    Mmm Cozy

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: XS
    • Height: 5'0"
    • Weight: 105lbs

Overall great wool baselayer. Can be a little itchy from time to time, but nothing that is severe enough to deter me from purchasing again. Great warmth for colder adventure days. Does get a bit smelly when sweating, but washes up nicely without any residual odor. I ordered an xs with an overall good fit, arms are a little snug, but this tends to be the case with climbing upper body development.

    Good quality

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: True to size

I liked this shirt a lot. It is thicker than what I'm used to with wool shirts which was nice to see. However, the color in real life is more purple than the picture shows. I was expecting a dark eggplant purple and the color that the shirt really is wasn't very flattering on me, so unfortunately I had to return it. However, if you like purple, this is a great shirt to have. It's a great fit and super comfortable and soft.

    Great and luxurious feeling

I normally wear Omni heat base layers for skiing in Utah, but I wanted to try merino wool, thinking it could be a bit warmer with the perks of breathability, but turns out is pretty much the same. I'll return the pants because I already have several omni heat. I'll keep the top just because it feels so luxurious.

    Very Useful!

I bought this as a present for my mom, and she is in love with it. She wears it as a base-layer while skiing, uses it as an outer-layer during the spring/fall while hiking. She claims it is durable and warm, while still being lightweight.

      MY GO-TO

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: Small
      • Height: 5'3"
      • Weight: 125lbs

I got this and am in love! I can wear it anywhere, its so versatile and SOFT (omg its soft!). I got the purple which is a gorgeous color and true to the picture, but I like that they have plenty of options. They have pattern ones too which look really cool under solid vests! :D

FIT: I ordered a small and was unsure as I am pretty busty, and I typically like to go with layers, so it would be to go over a tank and sports bra... but the fit was just right. If you want it to look like the picture, I would say go a size smaller than normal. If I went with an XS it would be more of a skin-tight fit I think. I like my clothes to be snug, and this is definitely form fitting, but the small on me was not too tight. It has a lot of soft moving room so you never feel "constricted" like you would in spandex or nylon, and its also very breathable.

QUALITY: The top is 100% Merino wool, which is from a certain breed of sheep that live in the high altitudes of NZ. Its super durable and works with the body to keep regulated temperatures. The design of the shirt too is great for backpacking because the shoulder seems are reinforced but aren’t on the top of the shoulder so it never digs into your skin. Its SUCH a relief! They literally thought of everything.

HOT OR COLD: It might seem counter-intuitive to wear Merino in the heat of the summer, but Merino wool is renowned for its ability to breathe and shed heat when the body is hot. Its able to sense differences in humidity between different environments — which in this case would be your skin, the fabric, and the air outside. Its fibers “breathe” by constantly absorbing and releasing moisture from one environment to another. If the outside environment is cold, the wool absorbs moisture in the air and releases its energy in the form of heat against your skin. The wool will also absorb the moisture from sweat from your skin and release it to a drier environment, creating a natural cooling effect. In addition to keeping you cool in the summer, Merino’s incredible warmth-to-weight ratio also makes it perfect for cold because it can trap and retain body heat. This is why I called it my “Go-To”. When Im backpacking we climb altitudes steadily and you go from hot to cold pretty quickly, so dressing is a task because the layers have to come on and off all the time. Its not easy, so I always try to stick to Merino wool to help with regulation.

PRICE: For the versatility and quality and design as mentioned above, I think this price is totally worth it. You really don’t get something this durable that you can wear all the time for any cheaper.

Its called “smart wool” for a reason! Its like wearing a smart layer that can do the work for you :D

      MY GO-TO

      Love it!

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: Medium
      • Height: 5'8"
      • Weight: 130lbs

I wear this top all the time. I wear it as a baselayer or as a cute sweater to wear out and about. It's very flattering. I'm 5'8" and 130. I purchased the medium and it fits great.

      I love this top!

