing around! Oh and not to mention at this price its a steal.

Great helmet, looks even cooler

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I purchased this helmet for my girlfriend and she love it. Its really warm. The best part about this helmet are the ears. Super warm and comfortable. Great for a girl looking for something stylish

Sweet helmet.

For the price I've found this helmet pretty hard to beat. It's got a cool look and the compatibility with the Smith goggles is awesome. I pretty much forget it's there throughout the day thanks to the comfort and always keeps me plenty warm.

Do the air vents close for cold days? Do they produce much wind noise and does it have any adjustable fit like the other smith helments? Thanks

    Hey Gary,

The Gage doesn't have open/closing vets. the liner on the inside has flaps that fold of the holes when you need more protections from the cold.

There is a fit systum on it but it is not like the other smith helmets. It only has slight adjustment.

The Gage is set up to me a helmet that you ware you goggles underneath. If you are looking for a helmet with a fit and venting system I would point you in the direction of the Vantage.
