    Best base layer yet

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: small
    • Height: 5'3"
    • Weight: 125lbs

My girlfriend has taken up a lot more winter running and hiking this year and keeps trying out new clothing/gear to enhance her experience. I ordered this base layer shirt in hopes it would stop the madness! Seems this one was the ticket. She reports it keeps her warm, but still allows for wicking and sweating on the trail. It looks great on her, so I can't complain either.

    Absolute Best!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

Love this baselayer. Thin and breathable, yet super warm, and not at all itchy. Definitely a slim fit so size up if you want a bit of a looser fit. Super flattering!

    Must!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Xs
    • Height: 5'1"
    • Weight: 115lbs

It was a perfect fit I got xs it wasn’t too tight and with a thin jacket or vest it would be great for snow showing or a winter hike.

    Great baselayer

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size

Fit is good and she doesn't find the top to be itchy at all! This top is really soft. Very fitted, if you want a looser fit size up.

    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: xs
    • Height: 5'3"
    • Weight: 87lbs

I loved it so much ( I ordered first one then another for myself) this is 3rd one and a gift for a friend. She loves it also, the dark green is very nice and it goes with everything. So light yet so warm and I am always cold. They wash well and I've had other styles of this shirt for years and they are timeless and look like new after many years. The xs is perfect so true to size at least for me and did not shrink.

    In love

I instantly fell in love with this shirt. I ordered them in two colors, and I am planning to purchase more really soon. These are incredibly soft and they look great. I am about 104 lbs with a bigger chest (C/D) and an XS really fits perfectly without being too tight at all. I needed some winter layers since I have never spent a winter outside of Los Angeles county and I am so happy I made this purchase, despite the price. Definitely worth spending the money on a few, great quality wardrobe pieces. So far I've only worn them casually, but I think they will be great for hiking/backpacking year round.

    Soft and Great Performance Baselayer!

I just got this and love it! It's my go to baselayer now. Its so soft. And since it's SmartWool you know it is high quality. If you don't know the benefits of merino wool, you will truly be blown away by this shirt! It keeps you warm even when it's damp or wet, but breathes super well if you are getting hot. I don't go on any excursion without it and frequently wear it to work!

      Mmm Cozy

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

      • Size Bought: XS

      • Weight: 105lbs

Overall great wool baselayer. Can be a little itchy from time to time, but nothing that is severe enough to deter me from purchasing again. Great warmth for colder adventure days. Does get a bit smelly when sweating, but washes up nicely without any residual odor. I ordered an xs with an overall good fit, arms are a little snug, but this tends to be the case with climbing upper body development.

      Good quality

      • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
      • Fit: True to size
      • Height: 5'10"
      • Weight: 120lbs

I liked this shirt a lot. It is thicker than what I'm used to with wool shirts which was nice to see. However, the color in real life is more purple than the picture shows. I was expecting a dark eggplant purple and the color that the shirt really is wasn't very flattering on me, so unfortunately I had to return it. However, if you like purple, this is a great shirt to have. It's a great fit and super comfortable and soft.

      Great and luxurious feeling

I normally wear Omni heat base layers for skiing in Utah, but I wanted to try merino wool, thinking it could be a bit warmer with the perks of breathability, but turns out is pretty much the same. I'll return the pants because I already have several omni heat. I'll keep the top just because it feels so luxurious.

      Very Useful!

I bought this as a present for my mom, and she is in love with it. She wears it as a base-layer while skiing, uses it as an outer-layer during the spring/fall while hiking. She claims it is durable and warm, while still being lightweight.

        MY GO-TO

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times
        • Fit: True to size
        • Size Bought: Small
        • Height: 5'3"
        • Weight: 125lbs

I got this and am in love! I can wear it anywhere, its so versatile and SOFT (omg its soft!). I got the purple which is a gorgeous color and true to the picture, but I like that they have plenty of options. They have pattern ones too which look really cool under solid vests! :D

FIT: I ordered a small and was unsure as I am pretty busty, and I typically like to go with layers, so it would be to go over a tank and sports bra... but the fit was just right. If you want it to look like the picture, I would say go a size smaller than normal. If I went with an XS it would be more of a skin-tight fit I think. I like my clothes to be snug, and this is definitely form fitting, but the small on me was not too tight. It has a lot of soft moving room so you never feel "constricted" like you would in spandex or nylon, and its also very breathable.

QUALITY: The top is 100% Merino wool, which is from a certain breed of sheep that live in the high altitudes of NZ. Its super durable and works with the body to keep regulated temperatures. The design of the shirt too is great for backpacking because the shoulder seems are reinforced but aren’t on the top of the shoulder so it never digs into your skin. Its SUCH a relief! They literally thought of everything.

HOT OR COLD: It might seem counter-intuitive to wear Merino in the heat of the summer, but Merino wool is renowned for its ability to breathe and shed heat when the body is hot. Its able to sense differences in humidity between different environments — which in this case would be your skin, the fabric, and the air outside. Its fibers “breathe” by constantly absorbing and releasing moisture from one environment to another. If the outside environment is cold, the wool absorbs moisture in the air and releases its energy in the form of heat against your skin. The wool will also absorb the moisture from sweat from your skin and release it to a drier environment, creating a natural cooling effect. In addition to keeping you cool in the summer, Merino’s incredible warmth-to-weight ratio also makes it perfect for cold because it can trap and retain body heat. This is why I called it my “Go-To”. When Im backpacking we climb altitudes steadily and you go from hot to cold pretty quickly, so dressing is a task because the layers have to come on and off all the time. Its not easy, so I always try to stick to Merino wool to help with regulation.

PRICE: For the versatility and quality and design as mentioned above, I think this price is totally worth it. You really don’t get something this durable that you can wear all the time for any cheaper.

Its called “smart wool” for a reason! Its like wearing a smart layer that can do the work for you :D

        MY GO-TO

        Love it!

        • Fit: True to size
        • Size Bought: Medium
        • Height: 5'8"
        • Weight: 130lbs

I wear this top all the time. I wear it as a baselayer or as a cute sweater to wear out and about. It's very flattering. I'm 5'8" and 130. I purchased the medium and it fits great.

        I love this top!

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
        • Fit: True to size
        • Size Bought: Large
        • Height: 5'6"
        • Weight: 155lbs

The fit is awesome; the fabric feels nice and cozy; and it just looks great on! I did a test and wore it everyday either alone or over a tank and it didn't lose its shape or stink! Now that's what I'm talking about!!

        I Love This Top

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
        • Fit: True to size

I have purchased 3 of these shirts. I use them as a base layer for winter hiking and both downhill and cross country skiing. It is very soft, and keeps me warm - but not sweaty by wicking any moisture away. I am 134 lb. and 5'8" and ordered a size Medium, which is perfect!

        Best baselayer for snowboarding!

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times
        • Fit: True to size

I ordered this top and the IceBreaker Bodyfit 260 (http://www.backcountry.com/icebreaker-bodyfit260-tech-top-womens) to compare.

The smartwool was the winner hands down. The fabric was softer and the fit was better - longer in the torso to prevent it from hiking up while moving.

After wearing it snowboarding I'm even more in love. It kept me warm and wicked moisture away. For size reference I'm 5'3 and 135lb. The size S fit like a glove. My only minor gripe is that this shirt has no thumbholes.