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: Large
      • Height: 5'6"
      • Weight: 155lbs

The fit is awesome; the fabric feels nice and cozy; and it just looks great on! I did a test and wore it everyday either alone or over a tank and it didn't lose its shape or stink! Now that's what I'm talking about!!

      I Love This Top

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size

I have purchased 3 of these shirts. I use them as a base layer for winter hiking and both downhill and cross country skiing. It is very soft, and keeps me warm - but not sweaty by wicking any moisture away. I am 134 lb. and 5'8" and ordered a size Medium, which is perfect!

      Best baselayer for snowboarding!

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size

I ordered this top and the IceBreaker Bodyfit 260 ( to compare.

The smartwool was the winner hands down. The fabric was softer and the fit was better - longer in the torso to prevent it from hiking up while moving.

After wearing it snowboarding I'm even more in love. It kept me warm and wicked moisture away. For size reference I'm 5'3 and 135lb. The size S fit like a glove. My only minor gripe is that this shirt has no thumbholes.

      Comfy and warm

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
      • Fit: True to size

I got this to replace a heavyweight Icebreaker half-zip that I left somewhere along the Baja coast. While this isn't nearly as warm (it is a much finer, lighter garment) it is much more comfortable and great as a first layer. Even though it wasn't as heavy as I'd hoped, I love wearing it and am thrilled to have it! I ordered the large (I'm 5'11", 140 lbs) and the body and sleeves fit perfectly. I have long arms and it is unusual to find something that fits so well. I highly recommend this top. SmartWool is the bomb!

      Fantastic Garment

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size

This quarter-zip has become one of my new favorite layers for outdoor cold-weather activities like skiing and snowshoeing. It's comfortable, soft, not itchy at all. Really warm. The Lg. fits me just right (I'm 5'6", 145 lbs., and would normally order a size Med. top); the Med. fits my daughter just right (5'9", 145 lbs.) but was tighter than I would have wanted for myself. Washes well. Designed nicely enough that it would work fine for casual apres-ski wear too (i.e. doesn't look like long underwear).

      Love the fit

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
      • Fit: True to size

So far, so good! I am really diggin this smartwool midweight. It keeps me warm, and it fits me really really well. I was comparing it to the Patagonia Cap 3 midweight, and the smartwool fit my figure WAY better (the SW is a little slimmer and longer than the PAT). Can't wait to take this camping!

      Awesome sweater!

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This smart wool sweater just got its trial run in the middle of the Mt. Shasta Forest. It kept me warm and the merino wool so soft! -and comfortable. Easy to layer, easy to pack.

I have also been wearing it over my clothes during the day: the zipper top makes for a nice style.

      LOVE IT!

Used it on a warm ski day under a light jacket and it was not too hot, not too cool. I am waiting for 50 degree weather to give it a try on the road bike. I am 5'-3" and 120lbs, fits perfect. The color is a little off, more turquoise than blue, but it doesn't matter!

I am 5'4" and 130lb. A small was too small for me, especially because I think it would have shrunk in the wash. I opted to return the small for a medium, especially because I want a little extra room so that I can wear tshirts under it.

This is a wicked warm and soft shirt! Can't wait to get the right size and test it out.

        Favorite shirt

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've had this shirt for several years and it's still probably my favorite winter shirt. It is very versatile and I use it for nearly everything; skiing, hiking, lounging and casual day-wear. It is a great layering piece and provides a lot of warmth for it's size.

        Soft & Warm Midweight

This shirt is an amazing mid weight, unmatched by others out there. It is really warm and the moisture management is superb. Especially because of the half zip. Its nice and soft. I use this as my layering mid weight and solo. It is one of my favorite smartwool shirts.

          Nice first layer

Living in a climate that changes from cold to quite warm in the span of a ride or a skate, this is a great base layer. It keeps you warm but doesn't over heat, stays warm even when you're sweaty and you stop for a break in the cold.
