Love these
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
- Fit:
- True to size
I love smartwool shirts. The long sleeve is great for for cold days, cold weather. Easy to layer and great alone. I like them as a base layer but they are just as good alone. Easy to care for too and long lasting so worth the price.

Midweight perfect for May Denali biking
This was a windy yet fairly warm overcast day, but this layer was perfect in the afternoon for a mountain bike through the park!

Are these shirts itchy? I usually stay away from wool as a base layer because I can't stand the itchy feel of wool on my skin. But someone said these shirts are different. Any feedback?

Nope! Not at all Onep! The Merino ram is a different breed than that which you think of when you imagine an old itchy sweater from days of yore. The fiber is a LOT smoother (on a microscopic level) which results in better comfort and less irritation. Google Merino wool and take a look! One HUGE hint: DONT put this stuff in the dryer. Let it air dry to avoid any shrinkage and prolong the life of the fabric. Because it is a natural fiber rather than a synthetic fiber they tend to break down faster than artificially created fibers. Thus it's best to air dry to get the most life out of your garment. Hope this helps! If you have any further questions don't hesitate to chat or call in and speak with one of our Gearheads.

What size should I get if I wear a size...
What size should I get if I wear a size small in American sizes?

Emily, If you are used to wearing a small in most American brands I would suggest staying with a small in the SmartWool Midweight Crew. It will fit trim, but baselayers are intended to fit close to the body. If you would like to use this as a midlayer or prefer a slightly looser fit then you may be happier in a medium.

Steve, I am a similar build and height and have trouble finding shirts that fit nicely. I think Medium would be a great size—these shirts aren't super generous in length, but fair for a Regular (versus Tall) size. I would suggest hand washing and definitely hang dry as they shrink a bit in the torso and arms.
