    Stay comfortable in the chill.

If you do lots of running in chilly temperatures or just need a midweight baselayer for tearing up the slopes, the Smartwool Merino 250 Pattern 1/4-Zip Baselayer is a winner. Made of 100% merino wool, which is renowned for it's temperature-regulating, odor-controlling, and moisture-transferring capabilities, the Mid 250 has a 1/4-length zip to help you warm up or cool down. It also sports flatlock seams for chafe-free comfort.

    Good Product Just Tight

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'9"
    • Weight: 174lbs

I like Smartwool and have a couple other items so when I went to replace my baselayer bought the 250 in Medium. I wear just about everything in Med and fits me for the most part. I’m 5’8”-9” about 174. I have athletic build with a little insulation and broad shoulders - this thing is SNUG. Tight on the chest and stomach but super long. Great material just weird fit. No way I could wear this outside of snowboarding

    Better than ever

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I just picked up this top and the matching bottoms to replace a Smartwool 250 weight set that I've been using for about 8 years now. That set was the no-brainer, put it on every time I go skiing, second skin for what has to be 300 days of skiing or more. This new set has already seen 5 ski days this year and feels just as good, with a few nice improvements even. Same soft feel, warm but not too hot, easy movement, and great fit. The seams are more low profile and have been moved away from where pack straps hit the shoulders. The zipper is higher quality with a better pull-tab. Glad to see Smartwool is still doing it well. These are pure wool pieces so store appropriately to keep the bugs away.

    Like it a lot

I purchased this item on size small; I am 5'6" tall and weight of 143 pounds. I used it the entire last weekend with nothing else on top of it at around 48 degrees Fahrenheit; I was not super warm but I was not too cold either. Nice contoured shape; not too tight or loose. I recommend it.

Wanted to love it...I hate it

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 6'0"
    • Weight: 200lbs

I wanted so bad for this piece to rock...mine doesn't. I'm 6'0 200 pounds and I tend to fill shirts out very easily. When I first tried this piece in large it seemed to fit great, generally "next to skin" in all areas and looks as advertised in the picture. After a couple uses it started to stretch out, and never returned to form. It's now extremely baggy and in my opinion retains way to much weight when wet. After barely using this POS I'm now shopping for another baselayer. My branded 195 layer that costs me 25 bucks on sale is far superior to this overpriced junk. Would be great if NTS actually meant next to skin. What a waste of money.

    i've bought about 3 more

    Smartwool lives up to claims

Out of curiosity and in an effort to test the technology, I have worn my mid-weight 1/4 zip top for 20+ ski days dating back to January 2 WITHOUT washing. After skiing, I simply hung it on a hanger on my closet door to let it air and dry. I wanted to see how many times I could wear it before it became smelly. I am happy to report--it still smells fine (I did wear antiperspirant/deodorant each ski day), and it is still very comfortable to wear. It got a little salty while skiing in Spring-like temps at Snowbird in early March, but it smells fine and feels soft. Love my Smartwool.

      SmartWool as usual - awesome!

I have found SW tops/bottoms to breath and wick moisture very well - better than Icebreaker, so I will prob not purchase anymore IB and stick with SW. Sleeves on this shirt were a little long for me, but no big deal. Super soft and comfy, great weight/warmth as a base layer with no mid layer under my soft shell jacket hiking in 35-55F temps!

      Super Cozy

I have both the top and bottom and they are the go to for any cold weather activity. They fit like a dream, pull away the sweat before I feel it and fit seamlessly below my other layers. The top is a bit long, but it tucks nicely below my ski pants so I don't get any draft. I saw another review where someone had had a problem after washing their shirt. I use sport wash and air dry all my outdoor gear flat and I've never had a problem.

      Not good

It's good only when new. After washing and drying looks like a bag. It lost all shape. Money wasted. It also shrunk and now it a waste.

It's second smart wool product that sucks bad.

I recently purchased this for my father for his birthday and immediately had several more requested. He wore it hiking every day for a week and still didn't have anyone not sit next to him in the car. He was warm in the cold mornings when we set off, but stayed dry when the going got tougher.
